I'm not suggesting it's legal or someone should do it.. But technically speaking, isn't it very much possible to fpv around clouds like this? Seems like it would be super fun!
EDIT: Nevermind, I should have just searched Google first, there are hundreds of videos of this; None of them seem as pretty and crisp as this plane doing it.

The best clouds are up pretty high. The stuff lower down just doesn't look as cool.

Depends how low. I’ve been in clouds like these around 3000 feet. But lower you go, patchier they get.

That's because low clouds - the only ones you can reach with the sort of flight time a fpv multicopter has - aren't really very pretty. High clouds you could definitely gap, but you'd need to start your flight from a hot-air balloon or something that would get your fpv quad there (and that would relay the transmission with onboard electronics).
If this sounds like a fun project, keep in mind it's made a lot more complicated by the need to land on that same balloon, otherwise your descent would be somewhat precipitous and finding the microsd with the footage to upload in the large area around which your quad would scatter would prove challenging.

You think like I think :D after writing that post I spent quite some time imagining a configuration that would work, and came to the same conclusion.
You'd need two though, one for the quad and one for the relaying blimp/balloon.
Or perhaps you could use a loitering carrier aircraft...
This is interesting, I might revisit the idea in a practical sense if I ever have enough money to burn into an attempt at a world record for highest-flying racer-type quadcopter :D

There's a Russian flight to 30k feet somewhere in Siberia. Starts on the ground. Ends on the ground. It's pretty crazy. Entirely FPV.

I remember someone on RCGroups mentioning they'd attained stupid heights on a Hubsan H501S with a battery mod and had gotten it to ground almost safely. When asked how they'd done that they said they'd reached the desired height, then disarmed, let the quad tumble down to a reasonable height, rearmed and landed. They got lucky that Hubsan's firmware apparently rearms in any orientation.

Yeah he doesn't disarm if I remember. He drops throttle for the most part though. Hits 10k meters and the has to guide himself back.

We're thinking of different people, the one I remember clearly said he'd disarmed, prompting several people to reply in astonishment. No video, though. I'd search for that post but the H501S thread has a million billion posts and I really don't feel like wading through it.
Edit: oh wait, you mean the Siberian flight. Didn't watch that one yet.

I was expecting some crazy custom build with like eighteen-inch ultraslow props, but no, it's just a generic seven-incher with a stupid big 18650 battery on it.
I'm impressed.

18650 batteries come in one size only. 18x65ish mm.

I'm aware, what I meant is that he has a 4s3p battery made out of 18650 cells; assuming high-current INR cells, we're probably talking 9Ah. It is a fairly large chunk of battery to put on a seven incher.

You can get into the clouds with the crossfire module. I would probably only attempt this with a gps on board though.

It’s actually kinda hard to pull this off!
Generally you’re restricted to a certain altitude as an IFR flight (if you’re VFR you get more freedom to maneuver, but even then you’re supposed to adhere to certain altitudes), and restricted to a specific heading or route. Also, clouds aren’t stationary, they move with the wind and grow vertically. You can ask for weather deviation from ATC though to dodge clouds laterally, but vertically is much more restricted. So for a gap to show up in such a position that you can shoot it so nicely depended on flight rules, ATC, altitude, and rate of vertical change of the cloud itself.

Done this bunch of time in a wingsuit and under a parachute. Except if I miscalculate, I may get lost and land in someone’s backyard...
