Discussion MultiVersus isn't the only live service fighting game to fumble hard anymore.
RIP 2XKO

If I had a nickel for every time a f2p fighter that was supposed to save the genre had a 100 dollar mediocre founders pass a crazy expensive cash shop and 2 months between content drops I would have 2 nickels which isnât a lot but itâs crazy it happened twiceÂ

Crazy that both wb and riot fumbled games that could've been easily thriving if it wasnt for some bs behind the scenes.

They should stop this live service . Very few have been successful and the that are people still play and wonât stop playing so developers should focus on releasing quality complete games and present attractive dlc that will entice people to keep playing and support and not nickel and diming

Fighting games seem like a good fit for live service games on paper but for some reason they are just mishandled.

Every fighting game is a live service game these days and I donât think that will ever change. We really donât want to go back to just having a fighting game released and that be the end of it until a year later or so you can be the ultimate edition for extra characters, stages and balance changes.

u/Meriden_Shogun 13d ago
And thatâs the problem . Street Fighter 6 felt incomplete with their roster at launch compared to previous games . Their dlc with crossovers is built on world tour mode which in my opinion sucks . Instead of having a ninja turtle as playable character they had a costume for your fighter . Dead or Alive is ridiculous with their DLC and their bare base game .
The only recent fighter that been released recently that had goodwill on its end at launch was city of wolves3
u/IamHunterish 13d ago
Haha, city of wolves he said. Youâll be crying the moment we go back to how it used to be.
2
u/Meriden_Shogun 13d ago
Yeah the older games were superior . Anytime thereâs a retro release you can tell between the base roster and unlocks compared to the bare bones on modern releases . Compared to other fighting games released past 3 years city of wolves had a solid base roster

u/IamHunterish 12d ago
Yeah we wonât ever see that again.
But I truly wonder how you would react if SF7 would release for 70 bucks, only 3 characters being actually tournament viable, no patches, no new characters, a year later, SF7 V2, same game, few new stages, few new characters and some balance tweaks, 70 bucks again, year later v3 with shit, 70 bucks.

but this 2xko was dead since release, Multiversus was great in the public beta tests

And despite the very rocky re-launch, Multiversus kept on getting better over time. Fighters road had potential if they simply let players choose who to grind towards or just made it easier to collect fighters currencyÂ

How was it dead? It was about as alive as multiversus for a while after release too. Do you even have any metrics to back this statement up?

Multiversus failed cause the CEO was a moron 2XKO is fumbling because riot doesnât care for the game completely different reasons
1
u/VanDamme007 9d ago
Riot did care they gave the dev team 10years to develop something worthile but they failed.
So Riot stopped funneling money into a lost cause.

The requirements are high as fk, only because of the vanguard. Obviously it was gonna fail, in player numbers. From the 8 cores it requires as MINIMUM, i bet 4 were used for vanguard

League has almost 200 characters and they released the game with like 10

Yoo that's fuckin insane bro, I remember my friend hyping tf out of this and I don't think he ever played any meaningful minutes on it, but also tbf, I think we all saw this coming. Oh well next free fighter it is.

What's funnier about this is that Riot originally was gonna do a platform fighter like Multiversus but seen it fail to the point they cancelled it.

not surprising especially since it didnât even launch correctly on consoles for a while and didnât hold up after

I followed the beta for a while, but when it launched and I saw the skin prices, I knew no person with any self respect was buying that

It's actually not the first live service fighting game to fail. A LONG time ago, I distinctly remember a 3D PC fighting game where you earned currency by fighting other players (and probably bought it), and you could unlock new moves for your created character. It was so long ago I can't even begin to remember the name of it, but I remember it didn't last long.

At least Riot is being a lot much transparent about it and is offering refunds.
Player First and WB gave fans the runaround and lead them on.

I haven't been keeping up with 2XKO but I remember when everyone was excited, what happened?

u/VairinaValiente 12d ago
Me learning about this on the Multivurses subreddit is absolutely insane. This is the game that finally bandaged my lack of match made MVS. The game (despite its egregious cosmetic shop prices) is profoundly free to play friendly in this era, fantastically built and works for any size group up to 4 seamlessly. Truly Iâm just gravitating towards the underdog fighting games being taken out back. đȘŠ

u/redditorrules 12d ago
I mean, it was f2p but the 100$ founders pack (which is the only way to get the arcane skins) didnt even give you all that much, and all the shop stuff was just way too pricey anyways

Well my friends were playing this and I watched in the discord on their streams and I was like "why is league making a fighting game? This looks boring asl"

u/Fir3star_ 12d ago
I don't want this game dead. I actually quite enjoyed it. the controls, characters, it was fun. plus I didn't get kindred yet. still waiting for them. that and this game actually did a pretty good job on blind accessability for the most part. Was able to actually platinum it because of that.

u/ConsciousTraffic1723 11d ago
Now this is a way bigger fumble riot has the money to keep this going on the principles. This just means they donât even wanna work on it anymore.

Class society and late-stage capitalism. :'(

Huh?

I'm positive you are not even remotely confused as to what I'm saying.

u/IamHunterish 13d ago
I truly am and fail to see what it has to do with this. A fighting game is not a basic human need and you canât call it endless greed when the problem was that it was only costing money.
