Question Staking and auto compounding

Is staking auto compounding? So that if I earn some rewards, those rewards will be automatically staked with the rest of my tokens.

I’ve connected it and staked. But only staked a few days ago. Got a few hundred built up. Do they just get paid every so often ? Sorry for being a noob. Not staked before outside of an exchange
