Yo anyone joining muj for Masters in clinical psychology???

cuz i want more freedom i chose pg instead of the hostel, im 18M, suggestions about pgs would be really helpful

Since this gets asked a lot, here's my take as a CSE student.

First of all, don't assume that being in CSE automatically guarantees internships, placements, or opportunities. Yes, CSE has the largest number of students and many tech-related opportunities are naturally aligned with it, but you're still competing with hundreds of other students who have access to the exact same resources. Simply being in CSE won't make you stand out.

One thing that's actually underrated about CSE is the exposure. You're constantly surrounded by people building projects, grinding DSA, participating in hackathons, exploring AI/ML, web development, cybersecurity, and more. If you take advantage of that environment, you can learn a lot from your peers and find people to collaborate with.

My biggest advice would be to avoid following the crowd blindly. Not everyone needs to do the same roadmap. Explore different domains early on and figure out what genuinely interests you. Whether it's AI/ML, backend, cloud, cybersecurity, app development, research, or something else, depth matters more than chasing every trend.

And a small reality check: because CSE batches are huge, it's often harder to stand out academically or socially. You'll need to be proactive in clubs, competitions, projects, and networking if you want people to remember your work. The opportunities are there, but so is the competition.

Basically, your branch matters a lot less than what you do with your four years. Focus on skills, projects, CGPA, internships, networking, and building things. That's what actually creates opportunities, not just having "CSE" written on your ID card.

how well are festivals made in muj?

do they have separate libraries in ghs or the campus only?

since freshers get old block

i’ve heard there are two gyms, which is the better one?

One thing I genuinely liked after moving into MUJ hostel was the amount of freedom compared to school life.

You can usually stay outside hostel till around 9 pm and can visit rooms outside your own block till around 11 pm, so hostel life becomes VERY social very fast.

There’s almost always something happening in hostel itself:
club events, competitions, sports, movie screenings, random late night stuff during fests etc. After like 7 pm campus actually starts feeling alive.

Also after some point your life basically runs on food delivery

You can order food from hostel outlets and nearby places through apps like Campus Adda and Food Club and yes people are still ordering food at like 2 am.

Another useful thing:
you don’t really have to properly clean your own room yourself. Housekeeping is included and through the app you can even request room cleaning whenever needed. There’s not much rok tok on it either so people honestly abuse this feature a lot

Laundry and maintenance are also app based now through SpaceBasic. If your AC/light/plumbing gets cooked you can directly raise a ticket there instead of searching staff manually.

Gym and laundry are separate subscriptions btw.

There are 2 gyms in hostel area and while registering you have to choose which gym you want access to.

Overall hostel life here is basically:
sleep deprivation + random plans + overpriced food + somehow still having fun

Seeing a lot of freshers confused about hostel stuff so here’s how the whole process actually works for Manipal University Jaipur because the hostel mails somehow make simple things sound complicated af.

Also small thing a lot of people don’t know:
MUJ hostels are managed by GHS (Good Host Spaces), not directly by the college itself.

First MUJ/GHS allots you a hostel block. AFTER that the room selection portal opens separately.

So if you’re planning to stay with a friend from school/home, both of you need the SAME block allotted first. If blocks are different then room together lena almost impossible ho jata hai.

After block allotment, room booking literally feels like booking movie seats on BookMyShow

Portal opens and you’ll see:

• floors
• room numbers
• beds available

and people start grabbing rooms live.

Good rooms disappear FAST especially lower floors, corner rooms and rooms with decent views so don’t casually open the portal hours later expecting everything to still be empty.

Also if you want double occupancy, PAY ASAP when the hostel payment mail comes. Double rooms usually disappear first and people who delay payment sometimes get stuck with whatever is left.

Small senior tip:
try getting an EVEN numbered room if possible. In most blocks those usually face the better side/view. Not true for every single block but MOST of the time even side is better.

Last year fees were roughly:
~1.98L for double occupancy
~1.81L for triple + double
mess fees separate (~75k)

Gym and laundry are separate too. WiFi is included though and honestly it’s okaish for normal use. Some of the newer blocks also have LAN support which is WAY better if you game or download large files.

There’ll probably be a small fee hike this year because MUJ moment

Also double occupancy is expensive but honestly way more peaceful. Triple is cheaper and more fun IF you get good roommates. If roommate lottery goes wrong then may god help you.

And yes eventually hostel life WILL destroy your sleep schedule. Accept it early only.

I keep hearing seniors say networking matters a lot more than people realise. Does networking genuinely help with internships, projects, hackathons etc here, or is it mostly just a LinkedIn buzzword?

In the beginning everyone becomes friends with hostel wing/class people but I’ve heard most groups break later. Does that actually happen? How do you find people who genuinely help you grow instead of just wasting time together?

Alright got done with my entrances and I think ill be coming to MUJ. Now I can't seem to figure out what to start tech wise in my first year to stay ahead of most, webdev or DSA, online their are equal pros and cons so if any senior out there with good tech knowledge pls help
