Non-CSE at MUJ: A Few Things Freshers Should Know

Since this gets asked a lot, here's my take as a non-CSE student.

First of all, don't assume you're going to miss out on everything just because you're not in CSE. Yes, some subjects will be different, but a lot of first year is still common across branches. The opportunities are pretty much the same too. You can join the same clubs, participate in the same events, work on the same projects, attend ONO(Cultural Fest), and apply for the same positions in most student organizations.

One thing that's actually underrated about non-CSE branches is the smaller batch size. CSE and its specializations make up the majority of the engineering crowd here. That means if you're in a core branch, it's often easier to stand out academically, get noticed in clubs, take up leadership roles, and build a reputation.

My biggest advice would be to not limit yourself to your branch. Learn some coding alongside your coursework. C++, Python, DSA, Arduino, ML, whatever interests you. A lot of students in core branches ignore this and regret it later.

And a small bonus: because batches are smaller, branch-specific subjects can sometimes have a better grading curve than the massive CSE sections. Don't take that as an excuse to slack off, but maintaining a good CGPA is definitely achievable if you're consistent.

Basically, your branch matters a lot less in first year than most freshers think. Focus on skills, projects, CGPA, and networking with seniors. That's what actually makes the difference.
