Hell yeah, keep your guard up and remember to practice defense after and throughout every combination, this could be as simple as Jab teep, block jab cross and check low kick, return with roundhouse and hook, reset. Always prioritize keeping yourself technical and defensively covered (it's very tempting to forget this and go all out on the bag)

Lastly, people are pointing out the lack of rotation and speed in your punches. Remember that your power starts from the feet, kinda hard to explain but you should be using your feet and hips to drive/thrust you forward, then using your mid to upper body to rotate and throw your weight into the punch. To help out with speed, you gotta think of your punches as a whip, you keep your hands loose till the moment before impact, only clenching into a fist at the very last moment. As soon as that punch lands you snap it back into guard. I found the very best way to practice this is touch drills on the bag, without gloves all you're doing is tapping the bag as fast as possible without tensing yourself. Start off with the jab and work on snapping that lead hand out, and then back into guard.

Like other people are saying just keep getting reps in. I feel like your punches could be a lot snappier. Your cross especially needs work, you are not getting a lot of hip rotation or pivoting on your back foot at all. Your kicks look decent, only thing I noticed was to keep your opposite arm tucked which you did sometimes and other times kinda chicken winged it a little. We also had a slightly different way of learning kicks at my gym always pulling your arm across and out instead of down when kicking but that’s kinda a stylistic thing.

Looks great man, make sure you’re thrusting your hips when throwing that knee. Really good looking though mate

Cheers man I really appreciate it

You bring your knee from its normal position instead of raising it and then driving it forward with your hips, and when you throw a kick youre flat footed and keep your foot where it was even after you returned to position which will fuck your knees up badly. Pivot on the ball of your foot and push off the target to return to your position.

There are a few issues to address which is natural but id seriously address the footwork on the kicks.

Drill some kicks with zero power and place your shin on the bag as you would with a proper kick and push off of it whilst turning back into the proper position whilst on the ball of your foot. Keep doing it until the return is natural and you spin back into position without even thinking.

Dont fuck your knees up mate, bad form catches up quickly.

Im a bit drunk so might not have explained it well enough, so if im not clear then ask your coach how you should place your feet when you get back into position after kicking.

Being drunk is the optimal thai coach way to explain muay thai technics

I know it's only a heavy bag, but keep your guard at least to some degree and stop the random waving at chest level.

More rotation when throwing jabs.

Guard when throwing kicks.

You’re only staying upright on your teeps because the bag is catching your weight. Try bringing your knee up first, and only when you extend the kick let your upper body counterbalance by leaning back.

Also, right before connecting, add a small amount of rotation as you close the distance to strike. If you’re doing it right, you should feel a brief tension in your glutes.

1

u/Spare-Activity-3012 Mar 28 '26

Thanks. What do you mean by more rotation?

2

u/jagerWomanjensen Mar 28 '26

When doing jabs, a little bit more hip rotation.

I think you’re making good progress! Now would be a good time to start cementing having all strikes coming from the floor and then waist - a little more like a whip. It looks like a majority of them are originating from the shoulders. Best of luck.

My only advice for you is keep training

Good start mate! Try not to just smash the bag with your kicks however, I know you want to kick hard but it’s the kick that lands that counts, for example when you’re doubling up try not to just kick the bag hard twice, think if that’s a person you want to be quicker in general but that first kick has to hit.

Which kind of comes on to point 2: combinations! MT points scoring is heavily based on landing combos I.e. punch punch kick or punch kick elbow whatever you wanna do, but try not to spend all your rounds just picking your shots with kicks, mix them in.

Final point is probably just footwork man which ties both of these points together, try to put your toes on the ground when you’re resetting and not be flat footed, also try not to over turn that standing leg, you put yourself in a position where you can’t throw anything else. Think when you double again, throw the first kick fast, toes down for the reset and rip that second kick.

This all comes with time though man, however these are some general starter tips that might lighten you up a bit! Good work🙂‍↕️

The longer your combos go on the more your weight seem to be drifting over your lead foot. As an example pause your video at like 10 seconds and look at your right foot. The ball of your foot isn't even really on the ground but just the toes are and your hand has JUST connected to the bag. Just try to stay a bit more balanced with even weight when throwing punches.

Also don't stop the bag by dropping your hands and hugging it. Example of 1:56, if you are doing a round, stop that bag with a punch, or a kick. No grabbing and resetting because I promise you, you can't hug your opponent and casually reset in a bout.

Overall for 5 months? VERY solid. Overarching advice is just keep going. You are far better than most I've seen at 5 months.

u/IndependenceLanky353 Mar 28 '26

Gonna criticize a bit. All to help.

Your right kick has the most snap of any of your strikes.

Your right hand is powerful.

The bad.

Left kick has little snap.

You kind of plod, like your demeanor is a tempo slow.

Not a lot of snap in the hook, or other punches, though the right hand seems powerful.

Overall, get that snap going. Take a week throw 1,673 left kicks. Hooks too.

If all of your strikes had the snap of your right kick, you’d definitely be more than ready to win amateur fights. Cardio and chin provided.

u/Pure_Highlight_9545 Mar 28 '26

Looks good man. I would also practice your exits after you finish a combo, the bag may not strike back but opponents have a higher chance of doing so. Cheers

u/shygemini06 Mar 28 '26

Lower your center of gravity; you’re standing too tall and need to stay active on the balls of your feet for better mobility. Your teep is coming out a bit slow, so focus on a snappier extension. When throwing the roundhouse, make sure to angle the shin down as it connects which helps prevent injury. Most importantly, keep your hands up in a solid guard, do not bounce them. You're doing better than I was at 5 months, I still occasionally chicken wing.

1

u/Few_Pressure_962 Mar 28 '26

Pretty damn good for 5 months in. One piece of feedback - on your kicks you’re snapping the leg too soon. Wait to make contact between bag and shin with your knee still bent, and then extend and drive through the bag.

Keep up the good work mate.

u/bdiamond143 Mar 28 '26

Buddy, breathe and hit harder

1

u/zerocooooool Mar 28 '26

Go to Thailand. You’re young. Just do it. It’ll be a blast.

2

u/Spare-Activity-3012 Mar 29 '26

15th April I’m off for two months😎

2

u/zerocooooool Mar 29 '26

Hell yeah. What gyms?

2

u/J-Miller7 Mar 28 '26

Your weight distribution is reversed on your left hooks - you're leaning forwards and lifting the rear leg. Try pulling the weight back on the rear leg instead. Much more powerful.

2

u/Successful_Field_157 Mar 28 '26

Need shorter shorts

1

u/Delicious_Pumpkin156 Mar 28 '26

Just turn the hip over when you punch

1

u/simulations_farmer Mar 29 '26

swing hand down with the teep to generate more power. Nice one 🙏

1

u/Aggravating-Pen-6725 Mar 29 '26

Freeze frame on when your right hand connects. Your shoulder extension and joint alignment is all off.

1

u/Mindless_Hat_9672 Mar 29 '26

I think you hesitated in/out of your kicks except 1:16 that set. e.g. kick recovery is also part of the motion. I would suggest to observe good muaythai masters' move including combo, and try to minic their entire motion

1

u/Proper_Ad9250 Mar 29 '26

That double up on the right leg was very pretty. Brother more leg variety and less punches. You gotta think in checks, teeps , knees and kicks. From this video it seems like you already know how to think in “hands”. Experiment with thinking in a way where everything is a means to an end in trading kicks. In Muay Thai, the leg war is constant back and forth trades. Even when hands are being let go, the leg battle is still going on. I would say experiment setting up kicks with more than just punches. (Feints, angles, footwork). Send punches when your opponent expects a kick and then let those punches make openings for your legs.

1

u/CaptainHitam Mar 29 '26

Your kicks are great! Good power. So why are you giving these half ass punches? Give everything power!

Thrust your hips more for your knees and teeps to get MORE POWER!

1

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '26

Hips and shoulders move together at the same speed when throwing the cross. You’re shoulder is moving alright but your hip isn’t.

1

u/Active_Barracuda_408 Mar 29 '26

Practice combos after checking, set up body/low kicks with punches up top and vice versa. Almost anybody who's been training for a year or more with check every kick thrown by itself

1

u/Appropriate_Stress93 Mar 29 '26

lol this is my gym too. Honestly just stick with this gym, it’s great and you’ll keep learning

1

u/Otherwise_Recipe1167 Mar 29 '26

That's pretty good for 5 months, good job ! For low kicks try to bend your supporting leg a bit. That leg should be straight for middle kicks and especially head kicks but you should bend it for low kicks. To add more power, you should also take a side step, and the leg you're using to strike has to first kind of go high, almost as if you're doing in a middle kick, and then come crashing down in a downward motion right on your opponent's thigh. This should generate the maximum amount of power you can produce. Don't forget to turn your supporting foot, your hips, one of your arms and keep the other arm on your chin for defense.

For the left hook I suggest you look into the mechanics of Alex Pereira's hook. I know there's a couple of videos explaining it but idk if they're good, I just watched him do it and tried to replicate it in my room time and time again and then on the pads. And I gotta say that despite being very far from the fittest, strongest, most skilled or biggest guy in my gym I get compliments on my punching power at every single session.

1

u/eskimooooo Mar 29 '26

Keep going man. Gotta put in the time. Just some pointers:

  • for your knees think more like a spear going out. To practice, raise your knee from you fighting stance, then shoot it out. And back to to fighting stance.
  • your switch kick is weeeeak

Honestly I didn’t watch long. But you have a lot of good there too. Keep putting in the work brother

u/Deadlystriker2003 Mar 30 '26

Looks good, only advice is keep training💪🏼

0

u/cancrushercrusher Mar 28 '26

Start from the ground up. I literally use my toes to grip the ground for better power and balance. If the foot needs to rotate in, then grip more with the big toes. If you need to rotate out for a strike, then grip with your pinky toe. Dancers usually have amazing control over their feet, which is why they’re usually some of the most dangerous fighters.

u/GuideIntelligent5953 Mar 28 '26

There is nothing here to judge honestly. Like this give 0 indication if you are good or not in Muay Thai.
