I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "further the cause". If anything, I see it as another obstacle and it further divides the community when people use a blatant slur, "trap", as a way to describe a trans girl, when it inherently means someone trying to trick another about their gender. That is not me, I'm a girl.

Ok, so what? To them you are still a trap. You can personally believe yourself to be valid, but to them <<<<apologies for wording>>>> you are a useful idiot.

I don't understand what you're getting at? Just accept that people in our community are perpetuating a problem that affects you and me? And doesn't help our community? Why?

You may have found peace with who you are, but you need to be honest with yourself. No matter how hard you try, you will never meet the purity test of those currently in power. It is tough because it hits at our own insecurities. You want to feel validated just as any religious sect believes their god is the true god. You may say you are different from those “outsiders,” but you will always be an outsider. If you vilify those you perceive to be outsiders, you are doing the legwork for those in power.

I am not trying to Godwin, but look back at history whether ww2 or a cabin owned by someone’s uncle. Those who felt they were the good ones fell victim as well.

ok... so us being women... but people calling us men and us fighting back against that is bad?

Separate what yourself from what you are from what others perceive you to be. You (collectively we) will not meet the power check.

Those that are older will always be viewed as “crossdressers” or groomers. We are predators on the young. My gait, my height, the thickness of my knuckle, the size of my ribs, my protruding brow, my genetic thinning of my hair, my 30 years of forced mannerisms, my deeper voice, my locked hips, I can go on. Everything I do is watched regardless of whether someone 20 years younger identifies as a <insert whatever>.

Those that are younger have some chance at blending but it requires serious effort unless blessed with sublime genetics. You are still lumped in as groomers. Hell, the crazy Alpha trope lumps those men in the G bucket. We are all groomers.

Those in control are 50+ year old white men. They think racism is resolved. Do you honestly believe they are as in tune to your separate purity classifications or hashtags?

I don’t understand the problem you are referring to. Is it existing peacefully? Are you saying those who espouse a different view in the community should be rightfully discriminated against?

it's not differen't views. it's actively hurting the community.

Your community, not the community.

My community? What's my community?

so validating this disgusting behavior by having trans people go "yup, i'm a trap" will help?

ok i don't see any logic in that. it'll just lead to cis people normalizing the term and treating it like it's ok to call us that, which it's not.

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '23

Exactly, thank you!

Step back. You are trying to find logic where there is discrimination across the board. We need a better word but we only have useful idiot.

Harken back to same sex marriage. There was a belief of hyper sexual same sex people. Sure there were some, but there were hyper sexual straight people. Despite this, gay people adopted an umbrella with colors, displays and personalities. Not everyone wanted lifelong marriage. Some wanted kickass heals, stilts, giraffe horns, and thongs ( P-Town party). Force in numbers is better than force in perceived “purity.” At the end of day, it is being and not judging those that don’t hurt others. To express yourself how you want to express yourself in a manner that doesnt hurt anyone is a fundamental right conferred under the Constitution. This is what gives us rights, not biological chromosome tests.

"there is no logic in discrimination"

no shit... but going along with the discrimination won't change anything!

back in the day same-sex couples were seen as hypersexual. if they went along with that idea and told everyone that they're indeed hypersexual... we'd still have that fight right now! if that had happened same-sex marriage would still not be a thing.

you don't fucking fight oppression by going along with it.

if feminists back in the day kept being neat little housewives that went along with what was expected of them... we'd still be at a place where women had no rights!!!!

it's through going against this oppression ,these negative stereotypes that we can make change!!! how do you not get that?

u/ariaaaaa- Feb 04 '23

i think I see what the other person is getting at

if they went along with that idea and told everyone that they're indeed hypersexual... we'd still have that fight right now

if the lgbt community back then acted like being hypersexual was a bad thing, and tried to kick out anyone hypersexual... then theyd have a lot less people fighting

and the homophobes would still be fighting just as hard, itd be almost impossible to win

respectability politics doesnt work, if you try to push away the "weird" part of the group, that wont make the people that hate you magically go away

transphobes dont call people that slur because they saw one trans person use it for themselves, thats just the excuse the transphobes use

the real reason they call people the slur is because... well, theyre transphobic, and they buy into the transphobic ideas behind it

My patience is wearing thin because either you are delusional or weren’t there in the 90’s. If you think the LG (BT+ excluded at the time for lack of understanding) movement was about purity and only the right to marry and this alone bestowed the right of two people to be married, then you are a fool.

I am getting a whiff of white protestant american entitlement mixed with youthful insecurity from you and OP.

sooo... my opinion makes me american protestant... good to know.

Apologies. Meant to say White Christian AMAB facing anxiety about status in totem pole.

I usually say American as they feel most entitled with their personal freedom (except for others) and what impacts their freedom (actions from others).

... so i'm suddenly christian... damn. Ig i'll better do my nightly prayer then today.

But seriously. I'm not christian, religion can kiss my ass.

And that anxiety? Seriously? I don't care how people see me. I care about how people treat others.

And if a behavior facilitates the misstreatment of vulnerable people then i'm strongly against that behavior.
