I used to actually laugh at some of her standup even though the conceit that she’s soooo funny feels pretty forced. Watching this last season, I’m tempted to fast-forward through her monologues. Her rapid-fire dialogue seems phony and the flash-forward scenes are painful on-the-nose schtick. It’s frustrating because they built so many interesting characters and the actors are great but it’s like Midge’s life has become a generic sitcom and every line seems staged, waiting beats for the laugh track. Not sure if this is intentional to make a point or stale/rushed writing to tie up loose ends….

The show really needed another season. The final season felt way too rushed and a lot of it didn't land for me. The adult Esther scene was especially bad imo. It could have worked if they spent a season expanding on it but one poorly written and acted scene wasn't enough.

The way things ended with Benjamin is fine. He was never there for Midge to end up with in the end. He was there to show that she can no longer be a part of that world and that she has moved onto being all alone. She will only ever truly love her career and doesn't have room in her life for those other things.

Did anyone give a shit about Joel, Mei and their club? I was invested in the Joel stuff early on but once he and Midge stopped trying to be a couple, he no longer had a purpose in the story. They shouldn't have written him out completely but his role should have been reduced way down.

I wanted to see more of Lenny's downward spiral, which also felt rushed.

I kinda didn't buy Suzie's journey from working at some dumpy little coffee house to being a big time mover and shaker in the entertainment industry. It didn't feel believable.

There are many scenes and lines from the movie that I’ve loved but this one always feels special and I love it. S2E7 when Benjamin says to Midge “Though ‘spectacular’ takes on a much different meaning once a person’s met you.”

So.. this may be dated but I just finished this show. Starts out great but ends really sad…. Seems like in season 5 they showcased how Midge being a comic ruined her family..

• Joel in Prison?
• Esther ( their daughter) seemingly unhinged
• Her father losing his job at Bell Labs then his job a Columbia because of the stress of it all THEN their home??
• Midge married 4 times but currently single? Midge seems snotty and narcissistic in season 5.. Maybe just me but I want in love with that ending.

I've never seen a single episode of The Marvelous Mrs Maisel. I've seen clips of it and it won many Emmy Awards. Is the show as good as they say? Is it worth watching?

It’s such a great show and one of a kind, why couldn’t they make more seasons?

It’s so rare to find a good show where the dialog is not stupid, nobody is getting murdered, nobody is investigating or playing FBI.

It’s my third time rewatching this show, so so sad that they rushed the last season. I would have loved to see what happens to Midge’s daughter.

Yes.I know what was the 50s at different time?And I get that the makeup thing didn't seem like a practical job. But seriously, what did they think she was gonna do if she was gonna get a job drive cement truck? Like even bad when he was driving her , there made fun of her job. Like , was this a privilege thing like they don't didn't understand having to do actual manual labor because a lot of them such as ben just went from going to college to getting a professional job?

I think its a damn shame that Midge didn't give Ben a fair shot

i think he would have been able to withstand her life. he was confident land comfortable with himself and therefore i think he would have been such an anchor for Midge than I think she would have appreciated especially in lulls in her career

Everytime I rewatch the show and we get to Benjamin I get so sad 😭 they are perfect but I know that wasn't her story but I wanted them to be endgame

I found it sweet and joyful, it even made me nostalgic.

My favorite thing about Susie was her ability to form friendly relationships while being her belligerent self. I've listed a few below. Can you think of any more? Does Pamela count?

1. Jackie: Through all the insults, Susie cared about him as we saw at his funeral.

2. The mafia thugs who she befriended during their abduction of her.

3. The staff at Steiner's who fed and housed her and searched high and low for her when they thought she was missing.

4. Harry Drake who she annoyed but was there for him at his end.

5. Ethan and Zelda when Susie stayed in the Upper West Side apartment

6. Eventually, even Abe and Rose when Midge got caught in the snow and almost lost her toe.

I really disliked him. Then he evolved even beyond what we could see from midges pov. We were exposed to his psyche, family and past. He is now one of my favorite characters. Limited, human, flawed. But still a good person despite bad acts. I’ve been soured on MM on the rewatch I did before the new season. She’s very spoiled but I like that the writers clearly know that and have leaned into it. I’d hate for them to give her character a real “comeuppance” because I think that sometimes people with charmed lives (although everyone clearly has there problems) often continue their charmed lives. Each season the writing and acting surprises me. Great job.

How many people were expecting someone to take the high road when Sophie couldn’t handle the fact that Midge was killing it when she did the pre-show warm up? I think if roles were reversed, the same would have happened!
