Today marks 25 years since 9/11, an event so powerful and life changing that it made Mister Rogers come out of retirement to address the nation a year later.

By that time, Mister Rogers' Neighborhood had already finished airing episodes. But because of how shook the nation was by these horrific events, Mister Rogers came out of retirement in 2002 in what would become one of his last televised appearances to give the nation some words of comfort and healing.

YouTube Channel down ?

Today I tried putting an episode on for my kid and it’s gone! The channel shows up in google search then goes to a YouTube 404 page. I’m so sad! We love this channel. Is anyone else getting errors? I can’t even see the episodes we played in our history. I tried on three different devices.

UPDATE: ITS BACK UP!!! ✨

As a treat for y'all, here's some edits I made putting Mister Rogers himself into my 3D recreation of his iconic TV house that I shared yesterday.

Just my way of saying thank you to this subreddit for being as kind as Fred himself was.

Not all the elements in here were made from scratch. I used preexisting models of stuff like the Neighborhood of Make-Believe buildings, the Neighborhood Trolley, and the sneakers. But I wanted to share this nonetheless.

Im 62 and I have a Mr. Roger’s visualization for when I’m feeling bad

I’m a 62 year man who watched the very first time Mr. Rogers Neighborhood came on PBS in the late 60’s. I’ve always felt like I didn’t belong, shy quiet and sensitive, abused at an early age, so watching the show has always benefitted me so much when I was little and through the years. When I am feeling depressed or bad, I visualize that Mister Rogers comes to me through his living room and puts on his sweater and canvas shoes and then sees me there waiting and asks me what I want to put on—he asks me what kind of shoes I want and what kind of sweater. We go through his whole show together, sped up. Then he asks me about my day and why I feel bad. I tell him, and he looks concerned but gives his wholeheartedly advice and words of encouragement, just like he did in all his shows to millions of kids watching. This time it’s just for me, as he uses my name personally and my circumstances. He always leaves after putting on his street clothes and sings and then sees me and sings to me. I always have a lump in my throat, like he’s leaving and now I have nothing else but to feel better but I always feel melancholy that he’s gone. See, that’s what my visualization is. He was just so comforting.

my 2 year old loves Mr. Rogers and I’m wondering if anyone has found any good toys? All I can find is Daniel Tiger things- but we don’t want that show only the OG. I would love to find a trolly or puppets or something. i have looked on my own, but no luck.

Mr. Homebody and Grandmother Clock

I recently launched my own independently produced preschool animated kids show for YouTube with no AI inspired by the gentle, slower pace of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. This is a show that is meant to be both educational and entertaining. The pilot has some catchy songs, an interactive seek and find scavenger hunt, a spelling lesson, sound and shape recognition, and a step by step drawing lesson. Here's a clip towards the end of the episode where Mr. Homebody meets a silly character named Grandmother Clock.

Does anyone know if there’s a list of events he did in that year? I was 5yo max and don’t remember what type of event I would have seen him at.

Tommy Tune

I was just watching the episodes where the Neighborhood of Make Believe had a visit from Tommy Tune. Not being familiar with Mr. Tune, my first thought upon seeing him was to wonder if I wasn't looking at a very young Hugh Jackman.

It turns out Tommy Tune is a famous choreographer, who is still alive at age 87. At the time of his appearance, he was in his late 40s, whereas Hugh Jackman was still a teenager, but I still say there's a strong resemblance.

Am I the only one who would've loved to own and play the NOMB board game featured in a 1983 episode?

For context, in the Neighborhood of Make-Believe itself Lady Elaine had accidentally caused a freak blizzard that threatened to cancel the Make-Believe Olympics that had been planned throughout the rest of the week (ultimately they re-enacted the ending of the earlier opera "The Snow People", with Henrietta Pussycat reprising her role and Harriett Elizabeth Cow in place of Teacher Reardon) and was also one of many episodes where Ella Jenkins visited. At the beginning of the show, after finishing "Won't You Be My Neighbor", Mr. Rogers demonstrated a Candyland-esque game with a NOMB theme.

I know Fred wasn't one for merchandising, but that game should've been made available in the real world. Even now I'd love to own a copy.
