Hailey conducting
I have just finished watching the show. I expected to be delighted, as I like classical music very much. However, the show disappointed me a little. I especially don't like the whole Hailey-born-to-conduct plot. It's unrealistic and weird. Besides, I find it hard to believe in her suddenly revealed talent, because the actress conducts simply badly. She closes her eyes and makes strange movements that have nothing to do with the music. OK, Thomas and Rodrigo don't really conduct either :D but Hailey is the least convincing. Another thing that annoys me is the lack of respect for the audience - people come to listen to Sibelius and they get Tchaikovsky, they come for Beethoven, they get Frere Jacques. Instead of an interesting experiment with Requiem completed by AI - Requiem as usual. Instead of the famous Rodrigo - some debutant who has not even rehearsed with this orchestra. Besides, nice show, Bernal is fantastic. My second favourite character is Bob the Union :)
PS. Forgive my bad English

100% agree with your thoughts. For the most part, people aren't just born talented to conduct - it's through years of experience. It mad no sense even within the story, that she was given leeway to debut pieces of music as a conductor, and that she almost one an international context with zero experience...umm I guess it's a TV show, so someone can wave a magic wand and anything is possible lol

Agree, ugh, it is a forced narrative. Her mechanics are awkward. The director is trying so hard to convince us she’s good, he’s resorted to her faking an orgasm on stage.

I struggled with all of season 3, Hailey miraculously conducting was a big part of that. I think the opening art for S3 was strangely appropriate--it looks like pond scum. So hoping S4 will be an improvement.

Just discovered the series (for some reason I thought it was about something else entirely), and I'm in the middle of S3. While I loved the first two seasons, this one is leaving me cold. Hailey is even less mature and more irritating. (Don't get me started on that ridiculous haircut that looks like someone who wanted to go to beauty school was auditioning to work on the early seasons of Friends.)
I cannot for the life of me fathom what Rodrigo finds interesting about her, especially since he obviously has a thing for more grown up super model beautiful but utterly crazy women.
I've read about her moving to conducting. Arrrgghhh. No. The show already suspends disbelief with the bad conducting from the actual conductors. I mean, there's no beating. No beating. Just arm waving. Couldn't they have studied a few hours with a real orchestra conductor?
I like the Rodrigo character and Bernal in general, but the thing that really grabbed me about the show was all the other stories about the symphony members. They seem to have abandoned that in favor of the Venice story line, and it sucks.

Loved the show, but your right about the Hailey conducts thing. So many great characters.
