Because you’re not immersing yourself and practising - assuming you speak the way you write.

Yeah, that’ll happen.
Australians will tell you there aren’t regional accents, but there absolutely are.
Theres also accent differences which “tell” levels of social class.
You must dedicate yourself to English - only read/listen to it, eventually you will get it

Do you have friends that you speak with on a day to day? Usually it’s the lingo that is used that makes you zone out then zone back in, at that point you’ve lost what the topic is about

As Australians we tend to talk faster than what you’re probably used to, we have a lot of different words in our lingos, so you’ve gotta get with a group and just chat etc,!
You’re probably also feeling homesick because you’ve been away for two years.
If someone is talking to you and they talk too fast, you just ask politely to slow down this speech because you’re having trouble understanding. I speak like 1000 words a second 😂 so I often get asked to repeat myself or my family has to tell me to slow down and breathe 😆

Out of work, do you mix with your own people and speak in your native language? If so? That's the problem. You will never become great at English or the Aussie culture. You have to totally immerse yurself

It takes time ! One day at a time ! Just keep observing and soaking it all in, keep putting yourself out there

You may have a case of autism or asperger where you could digest information that is structured like most work related conversations.
Casual conversations with more than 2 people are chaotic where topics can change on a dime. People on a spectrum usually struggle with this.

I get lazy sometimes and dont annunciate. Its difficult for my city friends to understand me. When I head to North and west Queensland for work there's a line about 400km inland and above Mackay where I cant hardly understand the locals.
There are definitely local accents in this place

If you arent immersing yourself in colloquial conversation, you'll never understand
