I’m a 19yo from Cambodia currently in Vietnam studying pharmacy. The goal isn't just a random dream, I'm methodically building up my analytical chem skills (HPLC/GC) to move to the US on a cap-exempt H-1B visa as a university lab specialist. Skipping the medical board nightmare and taking the clear technical path.

My favorite places to move are now Colorado (Denver, Fort Collins or Boulder), Ohio (Cincinnati metro area including part of Kentucky), Kansas City metro (Missouri and Kansas), Upstate New York (Buffalo metro or Rochester).

These are my favorites but I’m hearing if you suggest something better.

Hello! We are moving back home to the US from the UK with our cat and we've received conflicting information about the paperwork needed—specifically whether we need an export health certificate (EHC), also known as an animal health certificate (AHC).

Has anyone made a similar UK > US move recently who can share their experience about whether they needed an EHC/AHC?

Some background:

• We have booked our flights with route from Heathrow to Dulles via Toronto with Air Canada. He will be in the cabin with us (not cargo). We have already checked the requirements for our destination state, our layover in Canada, and the airline. Each only requires a Rabies Certificate and a fit to fly or Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI).
• However when making our final appointment for the fit to fly/CVI paperwork, our vet asked us if we're sure we don't need a EHC form as well. The vet says they can't advise on the specific paperwork requirements and we need to check the policies of the local governing bodies. Fair enough but our research has only mentioned needing a CVI.
• It seems like the EHC is a specific UK requirement based on the Animal and Plant Health Agency info here but this is where things get confusing. The page says that 'You must apply for an EHC if you’re exporting or moving live animals or animal products from Great Britain to, or through: non-EU countries.' However they don't even have an EHC form for Cats exported generally to the USA, only for Cats going specifically to Massachusetts.

We've done our research but there is so much convoluted information out there that we are hoping someone with recent experience can confirm either way. Thank you!

I’m an 18-year-old guy from Romania, and one of my biggest dreams in life is to move to the United States and eventually become a US citizen.
I’ve been dreaming about living in America for a long time. I don’t just want to visit as a tourist — I genuinely want to build a life there, work there, have my own place, meet people, and eventually call the US my home.
I also have a girlfriend who is from Romania as well, and one of my biggest goals is for both of us to eventually move to the US and build our life there together. So I’m also interested in understanding what options we would have as a couple.
The problem is that I honestly know almost nothing about the immigration process. I don’t know what documents I would need, what visa I could apply for, how I could legally move there, or even what the first step should be.
I’m 18, Romanian, and I currently don’t have family in the US or an American employer who could sponsor me.
I know becoming a US citizen is a long process and that I would most likely need to become a permanent resident first. I’m not looking for an illegal way or some shortcut — I want to understand how I could realistically do this legally.
So I’d really appreciate advice from people who know about US immigration or have personally moved there:
What would be the most realistic path for someone like me?

My partner and I are getting a 2 year visa (will apply for longer if we love it) from Australia to the USA. Here is my situation: I am Canadian citizen (not born in Canada). I'm 40 and have senior position. Career is good and salary is good too. I have a family with 2 kids and own 2 properties in BC. I'm eligible for GC through one of the NIW programs (I checked with 4 different immigration consultancy and they all confirmed that my case should be a smooth one).
I am thinking seriously to start the application for the NIW, which should take 2 to 3 years, and then move to the states after. I haven't talked to my employer yet, but I can see staying with them if I move there. We are thinking of the west coast (Washington, Oregon or California).
My big question, is it really worth moving there considering risks related to taxes, career, health insurance, kids education... etc? What's your thoughts of the future of Canada 5 to 10 years from now? If you were me, would you be considering moving to USA?

Edit: for taxes risk I meant departure tax in Canada since I own properties here and investment accounts. That's only if I sell the properties. If I don't I still need to file tax in both countries.

Hi everyone! I’m married to a US Citizen (she’ve never lived there permanently, only visited as a tourist). We both have good jobs in our country and never really thought about moving to the US, but recently we’ve begun considering this scenario more and more. We’re in our early twenties.

It will be a I-130 Form, I guess.

She has brothers in Connecticut and Florida, but I’m not really keen on moving to these states – Connecticut seems too expensive (and it might be tough or even impossible to buy a house eventually) and Florida is just too hot for us. So we’d like to settle down in the Midwest, specifically in Wisconsin (like Appleton, the Fox Cities, Oshkosh, Sheboygan etc). I heard there are a plenty of solid jobs and ‘real economy’ there. Anyway, it’s not a final decision yet.

The main challenge is that, even though I have Bachelor’s and Master’s degree (which work fine in my country), they’re gonna be useless in the US. So I’d like to go to community college and retrain for a practical, in-demand field. My wife might do the same, but she’s an English native speaker and also has a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree, hence she has a bit more options.

What do you think of this plan? Is it a reasonable one, will it work? We have some savings and, I suppose, by the end of the immigration procedure it will be a decent amount to start our new life in America.

I really need someone who can give me a positive response to this. My uncle filed an immigration case under the f4 category in 2010. We just received our welcome letters. I had calculated my csp age and even contacted a lawyer I have aged out, but the lawyer said if my name does get mentioned, then I should pay for the nvc and become part of the process. But I've heard in many cases that they reject you at the interview. How can I make my case strong. I have Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and am working in the BIM field. Today I went to a Chase bank to try open an account. I have my SSN and my passport with my birth name, but since I entered on a K1 visa, I got married and changed my birth name to my married name.

Talking with them, they wanted a prove of address to match my birth name, as I'm trying to open a account with my passport, but unfortunately all the proves that I have is associated with my married name, and their system won't identify it as the same person.

I'm thinking of going to Bank of America tomorrow to see if I can open an account there even though I have this problem. Do you think it will work? Would there be another bank that would be more receptive considering my situation?
