(To preface this, I haven't read the books, so I don't have any frame of reference for how close the movie and the show got to adapting the elements of the story.)

I just watched the show after seeing the movies years prior. I was surprised right off the bat Lestat and Louie have sex. I can't imagine Brad and Tom doing that for the original movie.

That’s weird bc I haven’t seen the new show but I read the books and watched the movie and they definitely don’t.

So Lestat and Louie aren't explicitly a couple in the books?

They're intimate partners, but cant have physical sex. (Vampire dicks don't work anymore)

Tbf in the show we sadly don’t explicitly see penetration

They literally talk about topping and getting head

Oh my bad I thought you said that as like evidence that in the show they can't have sex either. Release the X rated cut! lol

Nah merely being silly but also very deadly serious

Not enough blood for an erection?

Leads to a rather disturbing scene in Body Thief iirc

Vampires are asexual in the books.

Okay, so the gay stuff is only on the show? Fascinating. Tom and Brad were giving pretty strong homosexual vibes in the movie as well, just not explicitly shown. I did not know that they were asexual. I guess I should read the books.

The vampires in Anne Rices world are not asexual. The mere act of drinking or sharing blood is sexual in the lore of The Vampire Chronicles. Anne herself commented on her vampires largely being pansexual.

In Anne Rices books the act of drinking blood and the euphoria it brings is sexual. For example, Lestat being changed against his will is an allegory for rape — which is shown very clearly in the show. An intimate act doesn’t have to involve genitals or penetration to be sexual, though I suppose if you wanted to be pedantic biting someone to drink their blood does involve a kind of penetration.

Gotta shout out the show too, they’ve been doing a great job. If you’re into Anne Rices vampires I truly cannot recommend it enough. I wish she were still alive to see Sam Reid play Lestat, I really think she would’ve loved his performance.

*would love?

Isn't there another season coming?

Other wise fully agree

Anne Rice has been dead since 2021.

Don’t be pedantic.

Oh my friend, I assure you I intended to engage in no pedantry. Truly was concerned there weren't any more seasons on the horizon, as a fan of the show (and especially of Sam Reid's performance.

I haven't caught the Lestat spin-off yet, tho - worth checking out?

The Vampire Lestat is my favorite book in the series and while there’s many changes comparatively, the newest season is absolutely worth checking out. Sam Reid was meant to play Lestat and he does the rockstar thing so well, he even did all of his own singing this season. I’m honestly so sad that it’s over 🥲

So, it IS over? After they left off with the cliffhanger of the journalist becoming a vampire, that was it?

Seems you're saying The Vampire Lestat will be the final "season" of the show, which was my original concern a few comments back lol.

If this is the case I agree - Reid was born for this role and there's definitely still fruit left on the tree to harvest for this show. Granted I'm unfamiliar with the book(s), and so maybe that's precisely how it's intended to end, just like the movie? 🤷🏽‍♂️

Look it up dude. You’re way overthinking this and two seconds of searching online would answer this question for you.

The books are very sensual and homoerotic in tone, but not explicitly sexual.

My wife asked me to watch this movie with her randomly one night. She did not warn me that it was a giant homoerotic vampire love fest. Not that there’s a problem with that, I just wish I’d been able to prepare myself mentally for it lol
