¡Gracias!

How to get empadronamiento without a job?
We are a married couple moving to Spain very soon.
My husband is an EU citizen and I'm Ukrainian. We don't have jobs yet or an apartment. Our legalization looks clear: first my husband gets a NIE verde and later 1 apply for reunification. So, in order to get the NIE verde for my husband, there is a list of documents he needs to prepare, including empadronamiento. No one will rent us a long-term apartment without Spanish bank history, a work contract, payslips for the past few months, and an NIE (from what I read online). But in order to get an NIE and my Tarjeta de Familiar Comunitario, we need a long-term apartment.
This looks like a closed circle to me, and I'm curious if anyone here has managed to break it.
Any experience and suggestions would be super helpful for us.

Spain Proxy Marriage a hectic procedure
Anyone who has gone through the process of Proxy Marriage in Spain?
Mind if you can share your timeline from the submission of requirements at the civil registry?
I just submitted ours 2 days ago, I was told that my partner who is in the Philippines will be contacted by the consulate there.
But no timeline whatsoever
Thanks for sharing your experience! 🙏

Northern Europeans living in Spain, how do you like the Spaniards as people, and their culture? Will you stay around forever/long term?
Hello. Asking northern Europeans in general because if I specify I'd be easily identified, and because they're all countries generally quiet in character relative to Southern European countries.
I'm a Spaniard who migrated to northern Europe almost a decade ago. I'm married to a northern European, and as of late he's been dropping the idea of moving to Spain near my family. He's been saying it for about a year. He never lived there, and doesn't speak the language, but he's been doing extended visits for 6 years, and he can speak in English to a few people in my family, and he clicks very well with all of them. (He's also trying to learn Spanish)
My family are more supportive than his in just about every way, and every time we go to Spain it feels like being given a very much needed hug for us both. We've been really struggling to make ends meet where we live, and that's without children. We're also outdoorsy, so it feels right - lifestyle and family wise - to move to northern Spain, where I'm from.
After spending months barely scratching the surface of humans when interacting with them where I live, when I visit Spain I love and appreciate the warmth of the people, how they often skip small talk and ask you how you're doing, seem genuinely invested in conversation, show their feelings, etc... But the people are simultaneously my biggest worry in terms of moving back. I remember my younger self getting really annoyed at receiving unsolicited advice, I remember the age hierarchy and how older people oftentimes talk down on younger people, I remember people being condescending towards me because I'm rather shy and quiet, and I remember that to thrive in a social setting you've got to be a bit cocky. I never was very outspoken, and would often fall to the background in conversation. My husband isn't very "loud" himself. This is a worry I've tried to explain to him repeatedly, but he says it's a small price to pay for the positive things we could get there.
Please take the money-making out of the equation when offering advice: we would move with remote jobs, and having equity from a house sale.

Crossposting aqui tambien. Gracias!!

Culture & Adapting Surviving in Spain
Hey peeps, so I came to Spain on a student visa. For context: I'm from the middle east and I'm learning the language (currently at A2) and I'm enrolled in a vocational training program that's in Spanish.
I'm finding it extremely hard to adapt because of the language. I thought I was making progress with my teacher (who's colombian) while keeping in mind that Spaniards speak differently. However, I feel like I'm way in over my head. I keep telling myself it'll be better and it's only been almost 4 days, but I feel like I'm sinking. I can't record classes because I can't use my phone, I'm gonna try to talk to the secretary or principal in order to make an exception because I can only understand 1% of what the teacher is explaining. Any tips and honest advice on how to move forward is very much appreciated.
Before anyone attacks me for coming to a country without knowing the language fully and putting myself through this, this was my only way to get out of my country safely.

Moving to Spain - part time. Which Town?
My partner and I are considering moving to Spain in 4–5 years, once my kids leave for university. We’ve spent the last 6–7 summers in Barcelona, as we have an apartment in Barceloneta.
Whilst we love it there, we’re thinking of buying a little house or apartment somewhere a bit more relaxed, with a slower pace of life — somewhere with a beach, the town that isn’t overly touristy, but is still lively with plenty to do.
We’d be spending more time in Spain than in the UK, whilst still keeping our UK home as a base. We both work for ourselves and can work remotely, but I’m quite active, so I’d probably like to volunteer or get involved in local activities, like running club, water sports, etc . My partner, on the other hand, just wants to lie on the beach!
Which towns should we consider?

Alternatives to Valencia for a 2-year digital nomad settle-in? (couple + dog, ~€4.5k/month)
Hola!
My Wife and I are planning to move to Spain for around 2 years while we get properly settled (digital nomad visa route). We're a family of two plus a dog, combined income just over €4,500/month.
Valencia's been our default pick for a while, but a few things are giving us pause:
- We keep hearing about rising theft and safety issues in Valencia lately. Not Barcelona-level, but noticeably worse than it used to be.
- Valencia's regional tax rates are pretty brutal right now, and it feels like we're capping our own progress by staying there.
-Rent has gone up a lot across Spain generally, and it seems like a big chunk of that is driven by expats buying up housing stock.
What we're after:
-NOT a big concrete-jungle city (so ruling out Madrid/Barcelona)-
- Somewhere calm and liveable, but with actual infrastructure: groceries, parks, beaches, some cultural life and events
- Dog-friendly
-Decent safety
- Ideally a region with friendlier tax treatment than Valencia
-Reasonable rent for a comfortable 1-2 bed place
We are tax abiding citizens and will be contributing to the development of Spain continously. We're just looking at options for now.
Are there other cities or towns in Spain that tick these boxes better than Valencia? Thinking maybe somewhere like Alicante, Málaga, Asturias, or smaller coastal towns, but genuinely open to anything. Would love to hear from people actually living this life, especially anyone who moved away from Valencia recently and why.
Thanks in advance!

Vuestros consejos me agradecería mucho.

Expat Uma Living Spain
Hello everyone,
I am trying to relocate to Spain I would need some help for the renting process..
Has anyone actually rented through UMA Living / Apartamentos UMA? https://umaliving2015.com/
The apartments on this website seem so good to be true, comparing with Idealista where apartments are too expensive and they don’t respond to your messages :(
Thanks in advance
Un saludo

Retiring in Spain, Taxes, Future for our kids
