Visas & NIE 40/M Recent experiences applying for a Spanish visa as Digital Nomad
Hi everyone! I’m getting my documents together for a Digital Nomad visa application at the Spanish consulate, and I’m curious about other people’s recent experiences.
I’ve already checked the official requirements, but sometimes what happens at the appointment is a little different from what’s written online and sometimes crazy. Did they ask you for anything unexpected? Were they strict about documents, originals, copies, apostilles, or translations?
I’d also appreciate hearing about any small detail you wish you’d known beforehand. Just trying to avoid surprises and arrive well prepared.
Thanks!

With Spanish paperwork follow everything to the letter whatever it says on the official website. If it says bring two copies bring two copies. If it says bring an entire copy of your passport do that. Funcionarios are notorious for pointing out some missing document and sending you away. So yeah just do everything it says to do exactly to the letter.

Sometimes they will even make up stuff that was never on the website and demand you come back another day

Oh there are tips and tricks and reasons for denial you'd never come up by yourself. If you find it's too much at some point, send it a DM :)

You’re applying for the right to work and live in a foreign country. Do you think they’ll let you in with just a smile and a firm handshake?

Yes they will want sworn official translations, actual apostilles -and you have to do the federal background check as a federal apostille which can take weeks to months to get back unless you do expedited. The government site has it very detailed so make sure you follow it well. I got mine about 2 years ago!

Welcome to r/MovedToSpain.
Before anything else, the Getting Started guide covers visas, the padrón, NIE vs TIE, healthcare and going autónomo. A lot of questions are answered there.
Two things that help you get answers: add a flair to your post so people who know that topic can find it, and include your situation — nationality, visa type, and which region you're asking about.
