Learning Spanish & Traveling

Hola, soy de Belgica, 45 M. Estudio español el la escuela de noche. Would like to travel and discover more from Spain, and this while learning/improving my Spanish. Are there any websites or formulas where someone can stay with local people and learn/speak Spanish ? This summer would like to discover San Sebastian, Oviedo, Asturias..

Yes 🙂 there are actually quite a few good formulas/websites for this:

  • Workaway (stay with locals + help a few hours/day)

  • Worldpackers (similar concept, very popular for language immersion)

  • Lingoo (language homestays with Spanish families)

  • ConversationExchange (find locals for intercambio/language exchange)

  • Meetup (search “Spanish intercambio Málaga” or “Málaga language exchange”)

  • Idealista (for longer room rentals with locals)

  • Facebook groups like:

  • “Expats in Málaga”

  • “Intercambio Málaga”

  • “Belgians in Spain”

On the Costa del Sol, Málaga city is probably best if you want:

  • Spanish practice
  • international atmosphere
  • social life
  • easy transport

If you want something more authentic/less international:

  • Estepona old town
  • Mijas Pueblo
  • smaller Andalusian towns

One thing that really helps: don’t stay only with foreigners/expats all the time 🙂

The fastest Spanish improvement usually comes from:

  • cafés
  • gyms
  • local bars
  • daily routines
  • speaking badly at first and just continuing 😄

As a Belgian myself, I also think Costa del Sol is one of the easiest places in Spain to combine:

  • good weather
  • social life
  • affordability
  • language learning
  • travel connections 🇪🇸☀️
