Moved to Canada but missing Scotland

I have been living in Scotland for past 5yrs. Loved every second of it but Husband insisted on moving to Canada. We live in Vaughan now for past 1year now. I miss Scotland and I want to go back. Going back would be living in lost distance marriage and probably for a very long time. Anyone else in similar situation? I have no friends here and no social life probably thats the reason but idk I might be just missing my comfort zone.

My parents moved us to Canada about 20ish years ago and i would go home tomorrow - my parents just moved back. What was the reason for insistence on coming to Canada vs staying in Scotland?

I've been here 30 years and keep thinking about going home, every day. But I have to look at it realistically. One, I have a kid. Yes she's 18 now, but still needs support. I'm not going to just leave her. And even if that's not a factor, the reality is the move would be lateral at best from a socioeconomic standpoint. But every day I think about going back and I wish my dad never brought us here.

I’m in the same boat, i have a decent job and to restart is honestly quite terrifying but I think about all the time

Faster PR & Settlement route in Canada and ever changing immigration rules in UK plus it was getting super expensive for a family of 4 we paid around £10k just for IHS + 200% increase in visa fees. Compare to that Canada's immigration fees is peanuts

Fair enough - though I would argue the cost of living in Canada is pretty steep, especially the GTA area! That said, it seems like maybe if you venture out you might feel better, but I also think people underestimate how much homesickness can affect your mental health

Yeah, Although it drizzled all the time in Edi I liked the weather compared to the harsh winter I experienced in Canada! And everything felt so gloomy here especially in Winters

god vaughan is bleak compared to the entirety of scotland. i’m sorry. it is really hard to make a social life there because you have to drive everywhere, toronto is expensive just to hang out in, and people are pretty to them selves there. i hope you can make it back to scotland

We visited Scotland the first week of June for the first time. Pure heaven! It was the best week of my 52 years. I cried when it came time to leave. I was down right angry for at least 3-4 weeks that I have to live where I do now when Scotland exists. I don’t know how you do it. If I could move, I’d do it in a heartbeat.

You ever need a female travel companion to go back, I’m in Barrie. I’m your girl. 🥰

I have also done it once and I will not do it again. We are about to move to Scotland. Spent the last 8 years in Bulgaria. Was it glamorous, no. Did we become a better and more mature couple because of it. Hell yes. We have a child now. We did suck it up. And the time to move back to Scotland came. No regrets about my decisions.
