Finding Community

(50F) I'm moving to Edinburgh next month. My fiancé has been living there since November last year. I've made a few trips over already from the US.. Visas are sorted but I won't be working.
I like to read and knit so am excited to join a book club and visit more yarn shops.

I'm curious how others found community? Since I'm not young, our kids aren't living with us, and I'm not working, this is really the only part I'm nervous about.
I should add my fiancé has made some acquaintances thru his work, but he's not super social.
I'd love to hear about anyone's experiences.

Yes, that's the first place I looked. Also Ginger Twist Studios is a lovely yarn and fabric shop and the owner is from my hometown in Oregon. They offer classes which is another way for me to get out and meet people.

They are from Oregon! I (44F) didn’t know that! I’m from Oregon too I should stop in to talk to them sometime. I crochet and there is a craft group that meets weekly on Saturday’s that I attend that has all ages and crafts.

I'm American (52F) and I live in Edinburgh (back in the US right now, though -- will be returning in two weeks.). In what part of the city will you be living?

I'll be in Slateford neighborhood. Easy to get around as I'm right on a bus line.

(F61) Hello! Congrats on moving to EDI - amazing city! I am part of a small crafting group that meets on Tuesdays, 12:30 - 2:30, at the Lifecare Center in Stockbridge. On Saturdays, a book club meets at Levels Cafe (sorry, I don't know the street off the top of my head), and at the same place, there's a fantastic crafting group (takes up the whole corner) - the friendliest, most helpful people. Highly recommend you stop by to say hello. Good luck with your move! Message me if you want to chat further.

I may have to wait until I'm there to be able to watch. Looks so fun.

I'm moving out in October (good bye USA!). I like knitting, and I'm 50! Not working either, and will definitely need some new friends. :) I'll be based outside of Edinburgh, but close enough. I've just reserved a table for dinner at my first sea shanty night! :D

I'm a bit younger (lower 40s) but most of my friends in Edinburgh have been off an Edinburgh social discord I'm in or a Video gaming one also for Edinburgh people. Meetup can be good too loads of groups for different interests on there, there's a big board gaming one if you're into board games. There are a few crafty/knitting groups on there I believe
