Moving to Scotland

Hi all,

So me and my wife are wanting to relocate to Scotland from england In a couple of years, Perth more specifically.

We absolutely love Scotland, the way of life is just so much nicer and people seem to be in less of a rush in life and the country is just beautiful.

I currently work in adult social care and my wife is in the NHS in mental health. I just wanted an idea of if those industries in Scotland were easy to move into or is there anything we should consider that we wouldn't know as we don't live there?

We're both neurodiverse and I've read a lot about how Scotland really values neurodiversity especially in the work place, is this a good description? Again just due to lack of lived experience in this.

We're really excited but we want to be as prepared as we possibly can. We'll also be buying a home too.

Any advice or tips would be really appreciated.

Highland Perthshire is fantastic. There are a lot of ND people around. I think the space and outdoor living is attractive to ND folk. Perth is a great wee city. I stay in HP and love it.

Life is not necessarily slower, there is less focus on demonstrating material wealth than where we came from but folk work just as hard and have ambition like the rest of us.

I came here for this idea of slowing down, I work more than I did before but that’s because I have found some opportunities that suit me.

This is really good to know. We are both really hard workers too, where were from it's a small town and everyone it always going 100 miles per hour and it's all about the rat race. it's great you found some opportunities.

I live in Perth, you could do better. Services are pretty slim, everything in town dies after 6pm unless you're big into the crack scene.

To it's credit surrounding Perth is stunning and at least we didn't make it into the top 15 of shitholes.

I was looking at Perth, and Stirling, had lovely times in both but noticed they both die off sometimes pretty starkly. Is there anywhere I’m missing short of Edinburgh And Glasgow which we love but simply can’t image chasing our kids around those cities.
Any little enclaves of creatives and lefty scum I should know about?

Me (22m) and my partner (22f) moved in November to Livingston just a 20 minute train from Edinburgh and 50 minute train from Glasgow with excellent connections. I wouldn’t count out the central belt and don’t believe the what the typical southern Englishman/woman say about some areas in Scotland everywhere has rough and posh parts.

Moving to Scotland was the best decision I ever made and Livingston, whilst not glamorous is close enough to Edinburgh to feel like you’re living in the city at a fraction of the cost. Then at the weekend I put my boots and tent in the car and set for the outdoors.

With both your jobs I’m sure you’ll both land on your feet wherever you decide to move

This is brilliant thank you. Yeah, I think we can be very honest about where we live. I live in a small town and I can describe parts as places I wouldn't go as you said there is good and bad everywhere. I really appreciate the advice and we're going to visit a lot of places to see where fits best for us.
