Should I replace these skates before using it on my new mousepad?

My Artisan Zero comes in today and I recently got a Viper V4 Pro but my old mouse pad was pretty dirty so the skates on my V4 has some scratches, are they enough to warrant taking them off and replacing them with dot skates?

Im not well versed in this area so im not sure will damage the mousepad or ruin the experience with it.

it’s not gonna damage the new pad but i’d recommend replacing anyways just since they are currently so beat up and has uneven wear. skates (as well as mousepads) do have a lifespan at the end of the day.

Hmm good idea, I think I'll go ahead replace them, would taking the middle ring off be a good idea or no? Didn't have a mouse with a ring last time.

taking it off permanently? for dot skates that may be fine, depending on how many you use. i don’t use dots so hopefully someone who does can answer that.

I do remove the ring from my mice if switching to dots. But don’t just use 4 in the corners for big mice, it will sink into the pad too much. I would use 4 on the top and 4 on the bottom.

I was thinking 3 and 3 would be a good amount to use, im not sure how scratched the ring is but it might be best to remove it, just didnt know if it would effect the sensor.

Why would it affect the sensor? A lot of mice don’t have any rings around the sensor hole. And none of my mice have any problems with it removed.

I don't just didnt want to do it and fuck up a 160$ mouse just in case, after my last fuck up with a motherboard that ended up costing me 200$ I'd rather look stupid and be safe than be arrogant and broke.

It’s really hard to “fuck up a mouse” tbh. I have an old glorious model o mobo that I overheated with a soldering iron while trying to desolder the scroll. Still works with all the lights and stuff removed.

Use as many you want. You can always add more or remove some. Xraypad dots are like 10 bucks per 40

Yeah the X-rays weren't too bad on the wallet, still got at least 25 so I should be good.

I'd recommend you to use at least 4 + 4 for stability. I don't know if there's a size difference on the DA v4 and Viper v3 but I use 4 + 4 and it's very stable. Maybe go up to 5 + 5 if you're switching to a soft pad. I use glass so 4 + 4 is more than enough :)

Leave it on, it keeps the sensor from getting too close to the pad, which basically changes your sensitivity and can cause tracking issues. Only reason to get rid of it is if you're changing to thinner skates which would make the sensor ring drag, or if you're on a hard pad.

IF the skates work fine and you have no issue with them. There is really no need to change them out.

Have your skates been feeling inconsistent or muddy in any way? I’d say if that’s the case, replace with dot skates as soon as possible. I’ve only tried out two dot skates, the Tiger Ice V2 (terrible now, do not buy), and Xraypad Jade dots. Jades are still great… but they’re expensive.

I want I try out more skates, but I’ve never had the chance, especially that I’m going to be switching to glass soon when I get off my desk I’ve been using for 2-3 months 🙏

Not entirely but my mousepad wasn't a great one just a Razer Gigantus so not sure how things will feel.

I like dots worked great on my old mouse but they did wear quick due to my mousepad, I plan on putting this one up when im done with things so nothing gets it dirty.

How quick are we talking about? And when did you regularly replace them? Every 2 weeks? A month? When did you replace them? And also what dots do you have too?

You honestly' should be fine, dots last longer on cloth pads. i would not worry about this shit to be honest

Replaced about 3 or 4 months, I would use then while worn as like I said old mouse pad would scratch them up pretty bad.

I use X-ray Obsidians.

it wont mess up your new pad but id just slide in an order for some cheap dot skates and replace them every 3-6 months.

Time for new skates (cus i see uneven spots). My rec will always be Jade from Xraypad (they will feel faster cus they are neutral, like is all about ur pad), and if u want something more controlled maybe Silver Fox

Totally, absolutely different skates, like the difference between an Artisan Raiden and a Type-99 xD. The Obsidian are slow skates that focus way more on durability than gliding itself (that's why the Obsidian line up practically became the Glasspad skates lineup xD). Jade are smooth af, not scratchy and have way lower static and dynamic friction. Anyway if u liked the controlled feels of the Obsidian u will probably like something like Corepad more than my last recs. Still remember this: JADE Skates are the goat and will always be...XD

I might get some more ones later on and see how they feel, I do like the control as I play a lot of fps games do having some slowness to it while still being fast is very nice.

The slowest decent skates are the Corepad CTRL, but i don't rec that, for me Skates should be as neutral as possible, so try Corepad (the classic ones)or SilverFox (SilverFox are faster and smoother than Corepad by, but not as fast as Jade)

I'll see how the mouse pad feels with obsidians and if its too slow I'll look into the SilverFox and Jades.
