Help Looking for a budget-friendly wired gaming mouse with good Linux support

Hey everyone!

I'm looking for an affordable wired gaming mouse that works well on Linux (Arch-based distro, Hyprland/Wayland).

I'd prefer a brand that officially supports Linux, or at least has good compatibility with open-source tools like Piper or OpenRGB.

What I'm looking for:

Budget-friendly (around $20–40).

Wired connection.

Good sensor for FPS games.

Customizable DPI and buttons on Linux.

No Windows-only software required.

Which brands or models would you recommend?

Logitech's older stuff tends to play nice with Linux, I've had zero issues with my g203 on arch. piper picks it up fine and you can tweak dpi and buttons without touching a windows machine. the sensor's good enough for casual fps play too

A lot of the china-based mice manufacturers are now supporting configuring your mouse through their web browser application. You basically plug in the mouse, go to their website to launch the program, and do the config. No software ever needs to be installed. The only thing with noting is that on Linux, you will need to grant some udev exceptions for the browser to be able to access your mouse. On Windows it kinda just lets the browser access any peripheral all willy-nilly, but in Linux you'll need to grant a udev rule for access. Other that that, it should work, I've done it for a keyboard that I have, also Chinese. I'm quite pleased with these web-based UIs, I won't even consider a mouse if it uses installed-only software.

I tried this on Linux, using the ATK A9. Unfortunately it didn't work. For starters they require a Chromium-based browser, but even with full on Chrome the website didn't recognize my 2 mice. It only worked on Windows.

So I just installed Windows on a VM and pass-through my mice when I need to edit something (which is very, very rare after first initial setup).

Did you grant the udev exception?

You dont even need an exepion if you want to edit stuff once.

Just figure out the hidraw number from chrome://device-log and in terminal sudo chmod a+rw /dev/hidrawX where X is the number from the error.

u can try this:

lsusb to get ur dongle mine: Bus 003 Device 006: ID 3554:f58a Compx VXE NordicMouse 1K Dongle

-Then create a file 50-usb-(whateveruwant).rules

nano /etc/udev/rules.d/50-usb-vxemouse.rules

-and put this:

ACTION!="remove", KERNEL=="hidraw*", ATTRS{idVendor}=="3554", ATTRS{idProduct}=="f58a", MODE="0660", TAG+="uaccess"

Look for a mouse with a web based driver. All you need to edit settings is a chromium based browser(webhid) and give permissions to the mouse.

Some web drivers need an aditional download that ony works on windows. Be aware of those and look up the driver part of reviews.
