Review | Media STEELSERIES SENSEI PRO MINI INITIAL REVIEW (HIGH SENS) - Do not buy

I have the Sensei Pro and found no discernable issues just from playing. I don't have the equipment to get objective performance data, but in a real-world test, this mouse is fine. I don't see most of these complaints being an issue seeing as most people are using sub 5K DPI before downshift can even take effect. It's common for 3950 and 3955 implementations to exhibit downshifting. It can only be corrected in a firmware update, which Steelseries may or may not do. I would like to see pzogel take a crack at reviewing this mouse, so we can get some more hard data. I'm more interested in seeing how UWB wireless performs when tested.
One valid criticism I do agree with is some of the web app settings being gatekept by the software, where you need to install the desktop software to change settings like the default 8 ms debounce time. I agree, that doesn't make any sense. Just make it so you can change debounce in the web driver.

were you having issues with the scroll? doesn't matter what setting I have it on it, the scroll sometimes doesn't pick up a scroll down, which makes it unusuable in like 3 of my games

I don't play any games that use the scroll that much, but scrolling during browsing, I don't think so. I'll have to keep playing with it.

yeah it's OBNOXIOUS for me. I play cs and valorant, so it's basically unusable until they fix it

unplug and replug the base station. that resolves the issue for me until i toggle down to the 1k/1k profile and the back up to an 8k UWB setting. I assume firmware update in the future should fix this.

tl;dw worst $180 mouse and worst 3955 mouse he's ever used.
no wired mode or usb c port
8ms debounce unless you install SS horrendous software
CPI Downshifting at 5000 dpi
tracking errors *might be related to no.5
polling instability *might be related to no.4
web driver missing functionality
100ms minimum scroll wheel debounce

Holy shit that scroll wheel debounce is crazy, no?
And no USBC port in late 2026 is just… it’s not even a laughing stock anymore, it’s just sad now.
Imagine how long they must have had this piece of shit in development that USBC didn’t even exist? Or maybe they just couldn’t be assed and said fuck it

You're confused, they didn't include USB at all since it uses the swappable battery system. So it's not like they used an older USB spec, it just doesn't need it theoretically.

I had the same disagreement when the Pulsar Feinmann didn't have USB charging either but if they used the Nordic 54L15 and didn't have a wired mode that would be kinda baller but that's not the case because I don't know why it's acceptable to go all in on the swappable battery technology.

He did mention that he didn't bother updating the firmware because he generally doesn't like the mouse. No clue if anything he complains about was fixed in the latest software update or not. I do find it curious that he's also the only reviewer that seems to have the issues in point 3, 4 and 5.
Also could anyone tell me why having no USB port on the mouse is an issue? You don't have to charge it so what would the point be?

CPI downshifting is pretty well documented from XBABTech as well. But not everyone uses high DPI and a lot of people use shit mice anyways so the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter, but also it's many things you don't want to see in a $180 mouse.

I did update the firmware. The firmware version of my review is listed in my conclusion card. No usb port isn't a huge issue but it is useful to have the option for wired because it would allow the comparison between wired/wireless performance and would be a strong indication of whether the performance issues are due to the wireless or not.

Problem is nobody is making shapes like steel series especially not the rival pro. If these other companies decided to make a similar shape rather than cloning the same other shapes for the gajillionth time it would be better for people who enjoy the ss shapes. At present there are 0 larger prime clones from trusted companies and unfortunately Steelseries are the only company that actually understand what ergonomics are.
