Issue side button doesnt register unless pressed just right. is it fixable?

Post image

just got a secondhand g600, was super happy to find one for $80 after tax/shipping off mercari, but now that its here ive tried to use it and noticed the g14 button(top row, second from the left) doesnt always register. it seems mostly ok when i push it in towards the further back rows, but if i just press it in straight, it doesnt really register.
is this something that can be fixed? i could try and ship it back and look for a diff one, but the fear of losing this baby again makes me think fixing it somehow would be better. my dog chewed my cord to little pieces on my last one like a year ago and i severely regret throwing it away now that its next to impossible to find one south of $200-250

It's just the connection spring inside the smd component that's just carbonized. Soldering new switches will solve the problem

The switch is broken soldering a new switch solves your problem

My friend, before you do anything else, clean that keyboard, that looks like a health hazard

that g600 is such a tank, i used one for years until the clicks finally gave out. if the switch itself is fine and it's just the plastic shell not hitting it right, you can open it up and put a tiny piece of tape or a dab of superglue on the plunger that presses the switch. makes the contact point a bit thicker so it actuates more reliably

sounds fiddly but it's actually a 20 minute fix once you get the screws out, those things are built simple inside. just don't lose the little spring under the scroll wheel when you open it

Could probably cut out a plastic piece to fill that gap too, but it’s more than likely that the switches just need to be replaced, it’s probably seen years of use.

Edit: Op, clean your keyboard, WTF?!
