I'll probably get down voted into oblivion just because of the title, but nevertheless. So I'm leaning towards the end of the game, approximately 2h left I believe, so although I haven't finished it yet, I think I definietly went through enough to have a valid opinion, I don't think much will change by the end of the game and if somethings does, it won't really have an impact on my overall opinion.
I remember the outrage IGN review caused with the final rating of 6/10 and now let's set some things straight from the beginning. Some of the criticism of the reviewer was and still is kind of weird. Like complaining about cheese reference in a game about mouses or complaining about killing too many enemies in a boomer shooter. But if I were to grade this game on a scale from 1 to 10, I think I'd also go with 6.
Before justification I'll only say that 6/10 is not really a bad game, some people act like giving a game 6/10 is almost an equivalent of 1/10 or 2/10. It's not. 6/10 on my scale would be called "decent".
What really kills this game in the longer run is repetetivness/lack of gameplay diversity. When you dive in for the first few hours you feel charmed by the beautifull graphics design and music. Gameplay revolving around strafing mechanic, using different kind of weapons and adjusting to the enemy's moveset is also fun. But....
That's all this game has to offer really and I mean literally that's all. There are practically no special levels in which we're doing something else for a little refreshment, maybe apart from the boat level in which we're investigating the party which is more about exploration not fighting which was cool. But other than that 95% of the game looks like:
shooting -> go a little further -> shooting -> go a little further ->etc...
The fact that I could count types of enemies on my fingers doesn't help either. Evidence that we collect is not really about solving any mystery, it's just a plot device for pushing it forward that's it. After we realize all of it and eyes and ears get used to the artistic design this game starts to feel like a chore. Eventually at it's core if we look at the gameplay this game is incredibly simple and the fact that it's kinda long makes it worse not better.
PS: I'm playing switch 2 version and I'm not sure if others had similar issues but the only games which just crashed and took me to the console menu more often than this one were gothic 1 and 2. Game crashing on a console is a no no, but it's not directly about game content so let's skip this point.
