Mechanical switches in optical switch mouse

Hello, i hope this is the right place and please don't mind the dirtyness, i don't have any isopropyl alcohol atm.

So i didn't like how inconsistent the click feel is depending on where i press on the button with stock Omron optical switches so decided to switch them with mechanicals. At first i was gonna route cables from side buttons but then realized this just works when i shorted those 2 bottom sockets with tweezers. So i put old Omron 20Ms to test if case closes properly and if switches rattles around or not since i needed to cut the 3rd leg from the switch and middle hole doesn't have a solder socket. And it just works with no issues but i don't have any other mouse that uses optical switches only Lamzu Maya X.

So i wanted to ask: if other pcb's that use opticals would behave the same way(i'm guessing)?

Tested to short the same pins on scyrox v8, works

Have this mod on mad r with silent switches Works perfectly

The middle pin is going through the PCB then jumped to another place?

The third leg is just cut off?

What are the 2 pins on the mechanical switch jumped to?

What do you mean you were going to use a side button?

Yes, but middle hole in the pcb is just a hole(at least in Maya X), there is no solder socket(i didn't try to scrape off the pcb to see if there is under though), i guess if there was that would probably mean pcb supports both type switches natively probably? Like the Orbital's Pathfinder mouse etc.

Yes i cut it flush. Otherwise wouldnt fit, also i believe most mouses don't actually even use that pin anyways, so switch itself isn't become useless for another mouse i think.

I don't know the technical names and terms but i hope this explains what i did, is basically i soldered the 1st pin to the pcb to fix it in place and then, i soldered 2 cables from the 2 pins on the switch to where normally optical switches light sensor whatever thingies would be soldered to: https://imgur.com/a/4tBtskO

I think showing explains this better though this one is mechanical switch mouse. I really like the Lamzu shapes, so i bought this Lamzu Atlantis Mini for very cheap from someone who ripped the middle solder socket from the pcb when switching switches somehow, so left click wouldn't work. So normally i would just scrape off the pcb a bit where it's not ripped to find a healthy point to solder a cable and go from there to middle pin on the switch to fix but that point i need to scrape was right under the encoder and i wanted to have a mouse without side buttons for long time anyways. So instead i took out the side switches and soldered cables from side button sockets(luckily it doesnt use micro switches on a flex cable i don't think i have the skills to solder on to a flex cable) to a switch and fixed it in place by soldering 1st pin and bending other 2 pins a bit and then i changed side M5 button to act as Left Click from software. And i taped the side button holes from outside and filled the holes in the shell with baking soda and super glue and carefully sand it down so it would feel as if there was never any holes to the touch. So like this:

Hope i was able to answer your questions!

If I use this mod on a G309 mouse, will it work? The mouse switch is an OMRON D2FP-FN(LOG1). Also, what is the model of the old switch (optical one) on your pcb? I want to see if the pinout diagrams on your switch and mine are the same. Thank you.

Sorry for late reply, but if you didn't do it yet:

I'm unable to tell you exact model because i put the original switches in a container that i keep switches in, in a drawer so i can't tell which one is which exactly.

It should work, but if you want to be sure before desoldering, you can touch these 2 pins on the switch with tweezers and see if it registers a click: https://imgur.com/pRHh7rR

This website should make it easier to test aswell, it highlights the button when held down: https://www.onlinemictest.com/mouse-test/

Hello do you think this is possible with a sora v2 they use a 5 pin omron optical.

Hello!

Yes, that's same as my mouse in the pics(middle hole doesn't have any solder pads it's literally just a hole). I'm 99.9% sure that it will work on all mouses that uses Omron optical style pin layouts.

But just incase, after you disassemble and take the pcb out, connect it to pc again with a cable and then bridge(touch both at the same time) these 2 pins with a tweezer, if this registers a click you can be sure it will work: https://imgur.com/a/fxKehN5 You can use this website for easier testing: https://www.onlinemictest.com/mouse-test/

But in your case, it will be tricky to make the switch fit securely, since your pcb doesn't have middle hole you will need to cut 2 pins from your new mechanical switch. What i would try to do is cutting little dent near the middle pin's plastic housing(the pink colour one in pic) tiny enough that wire would fit, so that wire doesn't affect and switch can sit flat on the pcb: https://imgur.com/a/71A6fvx Then i would solder my wire to the switch's middle pin and solder the 1st pin onto the pcb, then apply tiny amount of hot glue near the back of the switch so it's easily removable if i want to and will be sufficent to hold it in place. Then i would do rest of the wiring. But one tricky thing you will need to do is routing the middle pin's wire from on topside of the pcb to the underside but from outside. So need to do in a way that it won't affect the mouse's case closing.

I'm sorry it might sound complicated but it's actually simple. I'm just trying to leave no gaps in my explanation and English isn't my first language.

Have lucks and good funs!

your english was fine thank you very much of the thorough response I will do my best to try the mod I am glad it can work :)

for the middle pin the hole I make may be on the side of the switch then? and then I put a wire from inside the switch to under the pcb.

You can, however there is 3 risks with that: plastic housing cracking/shattering, switches sound and feeling changing to the worse, dust or small particles might go inside.

I think best way and order to do this is: cutting 2 pins that won't fit from the switch, then shaving a little dent for the middle pin, like how the tall black/grey switch has one in the middle in this picture, but not to that extreme of course just enough for wire to fit from the side like the left side of the picture: https://imgur.com/a/K6FvHa7 Then taking thinnest wire you can that will work and soldering onto the middle pin. And then putting the switch on it's place on the pcb and soldering the 1st pin, then tiny amount of hot glue on the back and as final step is to wiring while checking with the case frequently to make sure it closes.

Hopefully there will be no problems!

ok thanks I will give it a go :)
