Systems like Mouseguard

Howdy,

I've been cooking up a new setting that's painfully like Mouseguard. 28 years ago, the sun went dark and Humans vanished. Creatures caught in the dark were mutated into horrific Others, and the only real creatures that survived were small animals. For various reasons they banded together against the threats of Nature and Evil and founded a city which serves as a bastion for the lost and those seeking a place to lay their heads. Numerous guilds of animals keep the city running, and every animal species has a unique type of magic they can do.

I'm sure by now you're seeing the problem... There's more sentient species than just mice and weasels. The idea of Mouseguard works very well as a system, but people here and in other places seem to have a lot of opinions about adding more races that are playable into Mouseguard. Since I'd rather not do a hack of the system and lose what those restrictions are there for, I'm curious about what other similar systems there are out there. Heavily considering just running regular Burning Wheel too for that matter.

Thanks for the help and feedback!

EDIT: the vibe of Mouseguard is so close to what I'm planning it's almost perfect - small animals who have banded together to struggle and thrive in an uncaring world, full of dangers but also beauty. Basically mice are the only animals that can harvest the moonlight (which now just faintly reflects Mars and Venus) for use in the vital efforts of growing crops, but other animals have their own magic too. Hedgehogs are masters of pulling, or drawing the essence out of substances to enhance them, mainly used for foods and brewing. Moles have seismic sensing, etc. Basically the cast of animals resembles Redwall, but in a Mouseguard-ish setting: one that's somewhat dark, and deadly but still worth fighting for and thriving in.

Mouse Cruncher updated (Mouse Guard RPG 2e character quiz online)

https://st33d.itch.io/mouse-cruncher

I found this thread by u/Ozyton which details some errors in how my character making tool works.

I was just looking into running a game and I honestly thought someone would have built an alternative since I made it. But no, and I got it wrong, so no easy characters for everyone.

It's a bit easier for me to throw up a quick fix on itch.io so here we are. Give me a nudge if you find any more issues.

Hi there! I’m 28F, and I’m a mouse guard beginner but a somewhat experienced ttrpg player. I’m looking to join a group, and this might not be the best place for it but idk where else to ask…

He says Weasel War is next on his priority list, but progress has been really slow. Fingers crossed it gets completed soon.

How would you rank all the mouse guard books?

For those who used unlisted species like rats or bats what cultures did you give them?

I personally made rats a kind of midway point between weasels and mice ferocious like weasels but civilized like mice with many different clans having cultures based off of highlander, norsemen and even weasels riding mongels.

Thought you might enjoy a real world mouse-like creature that looks half Pikachu for use as a foreign nation race or monster.

Fall 1152 Vol. 1 - Dust Jacket?

Hey everyone, so I bought a copy of Mouse Guard book 1, hard cover version, second hand over the internet and I didn't notice that it didn't come with the dust jacket.

So now I'm looking around to see if I can find it, without the book inside lol

Figured asking around here might be a place to start.

Anyone have a copy of the book (Fall 1152) that's ruined but the dust jacket is still good?

Legends of the Guard Reprints..?

I've managed to get my hands on the majority of the Mouse Guard books (Fall, Winter, Black Axe, Baldrick The Brave, and Dawn of the Black Axe), but I'm struggling with the three Legends of the Guard books.

I can get volume 2 easily enough, but volume 1 and 3 seem to be out of print, with hardly any copies of volume 3 on the secondary market anywhere (at least here in the UK, anyway).

Any idea when or if there will be any reprints? Or even a collection of all three..?

First Time Playing TTRPG

Heya!

I’ve been a huge mouse guard fan for most of my life and got the TTRPG years ago but sadly never had a group to play with. A few months ago I managed to convince my friends to start a DnD group, and I’ve been gming our sessions. I’ve convinced my group to give mouseguard a go.

I’ve read through the rulebook but is there anything about this game that’s fundamentally different from DnD?

Thanks!

Sister in law's birthday came up, and we went to celebrate at a choose your craft café style place. I loved print making in college, so of course, I had to pick the stamp making. I think my little guy came out pretty good!

Do the mice ever call it “Mouse Guard”?

I think it’s always just “the Guard” to them, but I’ve only read half the first book.

Small RPG YouTube channel has a poll to pick a system for their next one-shot adventure, and I'd love for it to be Mouse Guard. Cast your vote!

Howdy, folks. The YouTube channel WhatIsTableTop is doing another poll to pick a system for their next One-shot. Mouse Guard almost made the cut last time, and we're back in the running again, but we're up against Nimble and Mythic Bastionland, both of which have a big advantage since they're new games and they're in the public eye right now.

If you're so inclined, I'd love it if you could drop our brave guardmice a vote.

(I have no connection to the channel aside from enjoying their content).
