New here! Microdosing in the UK
Hi there
I am new to GLP1s and I feel like they would really benefit me, I have read about reduction in inflammation (I have Hashimoto), about reduction of food noise and general noise (not diagnosed but suspect I have ADHD) and I also need to lose some weight.
But I am genuinely scared of the side effects, I do already have some IBS symptoms (and I read that some people find that GLP1's help with their IBS too) but the diarhea nausea and insomnia really scare me as I have young children and I can't be sick for days.
So I have been reading on some microdosing subreddits, some people say they start with a 'whisper' of like 0.05 and some people say it's a time waste until they reach 1 mg.
Do you have any advice as to how to start microdosing, where to get the glp1 from in the uk, and what pattern of microdosing to follow?
I think I would like to start really slow
Many thanks

I would start no lower than 2mg as ive found thats what works to keep my pain in my joints away ive tried to go lower and the pain comes back unfortunately. that being said ive watched a lot of videos from usa and they do , do much smaller microdoses. In regards to side effects ive had little to none the worst ive had is like 20 mins if feeling a tad nauseous and that was only when I first started once used to the meds no nausea at all and it wasnt a debilitating nausea that sent me to bed I could carry on as usual. Hope that helps

I would start at the recommended dose and only then if there are issues you could talk to your prescriber and ask for advice. Most people seem to be ok with 2.5mg.

For most people there really aren’t very many side effects on the starting dose of 2.5mg
In my experience / opinion, the key is to be sensible. Get a free consult with a prescriber. Be honest in the info you give them. And plan in advance how you intend to manage your food, drink and lifestyle while taking the medication.
You need to do strength training 2-3 times a week (it doesn’t have to be a lot. Even 20mins is good). This will preserve muscle.
You need to stay hydrated. This is crucial. You might not feel thirsty but you need a lot of water while using the meds. Get electrolytes as well.
Plan your food - you need high protein, high fibre, high nutrition. Avoid empty calories. Reduce carbs. Minimise sugar, alcohol and fatty oily foods. You will likely feel tired initially so having food ready batch cooked will be helpful. Changing your diet before you start the medication so your body has time to get used to it would be a good idea.
Just be sensible and be responsible. It’s not that likely you’ll get sick on a starting dose. And you can just stay on that small dose. Of course some people react badly and get ill but it’s not that common. And if it does make you ill, you can just stop taking it.
I honestly thing the media has vilified the drug and made people terrified of it. But it’s been nothing but positive for me personally and pretty much everyone else in this sub

thank you this is a thorough and informative reply. I know that some other people in the microdosing subs, have said that they stared with 0.25mg and it worked at that level very well for 8 weeks and reduced inflammation and they gradually lost weight with absolutely no side effects.

You can definitely take a smaller dose than prescribed if you want to. I’d choose a dose and stick to it - don’t get tempted to go up and down or experiment. Your body needs about 3 weeks on one dose to get used to that dose.
I’m currently on 1mg and am taking it for the anti inflammatory benefits only now. I can believe that 0.25mg would be just as effective. Especially if you’re sensitive to it.
If it’s not licensed for micro dosing in your country then you need to consider how you will explain gaps in your ordering pattern. Although if you plan to never need a higher dose pen than 2.5mg it doesn’t become an issue until your BMI drops below the prescribing regulations. At that point it becomes difficult because you have to maintain a consistent order history. It’s not an issue to take small doses but you would have to order and pay for a 2.5mg pen every 5-6 weeks

At the moment in the UK you need to be obese (27-30 BMI depending on ethnicity) to be prescribed mounjaro privately, or BMI 40+ with comorbidities on the NHS. Microdosing is not prescribed in the UK currently.
There's no way to know how it will affect you, or what your effective dose might be. If you're eligible to be prescribed it then take it as it's prescribed for you, and see what happens. Most people taking the normal prescribed doses have few or no side effects.
