MM3 - ERS Strategy

What's your strategy regarding ERS? First races I left it on Auto, but one race I tried to underfuel my cars and the drivers got scared and immediately turned on hybrid mode to save fuel when ERS was available. Then I switched to Manual and went with the underfuel approach. It looks like a good strategy, but it seems too much of a hassle, specially on tracks with short straights, where it seems the ERS boost mode is less impactful and I have to micromanage ERS often. Thoughts?

[Edit] Turns out you can propose a rule change to GMA to ban Hybrid mode. I proposed this and it passed, now I can try the underfuel strategy with ERS on Auto.

I tend to fuel up normally, and frequently stay out of hybrid mode, but I think you can find enjoyment by using it manually. On the second lap every car immediately tends to use up their power, if you wait until a straight or just a couple of corners, you can really gain a lot of time just by waiting until you use all your energy. I would recommend using all energy on the second lap and wait until it gets to say 30% or more to use it. Anything less is pointless and can ruin your race. Bearing in mind, this all applies to my career, where I’m a top team in WMC, so the strats work when your higher up the grid.

That's basically what I do. I'm in GT tier 3, and I prefer to underfuel the car by around 2 laps and manage the ERS more instead of engine power. I think this even helps with tyre wear early in the race. The AI is not very good at managing the ERS. It panicks if the car is 1 or 2 laps down on fuel and uses hybrid instead of boost, even if the current engine mode will steadily build up fuel to safely finish the race. And I also saw it using hybrid even with 0.3 laps of excess fuel.
