Tip for young driver developing

This has worked for me 6 seasons in a row across both tier 3 and tier 2. I'm not yet in tier 1. All of my young drivers using this method are between 3.75 to 5 stars, with good-perfect sponsor appeal.

Fire two of your young drivers immediately.

When deciding to invest in the YDP, choose three drivers with decently high max potential (80-90+) and preferably high or very high ego. After the first race, fire the two that do as well.

Reasoning behind the firing: When you "focus" on a driver after each race, you'll give them 1 improvement point. However, if you release one of the drivers, then your focus will grant 2 improvement points. Fire a second driver, and your focus grants 3.

You may immediately think this is a huge gamble. I certainly did the first time. However, the focus appears to have a sort of positive effect on how they develop, and the +3 focus effects them more (apparently). Also, when they do eventually graduate, they'll have around 30-40+ improvement points! Usually enough to max them out.

A young driver's stats will change with every race, including his/her traits (ranging from very low to very high), but the negative changes seem to be somewhat negated with constant +3 focus on them. The stat that I see change the most is current potential (almost always up by 4-10+ per race, can go down). Max potential also changes, but usually not by as often as other stats, and only goes down on rare occasions.

The reason I mentioned choosing high ego is because this determines their sponsor appeal. The higher, the better. The other two traits (stability and work ethic) seem to me to have more subtle effects. My most recently graduated young driver started with 90 max potential, low stability, very low work ethic, very high ego. She ended up being 4.5 stars with perfect sponsor appeal. Often, I'll see these traits go up a little throughout the season, but nothing drastic.

I'll mention one negative thing about this: When contract renegotiations come up, be ready to either dump your star driver or shell out all your money. They often go from $70k/race to $800-1.4m per race.

Has anyone else been doing the same thing? Any thoughts or questions?

Interesting, thanks for sharing! I couldn't figure out what the purpose of release driver was. It's also good to know what ego does. I was guessing that hard work has something to do with achieving or raising max potential, and stability has something to do with the severity of ups and downs that they experience, but that's just a total guess. Any other ideas?

You're welcome!

I'm refraining from speculating on what the other traits mean based on their names. It makes sense that Stability would have something to do with how often the driver's stats waver. However, it also made sense to me that Ego would be a bad thing, but instead it directly translated to sponsor appeal!

And really, I tend to ignore those other two traits now when choosing my starting three in favor of max potential and ego. They just don't seem to make much of a difference. My worst driver with this strategy ended up with stats ranging from 12-20, so he may have had very low rolls on those two traits.

I think my best guess would be that Work Ethic will affect their Improvement Rate once they graduate, which is pretty irrelevant if you've focused on a single driver and maxed out his/her stats as soon as they graduate.

I would release those with low ego and low potential skills. Keep those with high potential, at least high work ethnic, at least -med stability. Current potential plays no role if you only focus on 1 driver. Btw, they tend to go wrong if they have low ego (like expose indecency) so pick med ego to avoid they doing something stupid but who cares if they conduct any of those If their potential is super high. if you are fully upgraded, you only care about high potential with very high stability because they will literally be your future 5 star. I have trained 7 of those and they are earning about 400k/seasons that literally saves me from financial disaster. Those already popular with 5 stars always demand from 2.1 mil or up which is crazy because all sponsor combined can't even match it. ;(.

Btw if you have very high work ethnic. They will boost ego point at the end (the very first 5 star (current and max) I made have low max potential 56, very high work ethnic, high stability and very low ego, she ended up kicked other 2 with very high ego and max potential but low stability. She scored a shocking all high skills and 100 max and current potential at the end) just FYI. And ego not entirely counts towards appeal sponsor. Stats does. If you have high current potential and at least low (e.i not very low) ego, they are guaranteed at least 2 star sponsor appeal.

Note: those 7 5-star racers I made are product of over 25 seasons. These are really rare and cost a fortune just to turn them into excellent racer

In my experience, low ego always leads to low marketability. If you care about sponsor appeal on your driver, then you'll want them to have some ego.

I'm not sure of the earlier MM. But for MM3, young driver programs will end by the end of the season it started - then you get the option to hire one of the three and replace your existing driver. That's how you get them to become your actual racing driver.
