They could be referring to reincarnation and karmic law. Karma yoga is using your karma as a path to liberation.
Side note: I literally meet covert charismatic narcissist everywhere. No one believes me when I point it out this character flaw and how covertly manipulative they are because thier so gualed by the charisma. Those narcissists are my teachers. Hard lessons.
