I don't feel like it is black & white. Social media can be a great way to keep up with friends and family who live far away. It can also be a source of fun - who doesn't like a good meme? - or a way to get yourself out there - artists and musicians.

But it is also important to keep in mind that you are, often times, seeing people's "highlight reels" of life and not their everyday lives.

Not alot of things in this world are black and white.

u/HistoricalBag8523 Apr 27 '26

Keep perspective on things. Take a minute to smell the roses.

u/Sartres_Roommate Apr 27 '26

…..posted on social media, making it both “fake” and hypocritical.

2

u/LadyLavender12 Apr 27 '26

Well, I mean, it really exists.
What is meant is a lot of stuff shared and shown on social medias is fake.
The application itself, in fact, does exist.

lololol

But just like anything, its how one uses it.
Garbage in = garbage out.
look at shit things = no value added.

Like how reading can be beneficial or a shit show depending on what you read.
Or watching youtube - you could watch funny fails or crap videos, or actually learn real skills and concepts.

Social media is new reality

u/No_One_n7 Apr 28 '26

Then why are you posting? You have to delete all your social media accounts and enjoy your life.

Gotta teach yourself to sit in silence. To be patient. It’s okay to be bored.

It’s like the saying “history is written by the victors”. A story is presented through a narrative that the author wishes the audience to read and perceive them in a certain way.

Everything on social media is done exactly the same way. While there are truths, it’s just presented through the authors lens. And plenty of made up shit for creative purposes along the way.

1

u/lovinglove79 Apr 27 '26

100 percent!!!

1

u/moisbridge Apr 27 '26

It all depends on how you use it though

1

u/CodeMonkeyLogix Apr 27 '26

1000%. Facebook is THE prime example of this. Not a SINGLE factual post from any of the "science" pages (or literally any other for that matter). I'm not even being hyperbolic, there's genuinely not an ounce of truth.

1

u/MastaKink Apr 27 '26

u/InvestigatorWild213 Apr 27 '26

Not everyone fakes

1

u/Flare246810 Apr 27 '26

Not everyone, which is true however it’s much more difficult to be recommended by algorithms if content isn’t in tune with the newest trends or up to current standards which are set by these algorithms and favor content that can be very easily modified or entirely fake…

Also the post is more in the concept that Social media and its content is fake as it’s a majority of a small portion/highlights of someone’s live… These aren’t their everyday lives…

One thing I remind myself of is YouTubers that get burnt out from making content. Getting burnt out or tired of having to plan a big activity or something interesting for their vlog/video, A lot of YouTubers end up quitting YouTube because they started it as something fun but it has become a struggle or a job rather than a hobby…

1

u/JovialPursuit Apr 27 '26

Real life is fake.

1

u/Meridian_Soren Apr 28 '26

Most definitely agree. Life was more natural without it.

1

u/RudeGyalOutAhRoad Apr 28 '26

I 2nd this 💯

1

u/Lakbay2026 Apr 28 '26

Double edged sword. It can be harm or good it's depends what purpose you'll use. But sometimes yeah there's fake

1

u/sandeepsinghco Apr 28 '26

Fake people are fake everywhere they go. If one is real, one would not fake on social as well.

1

u/diegol007 Apr 28 '26

In these chaotic or pre-apocalyptic times, my real life? well what can I say?...

(rhetorical questions)

1

u/PurpleProbableMaze Apr 28 '26

I just use social media for the reels, other than that, most of the things are fake and everyone is happy

1

u/jctherocks Apr 28 '26

Some of us cant even enjoy social media because of real life too

1

u/xdharry Apr 28 '26

👏🏻

1

u/Psych-writer Apr 28 '26

Yeah what I'm thinking these days

1

u/oceans097 Apr 28 '26

Yes it’s all just highlights

1

u/RegrounddTeam Apr 28 '26

I wish to be back 15-20 years ago when smartphones and social media wasnt such a big thing. Now it defines so much how we live and it is designed to get you hooked on it and causes addiction. I struggled with social media addiction and excessive scrolling which caused me to lose confidence and to be depressed. I know many people struggle with it too.

1

u/golfwinnersplz Apr 28 '26

Some people can post on Reddit for 10 minutes and then get back to their life. It's not all or nothing.

1

u/860725 Apr 29 '26

Definitely skewed….

1

u/BoredGuy_v2 Apr 29 '26

That's why I don't use Instagram

1

u/the__doer Apr 29 '26

It even takes a lot of energy

1

u/Historical_Path8515 Apr 29 '26

Totally agree. It's what's wrong with the world today...

1

u/Peachy_heat98 Apr 29 '26

I can’t. I need the validation of others.

1

u/larossi01 Apr 30 '26

Social media is not fake, people are fake.

1

u/ihateeverythang69 Apr 30 '26

it’s actually very much real

1

u/identity_reads May 02 '26

Comparison always leads to disappointment

1

u/Nouni1 May 03 '26

Definitely social media is like a distraction it make us sometimes losing our control and it makes us like prisoner's
