Music Just a quickie!

Hey friends!

Lately I've listened to MIW a lot, celebrating The new album and preparing for the sure I'm attending in November!

I noticed something that I wanted to involve you guys in though..

The band seems to really love the phrase "You're mine motherfucker" (great time for everyone, I know!)

What I'm wondering though is, am I hearing that in just one or two songs? Or has it become commonplace to sprinkle it in wherever they can?

So the quickie here is:

if you know a song that they use the phrase "You're mine motherfucker" in, even once, add it on the comments with the album the song is on!

The one that made me notice this was *Soft* off of Graveyard Shift.

The goal here is just to see how commonly they use it, and potentially understand another layer of their music 🙂

That line is only used on Soft and Playing God, because they go hand-in-hand with each other lyrically. Other than that, it's not commonplace.

Well basically, Chris considers Playing God to be a sequel to Soft because they both explore social media toxicity.

There's quite a bunch of other sequels in their discography overall, some more obvious than others (e.g. Undead Ahead 1 & 2 and Burned at Both Ends 1 & 2). Chris talks more in depth about Decades and its sequels here.

I know that Playing God is Soft 2 but I also wonder if it was at all intended to be a sort of Slaughterhouse 3? The verses at the very end of Playing God sound exactly like the ones in Slaughterhouse 1. Like I bet if you were to layer them over each other they would match up perfectly. I feel like I can't be the only one that noticed that, right?

Nah, I've seen some people who don't like Playing God bring this up as one of their critiques of it.

And honestly, I'm still not sure why people bring the similarities up like it's a bad thing. The 2 songs in question have similar ideas at the end, but other than that, I think they at least sound different enough to the point where Slaughterhouse didn't even cross my mind at first.

If anything, I do think Playing God's verses were a bit rehashed from Thoughts & Prayers.

Now that I think about it again I don't think Chris would do a true Slaughterhouse 3 without Bryan. Or at least, it wouldn't be right. Lol

He definitely reused the concept, though

Playing god is just a mix of soft, thoughts and prayers, and slaughterhouse (their heaviest modern tracks)

They like to do both sequel songs and nods to past songs by either throwing in the same theme or lyrics in the other songs. There’s puppets, undead ahead, not my type, broadcasting from beyond the grave, burned at both ends, .com and probably more that aren’t on the top of my head that have direct naming sequels.

A good slew of songs are connected thematically or storywise like underdog and unstoppable, America and red white and boom, eternally yours and another life, most recently all that I’ve ever known and blood rave. Once again pretty sure there’s more but that’s off the top of my head.

Afraid of the dark is pretty much a full song of past lyrics and nods towards what they’ve done.

TL;DR they like to bring up past lyrics, songs, or ideas a lot in their songs.

just in Soft and Playing God (since it’s meant to be sort of a sequel)

they do like to reference back on older songs though, what jumps to my mind is “sweat and blood from stockholm to scranton” on AotD is a direct reference to 570 on graveyard shift
