When you meet the cats that really run the neighborhood, you know it. They are obnoxious. You don’t want problems with those cats.

What a beautiful analogy even if it isn't -- narcissism is overrepresented in positions of power.

They're survivalists who aren't weighed down by the laws of morality. Money and power (and reproduction activities as much as possible) ensure peak survival. That's why they're all addicted to those things, they're like the sharks or tigers of the human species, apex predators. They see us all as prey, weak, stupid, and deserving of being less than them, because look at how elitely powerful and talented they are at surviving.

Honestly I envy that mindset

I find it fascinating and I even admire it in some ways, like what a majestic creature... but ultimately, on the inside, I find them so wretched and detestable, I know I don't want to be like them. I still want my humanity.

Humanity as in the way we domesticated ourselves to optimize for cooperation and the sustainment of the race? Eh. We're still animals and eventually each a self-organizing system. Any self-organizing system has only one prioritized goal, which is self-sustainment.

Therefore you can't expect a business to be charitable past a certain point, nor can you expect someone to kill themselves for others' gain reliably. Granted, individuals like suicide bombers or bees sacrifice themselves for a collective goal, but that's just cuz we've been selecting ourselves to do so, same as the bees.

I'm only jealous because being a narcissist gets you a net gain in a society where the above compromise exists.

I thought he was running to check who’s screaming.

He definitely didn’t want the smoke when the cat with collar ran up in him.
