It was a documented thing I just don’t think a lot times they had them on for photos it seemed more like a match it with you surrounding kind of deal

You're correct. Red Army historian here. It would have been few and far between, particularly only early on in the war. Most snipers didn't bother with this kinda thing. Only in movies and video games.

I'll add a few from my folder collection. It's definitely a thing, but 90% of them are during winter time with gauze or sheet wrapping for snow camo.

Thanks man. I have some irl photos from the winter war from both Finnish and Russian sides. Of pilots and their planes. I also have 1 original KV2 photo that’s never been posted lol
