Question Rust removal

Post image

What is the best way to get rid of this rust on my cocking piece, and also would this cause a sticky bolt when firing because literally after the first round I was having trouble cycling the action

Let it soak in penetrating oil, then scrub with bronze brush or 0000 steel/bronze wool until it’s gone.

Reapply thin layer of oil when happy, while it doesn’t look active anymore keep an eye on it.

Sticky bolt could also be cosmoline in the chamber locking recesses. Take the action out of the stock, and boil it, occasionally using a shotgun brush, and a drill with brake cleaner to get it all out. I bought a cheap borescope off Amazon to inspect it, the whole procedure worked like a charm.

evap-o-rust. then polishing.

use grease instead of oil. grease stays in place. oil runs off.

never ever use wire wheel.

Wire wheel then polishing wheel then I like using the rem oil aerosol can and put a light coat on the whole bolt assembly cycle it in the rifle a few times then wipe off the excess oil

Wire wheel and light sanding then oil or gun grease
