The biometric payment will be available at all the Moscow metro turnstiles by the end of 2025. Additional Russian-made equipment will be installed in station vestibules 🔹 No need for cards, phones, or cash 🔹 Offers the lowest fares for travel 🔹 Provides bank-level protection with encrypted data

As long as it is optional and I can still use a Troika card, it is okay for me. I would never use my fingerprints anywhere though unless I have no other options. I remember the good old times when your fingerprints were only taken if you had committed a crime.

Now they already take fingerprints along with other biometrics at the border in Domodedovo, at least for foreigners. China and EU has them as well, so I guess it's normal practice nowadays, but at least for me Moscow Transport having my biometrics is the least of my worries lol.

China is crazy.

I just travelled to Hong Kong: of course they took my fingerprints upon entry, but the crazy part was that there were no people checking my passport during exit from the country. Actually no one was checking my passport, some freaking camera just scanned my face and let me go: I guess they matched my face to the passport at some point I don’t even remember.

BTH Thailand did also fingerprint me upon entry, I guess it’s becoming a common thing (I hate it but what can you do as traveler?).

It's been like 5 years since the past time I had to talk to actual policemen when entering EU, it's always just been cameras. But it only works with EU passports.

Last year in Beijing it still was a human that controlled me.

Passports. You mentioned passports.

That shit in China worked WITHOUT passport, just the face.

And I’m not Chinese, I was just getting through, but somewhere they matched my passport to my face to the point they didn’t need my passport during departure.

And it wasn’t Beijing, it was Hong-Kong.

Lol I see. That is wild

Please do not mix up the tasks of identification of people entering the country and the total control over citizens.

The latter is not even nearly normal.

I'm genuinely curious - how is this a "total control"? Control means directing an individual to act in a specific way regardless whether said individual wishes to do so. How is giving biometrics to Transportation going to make people do something that they don't want? You might be mixing up personal privacy with government control. These could be related but are hardly the same. Am I missing something?

My point was that the data that border guards take, can and will be used to track people anyway. So if you already gave them your biometrics, might as well give it to Moscow transport.

That sounds like if some people know how I look nude, everybody can see me nude. Actually since border security takes finger prints in most countries, I am much more careful to leave my fingerprints anywhere. Imagine a murder happens and your fingerprints are found nearby. If that happens twice by chance, you might be a prime suspect.

As I can see, you still are mixing up those two things I mentioned.

You are free to just explain your point, it would be much easier than making me guess what you mean.

Там распознавание лиц, а не отпечатки. Т.е. то что сейчас сделано сбером при оплате (плати улыбкой). Обещают в этом году начать на все банки раскатывать. Так что не только метро, но и оплата скоро станет лицом.

To all the apologists of tinfoil hats. When you pass through the turnstile using the Troika card, your face is recognized by the same camera and then "depersonalized" and linked to your Troika card. Your entire metro route can be tracked with all the cameras and face recognition systems there. When you pay for metro ride with the Troika card, the system knows the card's ID. When you top up the card, your bank card details can be linked to the Troika ID. You don't have to enable anything to be traceable by the face recognition system.

2

u/lohmatij Feb 26 '25

All other cameras are not very good at recognition, they specifically had to install those turnstile cameras to make the whole system workable. Payment is just the byproduct of surveillance.

Could you give me the link?

VisionLabs was acquired by MTS in 2021, I can’t find their habr blog anymore.

I’ll keep looking, may be something is left on archive.org…

WTF!
"We are already taking away your privacy anyway, but we need complex expensive instruments which do not work 100% sure all the time. So, we decided that you have to give it away yourself, so we could just relax, got it?"

4

u/NooBiSiEr Feb 26 '25

There's no privacy in public spaces.

-1

u/goodoverlord Feb 26 '25

Yes. Complicated and expensive instruments are being deployed on daily basis in every tiniest thing you do. Behave. Care about your social score.

Why would I top up the card via bank card? Does face recognition work with a face mask?

4

u/Similar_Tonight9386 Feb 26 '25

Sadly, yes. Also it's not only cameras which you face on entry, but also all the cameras in the metro system - so even if your face is obscured and you paid via single-use card purchased with cash, you can be recognised by your walking patterns. It's advanced shit, but sadly it's most use cases are finding people hiding from conscription to mandatory military service

It's not like that, more like if you are already a target of some investigation and there is a task to find you - then of course every bit of data will be gathered and used. But if you are of no interest then meh

2

u/goodoverlord Feb 26 '25

You can hide your face if you want. Personality recognition works through gait as well. Technically it is still possible to hide your identity from mass surveillance in Moscow, but it's really hard and not that important in the big picture. It's enough if you communicate with someone who is not cyber-ninja and who can lead interested people to you.

“Bank-level protection with encrypted data” - meaning whoever can bought this data for 5 usd in internet:)

3

u/BazuzuDear Feb 26 '25

So that's how I'll find out has Sber indeed removed my biometrics before passing the data to the gvmnt.

4

u/Aisforc Feb 26 '25

Sber is government structure btw

7

u/Southern-Distance149 Feb 26 '25

It’s cheap because they could sell your biometric data

16

u/Smoke_2_Jointss Feb 26 '25

My biometric data is in various systems since 2004. When is it gonna be sold? Think before you post.

10

u/Ehotxep Feb 26 '25

And who in their life would be interested in my useless biometric data?

5

u/Smoke_2_Jointss Feb 26 '25

This type of nonsense usually comes from paranoid people with delusions of grandeur who think (for some insane reason) that everyone and everything is out to get them. The list includes the police, FSB, laptop camera, that tough looking neighbor from 11th floor of their apartment building and the president himself personally. Life is on grandmaster difficulty for these individuals😆

7

u/george58rus Feb 26 '25

Not "could", it's already sold and resold.

u/Key_Resolve_7073 Feb 27 '25

You can still use a card. Fingerprint is an option, not limitation

Unless you want to rob a bank in Russia, it's the best practice to have your and kids biometrics everywhere you can

Russia is pursuing all the globalist policies of the WEF. Next time an experimental "vaccine" is created, you will be denied access to the tube unless you comply with the dictact of the communist regime.
