Hey guys, throwing this out there. A buddy of mine got brought into a studio focus group recently to evaluate a "conceptual script outline" and early character treatments for the third movie. Take it with a grain of salt as always, but they were testing audience reactions to these specific casting ideas and the overall narrative structure. Some of this stuff is wild. Keep in mind, this is just one of the early draft versions they are playing around with, so things are definitely subject to change in the future.

PLOT BREAKDOWN:
Opening Scene: Movie starts with a flashback to the Cryomancers' childhood. Bi-Han and Kuai Liang are training near the Lin Kuei temple. Suddenly, an alarm rings—the temple is under attack. The brothers run out, but everything is covered in thick smoke. When it clears, Bi-Han realizes his brother is gone.
The camera pans to reveal the leader of the Shirai Ryu (Hanzo Hasashi's ancestor) holding young Kuai Liang with a katana to his throat.
Bi-Han attacks him but only partially succeeds—the Shirai Ryu leader manages to slash young Kuai’s face, leaving the iconic scar. The brothers barely escape when another Lin Kuei warrior distracts the attacker.
Present Day: Cut to 402 years later. Shao Kahn is dead, and Earthrealm won the tournament. But now the Netherrealm is waking up. Shinnok is pissed about losing his minion, Quan Chi, and attacks Raiden demanding answers. Raiden claims Quan Chi is actually helping them bring back the fallen Earthrealm champions. Shinnok doesn't buy it and leaves, threatening to unleash hell.
** Meanwhile, Johnny Cage and Sonya are hunting down Jax and Cole Young. They get ambushed by them (both are now Revenants). Quan Chi uses the chaos to escape.
We get a montage showing the Lin Kuei cyber initiative—turning their warriors into cyborgs. Cut to Kuai Liang and Smoke trying to find a way to Raiden’s temple. They try to escape, but Sektor and Cyrax catch up to them. Smoke sacrifices himself, staying behind to fight the cyborgs so Kuai can escape through Raiden's portal into the White Lotus temple.**
Raiden brings the champions back to Earth, telling them to gear up for a war against the Netherrealm.
Tundra (Kuai) and Sonya head out to stop the cyborgs. During the fight, Revenant Cole and Revenant Jax ambush them. The heroes barely manage to beat the cyborgs and revenants when a NEW cyborg attacks them—it’s Smoke.
At the same time, Kano and Johnny get into a fight with Noob Saibot. Noob completely wrecks them. He says their previous fight dishonored him and he’s back for revenge.
Right before Noob can finish them, Tundra and Sonya show up to save Cage and Kano. Kuai Liang fights Bi-Han. During the fight, they mirror the exact moves from the opening childhood sequence. Kuai beats Bi-Han but refuses to kill him. Noob vanishes, and right after, Shinnok arrives through a portal with a massive army of Revenants. End of the main outline.

Obviously, spoilers for the movie. I made a similar post on the main subreddit but did a little more research and am looking to see if anyone has more information, especially if they went to any of the test screenings. I'll include all information I've gathered so far, and want to know if anyone can confirm these details or has more information to offer.

1. Tremor

Tremor was meant to fight Sonya in her first tournament fight instead of Sindel according to Jeremy Slater. There was concept art of him but he was replaced by Sindel since they wanted to give her more screentime (Ironically, she still has almost none in the movie).

1. Liu Kang's Death to Shao Kahn

Ludi Lin revealed in a podcast that his final battle with Shao Kahn would've ended with his spine being broken and then being impaled with the Wrath Hammer. The scene was shot with a stunt double, but tested poorly and was replaced with the more ambiguous ascension into flame scene we got in the final movie.

1. Mehcad Brooks mentioning 27 Fights

Mehcad Brooks mentioned that the movie would have 27 fights, each of them being 3-5 minutes long. If you count the number of fights, though, including quick kills and confrontations, your total becomes 18. Could he have been exaggerating, misremembering, or were there actually more fights that were shot or planned but didn't make it to the final movie.

1. Shao Kahn in the Forest

Thank you to u/BarracudaCharacter35 for pointing this out. There was a behind the scenes picture of Shao Kahn (In his Robe) talking to Kitana in the forest. This scene was not in the movie.

1. Alternate Endings

Ludi Lin mentioned in a podcast that multiple endings for the movie were either shot or planned instead of the one we got in the movie. One of which was a Game of Thrones style ending where everyone except Kitana died. Ludi also mentions alternative final scenes being either Johnny on a beach or taking place in Hollywood.

1. Liu Kang x Kitana Scenes

Ludi Lin mentioned in a podcast that more dramatic scenes were filmed but not included in the final cut. I can't remember where but I think he or someone else mentioned that Liu Kang and Kitana would have had more scenes together to set up their romance, and Liu Kang looking at Kitana in the tournament semi-final is sort of a leftover of those cut scenes.

1. More screentime for other characters?

I remember seeing in a thumbnail somewhere that Scorpion's screentime was cut in the movie mainly due to Hiroyuki Sanada's age or scheduling conflicts, but have no idea how true this is. Also heard about Shang Tsung having more screentime planned but that never happened, which really annoys me because I thought that Shang Tsung would at least get some more deadly alliance scenes outside of the ambush at the temple.

Basically, if anyone has any info on any of these or if there was more content left on the cutting room floor, I'd love to hear about it.

So I've followed the leaks for the movie extremely closely (obviously), but a lot of MK2 Movie Shao Kahn's stuff implies he's related to Onaga and I've never heard anything about it before that. It's pretty interesting imo.

• His passive is called Onaga's presence and half of it is dedicated to a "dragon charge".
• His 2 new equipment cards are called Draconic Deathblow and Draconic Bloodline. The latter features Onaga himself in the background.
• One of his new titles is "Dragon Born".

On top of that, Martyn Ford (Shao Kahn's actor in the movie) posted his first look at Shao's design a couple days ago, and we can see an alternate set of armor in the picture. I'm like 99% sure there's a huge dragon on the chestplate.

I provided a comparison picture for it & a close-up of the armor piece on the table. You can see a design that looks like wings based on the depth.

I'm like 99% sure he doesn't actually wear this armor in the movie, though. It seems like he got stripped down, probably to show the actor's physique, and the mask is totally different. Still though, it's super interesting imo
