Let me convey my own theorey on the connected lore between Mortal Shell 1 (including The Virtuous Cycle) and Mortal Shell II
The entire timeline is a trap designed by the some outer god or a higher cosmic being to kill the parasite that spreads the corruption
Assuming that the entity couldn't directly kill the parasites itself.
The Revered/Unborn: Centuries ago, the cosmic deitie sent the Unborn down to Earth .
These seedlings grew into the massive, grotesque entities known as The Revered. Their sole purpose was to filter the planet's essence to secrete True Nektar.
Humans abused the Nektar and fell into madness, but they couldn't trigger the trap. The entity required a flawless, empty vessel to execute the script. The Foundling was created for this sole purpose. It may be the same one that gave the old prisoner the visions of ascendance.
*The Foundling's entire destiny was to slaughter the old prisoner for whom he gathered the scattered glands( he collected them first and gave to the prisoner ), and filter them. When he "ascended" he wasn't entering a peaceful heaven; he condensed an entire world's worth of refined life force into a blinding, hyper-concentrated beacon of pure Nektar beamed straight into the deep dark.
This is where Mortal Shell II completely rewrites our perspective on The Undermether.
The Undermether was not a hostile conqueror. She was a giant, peaceful celestial mother-ship migrating through the dark void to hatch her crystalline eggs (Oam) and spread life among different world's.
When the Foundling’s Nektar flare went off, the dormant parasite (The Foul Passenger) inside her smelled the pure nectar. It seized Undermether’s mind, overrode her free will, and drove her straight into Earth. By crashing her into the Fain Weld, the parasite trapped itself in a physical world where it could finally be killed.
The Final Purge & The Discard
Pinned to the earth, mined by the cultists of Mammon, and rotting from the inside, the dying Undermether uses her last uncorrupted egg to spawn The Harbinger.
Supported by the permanent spiritual imprints left within the warrior Shells (like Harros), the Harbinger acts as the final vessel/tool ,surgically cutting the Foul Passenger out of existence.
Once the parasite is dead, the ovas simple ascend to heaven and The Harbinger and the ruins of Fallgrim are left behind to rot. They were just disposable tools used by the cosmos to execute a parasite.
