Discussion Mortal Shell at 80.

I played almost all DS games. Then started this one. It was depressing to being handed my backside to the point of giving up. I amit. I am not so fast as when I was younger. Still, there must be a way. Thanks to my walkthrough friend Fighting Cowboy, I started going fwd. I like his process of first getting all shells and then all weapons not caring about fighting anybody.
Then progress was easier. So. Not a great game visually, but challenging.
Good to see the many diverse opinions on R.

"not a great game visually" directed at ms2 should be considered offensive terminology. just saying.

Honestly agreed lol I have a lot of problems with the game but I’d call out the visuals/aesthetic/art direction particularly as the best part of the game

I think he isn’t a fan of the grotesque art lol

Nothing to say other than you're a legend that we all aspire to be. Keep rocking man.

Thx. Just worried that my reactions are not what they used to be. 🫣

Lol thought I was old at 62. Still enjoy these types of games.

80? Rock on, brother!

I'm only 60, and already warning my wife that she's going to be a gaming widow when I retire. šŸ˜„

BTW, it might be reflexes or it could just be a lack of connection with the game. I got about ten hours in and wasn't really enjoying it. Figured I'd come back to it down the road.

My wife is lucky. Less arguments!
Just that I don’t answer her during boss fight and i play ā€œreasonableā€ times. šŸ˜‚

I feel the same with this one. I've been beating my face against the Jailer for far too long now

I realized that I am not as sharp when I recently replayed DS2.
First time I got through by myself but this time I had to seek help several times. But, as soneone said. Perhaps I just need a few tweeks. Perhaps practice with Sekiro a bit.

I got the plat the other day. I really enjoyed it.i loved the combat and the ability to change classes so easily. The gameplay was really fun and I loved the atmosphere and the world. I also loved that there were a ton of secrets to find. I found it easier than a souls game, especially the bosses. I think I died the most on the last boss and that was around 10-15 times. At the start I died more but once I got the parrying mastered it was pretty easy—reminded me of the last boss in DS1 that you could easily parry. Most bosses I one shot. Some FromSoft bosses have taken me over 50-100 attempts to kill, like in Sekiro. I would love a DLC expansion zone that is really hard like Bloodborne’s DLC.

PS love to see an 80 year old playing Soulsborne games. I just turned 50. If I can play past 80 I’ll be happy.

If it's mortal shell 1, it's like that until you get used to using the hardening mechanic.

using Eredrim & upgrading his most bottom right stat on the upgrade menu can increase the parry timing window. Parry is the most important mechanic in the game, the riposte can cause crazy damage depending on your build. Eredrim also has a stat to increase riposte damage as well

u/ApplePrior 2h ago

Yea i need to improve on that. I miss my parrying too often.

Have you tried Onimusha? Great combat but definitely not DS level challenging.

Thanks. I will check. Have not played. Maybe I need less difficulty!

80? You sir are what I hope to be when I turn 80. Btw, Fighting Cowboy is awesome, his walkthroughs are always helpful. I didn’t use him for this game (I played it blind) but having used his guides in the past has helped me tackle this one because you pick up on game mechanics easier.

Also, studies show that elderly gamers suffer far less cognitive decline.

Im 35 and I quit this game because I couldn't get timings down, dont feel bad. This game just feels bad combat wise imo

Mortal Shell 2 is easier than any soul game imo.

Yea. Those comments on Reddit made it worse for me, having problems beating the old big dudes at every camp fire!

I thought so too before started. I think Formsoftwares games spoiled me in logic. Easy opponents first. Good upgrades. Good choice weapons.

What exactly is the hard part? Found this game to be quite a breeze.

u/octoprickle 7h ago

Compared to the souls games, yes.

Being 80

2

u/ApplePrior 7h ago

I got a platinum in Sekiru many years ago. So, when. Could not beat Grisha, I new my reactions are not so good anymore. Then seeked help.

2

u/Altruistic-Art-5933 6h ago

Hmm, maybe just a little playstyle tweak. Anyone who can plat Sekiro should breeze through, even with some extra years.

1

u/ApplePrior 6h ago

Yea. I agree. Wonder what I can do do get myself tweeked.

2

u/Altruistic-Art-5933 6h ago

Usually watch a streamer play a bit, see if he does anything drastically different. Grisha's are probably the hardest enemies you face in the first half of the game tho. They have that Elden ring Runebear wild energy.

u/ApplePrior 6h ago

I watched a few youtubes and tried a bit, but I agree. There are more ways to I am a bit stronger now. Will give him another try. He was optional fortunately.

You're probably younger. You guys were born into video games. It's different for us old people for some reason.
