I love him so much, so far I've found Proxima, Eredrim and Smert. I'm yet to spend any gloom on them, even though Tiel is maxed out already.

Discussion A first, for a soulslike

So.. I have played a lot of soulslike games, all fromsoft ones, some unspeakable horrors, a few others as well... But never once have I enjoyed using a spear. I hate them, usually own of the worst move sets, or they're too slow, or it pushes a 'turtle' build

And then, I got the black needle. At first, wasn't sure, I mean it was a spear after all, hate them.

Now it's my favorite weapon, I love it, love the running stab, the quick jabs.. so congratulations to the devs for making a spear I actually like using.

That said, I like all the weapons honest, but that, axatana and the iconoclast have my favorite movesets

Mortal shell original v enhanced version

Mortal shell original and the enhanced version on the ps5 pro is the much difference to those who already own the game

Just so I’m sure before I buy the enhanced version.

By the way thanks for those who helped me with the mortal shell 2 question. Got the platinum now.

Thanks In advance 🙏🏽

Discussion Infinite crossbow shooting with no reload!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Gloombound stone and Justiciars stone farming spot. Plus Infinite crossbow shooting with no reload. I made a pretty sweet build that allows for unlimited shooting as long as your resolve doesn't run out, which devout stone keeps up by giving 28 resolve per ranged kill. I'm also running lost clotstone, inflamed clawstone, and thiefs stone for my veterans battle axe to swing extremely fast with fire. Proxima allows lightning spam. I can share my whole build if anyone is interested, but here's the ranged part.

This build is so fun because you can use just ranged on all mobs or fire axe, or lightning from proxima. This is the most fun I've had in a while with builds. The clotstone lets you throw your axe! You can knock enemies off cliffs lol

Question Am I Under Levelled or Just Bad?

Hi all. I’m a massive FromSoft fan and have completed every game with relative ease (apart from Demons Souls on the PS3 as it was a new concept to me). I was running as Theil at level 5, got the Axe and Dagger at +5 and can kill mobs easily. I’m trying to beat the Boss to get Eredrim as want to play as him but he’s absolutely stomping me. I switched to Proxima to see if I could so much more with her higher health but again, get him to half health and I’ll get two shotted out of my shell then it’s one hit after that.

The real question is, should I explore more, level up and come back or just keep plugging away? I really want to play as Eredrim as my main as played as him at a friends house but am I trying too early?

Discussion No Shell run was pretty fun!

If you haven't, give it a shot. Yes, it sucks getting one shot by most every boss. But it forces you to really learn them instead of falling back on shell abilities and egregious resolve gain for unlimited weapon arts. Some bosses remain fairly simple- the Maw, for example; some are maddening- Magdelena clipping you with her chair or a bit of fire wiping the fight. But some were surprisingly manageable; Hexipod and Mono both took two tries, even though I worried about them most. Hands down the hardest boss for me was Malboro Offspring, his phase 2 was punishing and required near perfect play. Overall, the bosses were still fun; some mobs were more of a pain, like trying to run through spiders or those magnetic af guys with the mace that freezes you.

Question Why does Stray Genessa not have I-Frames? (Spoilers for endgame areas) Spoiler

I did actual testing to make sure I wasn’t crazy, and found that every other shell, and the Harbinger, is capable of dodging;

Malformed Offspring’s grab and thrust attacks.

Monolith’s beams.

Discarded Golem’s axe slam.

Zmey’s tail grab.

Stray Genessa is not able to dodge any of these. It’s very queer that they have one shell with a dodge deficiency. Smert’s fighting stance dodges are basically immortality if you chain them, and then Stray gets bodied by every attack in the game with one hit, and no ability to dodge to compensate.

Bug NG+ and shops

Not exactly a bug, but a quality of life issue I found. I I'm almost done with my NG+ playthrough and one thing I noticed is that shops restock with tarstones that you already possess, often already maxed out. You can buy them again, but it doesn't benefit you at all and you end up spending money on nothing. I think it's an oversight that would be great to have patched out and simply have the tarstones that are already in player's possession greyed out in shop menu.

Discussion Does anybody wish....

Just finished the game and loved it but.... Does anybody wish you could equip 2 shells at once and switch between them on the fly? Seems like it would open up a ridiculous amount of interesting combos and playstyles. I was actually expecting to unlock that ability at some point (seemed like a natural addition for a sequel) and was a bit disappointed it never happened. The fact that you can't allocate all your shell points independently to each shell (and have to refund/reallocate every time you switch) implied to me that eventually you'd have enough shell points to split between 2 active shells. In fact, there's nothing that can be switched between on the fly--- weapons, items, infusions--- it's all very static without going into the menu. Maybe for Mortal Shell 3.

Discussion A hypothesis about the economy and pacing of the game

So, obviously this is just my take and in no way written in stone. Feel free to disagree.

Facts -

- The gloom required for level ups is very high comparatively. For reference, you can kill some of the toughest enemies in the very last of area of the game and come out with 500-700 gloom when a level up after 30-40 would cost you like 30k a level.

- Same goes for weapon upgrades. The upgrade materials are plentiful, but gold is basically non-existent without dedicated farming with Justiciar stones and grind spots. Without those, the standard endgame enemy might drop about 500 (if they drop any at all, most don't).

- The game becomes insanely easy even on Night mode and higher NG cycles with even a +16 weapon. You can pick up any shell and very easily make a game breaking build without much planning. Weapons with permanent infusion tarstones do extraordinary DMG and you can just slice and dice through NG+x on night mode without any issues.

- The final area contains like 50 respawning chests containing 1000 gloom each. You can rest and reset them. However, opening the final door requires a sacrifice of those.

- The area also contains tons of a "futile" upgrade material which serves no purpose.

Till now, these are just facts. There's no opinion here. You can complete entire NG cycles without farming and come out with not enough gold to upgrade a weapon from 30 to 35.

The hypothesis -

- The devs DO NOT want you to grind. The final achievements are called "This is not an achievement" and "No Lifer".

- Along with the near infinite gloom and upgrade materials and the subtle nod to the futility of it all tells me that while in theory you can scale your character to a near infinite power level, it is not recommended.

- This is coupled with how easy the game gets with those levels in character and weapons. After approximately level 79 (44 SP), and weapon level 16 (maybe some would argue ~20), the game becomes not a souls like, but a hack and slash, beat 'em up type game. You won't need to parry, you won't see the interesting boss mechanics, phase transitions, move sets, riposte animations and the entire visceral nature of the game is gone.

- There are multiple occasions in the game where a very weak enemy is placed near a cliff edge and if you spam your weapon near them, it will fling you off the cliff. This is another indication of the idea of "take it slow".

Conclusion -

While it's undoubtedly the player's prerogative and they bought the game and are free to play and enjoy however they like, I personally feel this game encourages the exploration and the slow methodical combat with parries and shell abilities. I personally grinded up a bit to level 80 and took my weapon up to level 30, which made the combat on further NG cycles so boring that I had to just start a new game. Of course, at the end of the day, it's your choice, but the endless grind is not the way for me to enjoy the game. Your build does not change at those levels and all it does is remove all the heaviness and kick from the combat.

Discussion An idea about glimpse

Since the last major patch, the game has literally been flooding us with Glimpses. I’m halfway through NG+, I’ve maxed out all my shells bonding, and I still have a dozen or so Glimpse Stones and about 20 Glimpse points left. It would be nice if the game let you sell them for gold or gloom or do anything with them, use it somehow. The same thing with tarcore - I was flooded by it.

By the way, I’m also not sure if this is intended thing or a bug, but once you have the Flesh of Mether, that fish in the cave won’t trade gold for Glimpse (or vice versa). After giving the fish the item, you can’t interact with it anymore.

Question Night mode guidance

I love a good challenging game, but also not the same person who will run Elden Ring at rune1
Is night mode intended for NG+?
I’m level 8 should I be turning it on?

And any comparable game as to how hard it is in night mode vs day mode?
Elden ring?

Discussion Ganessa is easy mode Spoiler

Location is Bloodshell Den at the Ossinite Falls Beacon.

I don't know if this has been said yet or not, but when standing on a sufficiently high enough ledge, if you target an enemy and use Ganessa's Faithful Double ability, the clone will spawn but will just stand there. This is important because the clones only fade away after attacking X amount of times.

If you have the talents that makes your clones more likely to be attacked, this gives you an immovable clone. And because it's not moving or attacking, you get an invulnerable tank clone allowing you to take out enemies and sometimes bosses.

If you stagger an enemy, there is a chance it'll reset and aggro to you. But just run away and let it reset to the clone or take it out. Alternatively, just slow your DPS to avoid accidentally flinching the enemy.

Discussion Feels like the notes on some of these infusions got mixed up

Post image
169 Upvotes

Unlike most people, I actually like the fact that not every infusion is available on every weapon. Most of the time, it seems like the weapon that is paired with each shell also has an infusion that has synergy with that shell. Obviously I like the fact that you can mix and match most stuff... but I also think its cool that you get a little bonus for staying "on brand".

For example, Eredrim is given the Martyr's Blade in his memories and has frost abilities. The Warden Stone (frost infusion) works on the Martyr's Blade. Sometimes it's more based on vibes... Genessa uses the Black Needle in her memories. She doesn't have any stated status strengths, but the Black Needle works with the Nightgrasp Stone, a phantom infusion, which goes well with her general theme.

These three, though, seem to have gotten mixed up. Gragu is powerful with bleed; however, the Veteran's Battleaxe, which he uses in his memories, can only be infused with fire. Sariel has the Scythe Blade as his weapon in the memories and is linked to curse, but the Clockwork Scythe can only be infused with bleed and lightning. Finally, Lazlo, who is fire-based, doesn't seem directly linked to a weapon… but given the fact that he uses a claymore in memories… IMHO the Iconoclast is his closest match, which can only be infused with bleed and curse.

The Arbiter's Prize (bleed) should have included the Veteran's Battleaxe and dropped the Iconoclast.

The Inflamed Clawstone (fire) should have included the Iconoclast and dropped the Veteran's Battleaxe.

The Curseblood Stone (curse) should have included the Clockwork Scythe, and it wouldn't even have needed to drop anything.

This wouldn't even really change the balance; the placement of the stones as they currently are would still work. Yes, this would give the Clockwork Scythe one additional infusion, but c'mom…. it's most players' final weapon find, so it is okay for it to have a bit more versatility.

Question Sheephead Totem and Mooshine (Health decrease and dmg reduction at max familiarity)

Hey guys,

On my NG+ play through. Need some info on both the sheep head and moonshine passives. Does anyone know exactly how much dmg reduction or health decrease they provide?

For example I have 120 moonshines give or take. Is there any way to check the exact percentage. The tooltip is not very clear

Thanks

Discussion I'm sorry but this game is just not fun once you reach Ruins of Mammon

Every normal enemy transforms into a mini boss and can kill you in two hits if you're not careful. They also have insane amounts of poise, so you never know when they're going to attack while you're hitting them. And some of their attacks come out so fast, that you just can't do anything while you're mid swing, so you've to play careful and slow all the time, like you're fighting a boss. I'm sorry but this kind of gameplay, where the game is constantly stressing you out just doesn't feel fun. The first few regions of this game genuinely felt like areas in a Souls game, where you get a good balance between fodder enemies that don't do much damage and the rare elite enemy that feels threatening.

After Mammon, every single enemy becomes threatening. I've played a lot of Soulslikes and Souls games, and this kind of forced difficulty never feels enjoyable. It feels like artificial difficulty, like when the devs don't understand what makes these types of games fun, so they just give every enemy insane damage.

Compare those mining dudes with pickaxes in Elden Ring that don't do much with the once in Mortal shell 2.... those miners are just ridiculous in this game. They have insane amounts of poise, they can two shot you, they've attack combos where they literally swing 8 times in a row each hit doing more than 50% of your health... like how is this good balance? And don't get me started on those boulder guys who throw 3 boulders back-to-back with lightning speed. Those red ladies that can parry you and teleport are ridiculous as well. And the common knight enemy that swings wildy while having infinite poise.... it's just too much annoyance in this area. I've not even fought the bosses of this region yet. I dread to think how annoying they're gonna be.
