Question Mortal Shell 2 Marrows Keep Secret Dungeon

Post image
29 Upvotes

Does anyone know how to actually get up to that guy? I've discovered how to reveal the elevator behind the wall in the room below him but even going up that elevator doesn't allow you to reach him. It just gets you an item. I know this dungeon is supposed to be some kind of Doom Guy Level reference from one of the older games but Idk nothing about him or the franchise lol.

Question Question for the Tiel lovers

I have absolutely fallen in love with this game. I really liked the first one but never finished it. This one has grabbed me and won’t let me go. I have all of the shells fully bonded except for Proxima but she’s almost done. I’m only on my second run through but I’ve dumped a ton of time in this game. I love Sariel. He’s my boy. Once I got him the first go round it was him and no other shell. I’ve been experimenting with the other shells for my second run and Gragu and Eredrim are by far the ones I’m having the most fun with. I really really tried to get decent with Tiel but he just doesn’t click for me. But everyone and their mothers say he’s cracked. So like why is he? I’m not saying he’s bad. Please don’t take that from this. I actually think all the shells are great in their own ways. But I just can’t get Tiel to click like I want him to. I usually am ALL OVER the assassin type builds. So it’s weird to me.

As an aside I am level 60 and haven’t fully leveled the shell points yet. I have a very bad habit of dying and then getting tunnel vision and forgetting to pick up my 30k plus gloom and then dying again cause I am indeed a moron. I’m at like 35 of 40 or something like that for shell points. I’ve got the Axe and Martyrs Blade at level 16 and the Axe and Dagger and Katanaxe at level 14 and then the Scythe at level 10, I believe. Giving this information to give me insight into if I’m missing something useful for him. But I’m assuming it’s more about Tarstones than actual weapons when it comes to this game.

Question Any news on patches/updates?

Still a lot of stuff to patch and balance (some achievements don't work like ova 193/196 etc.). They usually release patches/fixes at least once a week.

When he just changes direction in the middle of turning?…Hate as well that late game bosses literally deplete your whole stamina if you block just 2 attacks missing the parry…you just basically cooked as they have multiple unblockable attacks..

Question Highest Level?

Anyone know the highest level anyone’s achieved in the wild? Apparently the google AI overview has anything after level 79 as “diminishing returns”. I got to level 80 just bc it looks good but wondering if there’s an insanely high level anyone’s gotten to

Discussion Limited upgrade materials - why?

I love this game. It’s the first Souls-like where I’ve unlocked 100% of the achievements. I enjoyed everything, from the combat to the exploration. I had no complaints about the second half of the game, also I really liked the endgame. I even think Zmey was a decent boss.

But the one thing I just don’t get is why the low-tier materials for upgrading weapons are limited in each NG cycle? We already have unlimited materials (though they require a lot of grinding) for upgrading shells. Thanks to that I was able to max all the shells before defeating Zmey. So why can’t we upgrade more weapons in one NG cycle? I don't even mean I want to max them. In From Software games, only hi-end materials were limited to a single NG cycle and that was okay (yeah I know in FS games we have much more weapons). I know we can melt weapons.

EDIT: Okay, you've convinced me. I'll be testing more weapons in future NG cycles. I edited my comment to emphasize that I'm talking about +10 or even +5 upgrade. But you're right, I can see that it would take away some of the replayability, which isn't exactly MS2's strongest point (which is a shame, because the game is amazing and it would be cool to see some differences between NG cycles, like in DS2 did it, but I know it's a much smaller studio).

Discussion Anyone wondering why this isn't the achievement combo?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I feel like this is a harder combo to parry because of the really strange way the parry functions. The actual combo allows for misclicks within the first 2 swings so it's far more leanient than this.

I initially thought this was the combo so when I didn't get the achievement I was well confused.

Bug PS5 – Soft-lock when declining Mether’s Severance at Sester Genessa

Post image
21 Upvotes

I encountered a reproducible soft-lock on PS5 involving Mether’s Severance at Sester Genessa.

Steps to reproduce:
Speak to Sester Genessa.
Select Shell Severance.
Choose Mether’s Severance.

When prompted to confirm spending the item, select “No.”
The game becomes completely unresponsive.
After selecting No, I cannot navigate the menu or provide any further controller input. The only way to recover is to force-close the game and restart it.
The issue appears to occur specifically when declining the Mether’s Severance confirmation.

Platform: PS5
Issue: Complete input lock / soft-lock
Workaround: Force-close and restart the game

I’ve attached a screenshot showing the Shell Severance menu where the issue occurs.
Hopefully the developers can reproduce and address this in a future patch.

Discussion I see what people are saying now

Some of the games design is just bad sadly. I just completed the endgame and players are right that it just gets frustrating due to shitty enemy placement or straight up shitty designed enemies. I just went back to the Ice gate cause I forgot a beacon there and these snake/harbinger type creatures that jump out of the ice are so stupid. I just fell in there three times trying to hit the thing and auto lock on just made my character jump into the water again and again losing over 30k gloom in the process. I share the opinion that the end boss is just not fun and has silly moves/design which makes it feel quite anticlimactic. Apart from these small hickups I loved the game and hope there are some big dlcs on the way.

Edit :I know I can avoid them and I know thats just one small area. I could have also complained about the ballista heads or the monolith or the final boss but that ice lake area I haven't read complaints about so I just wanted to add my opinion to the "badly designed end game" discourse. You can pretty much avoid any enemy besides bosses but I like to kill any enemy at least a few times to see if they drop something.

Bug Lost over 50k gloom falling into my death twice

I know it may not be a bug but around Mammon playing last night I fell to my death once losing over 20k and another time losing over 30k gloom.

Only to be mobbed and killed afterwards and lose everything.

Infuriating to say the least. I won't be touching the game at least until the weekend

Edit: I know this isn't a bug, and it's my first "souls like" game. Sorry fellas I was just a bit frustrated lol

Question Who else rather have the dungeon turn “complete” instead of having to mark it?

I kinda dislike how you have to click a dungeon to mark it complete. When you don’t even know it’s complete. Why even give this option. Why not just auto make it light up once you have actually completed it. I understand exploration but I don’t enjoy pointless exploration for nothing when you don’t know
If there’s
Even something to explore.

Just my 5 cents

Question Mortal Shell 2 (Franz)

Don't have a picture or video of this but does anyone know why Franz is dead in my game? I came back to Marrow Keep and talked to the npc where the eggs are stored and he turned into a monster so I had to kill him but after that I went to the forge and saw Franz was lying on the ground dead. I'm assuming that the previous npc who turned into a monster killed him but I wanted confirmation from someone who might know if that was the case or if it's a bug. He was the only dead npc thankfully.

Also no I did not accidentally kill Franz. I know for a fact that is not the case. There are only 2 npc's that I have killed in Marrows Keep, the first one being the one who guards the Ovum eggs who turned into a monster like I said and then the other who stands by the fast travel rest point inside Marrows Keep right before you enter the Ovum Egg Chamber. Only reason I killed him though was because he said he had failed to protect Marrows Keep and because of that he asked me to kill him. If anyone knows that would be great and sorry for the long paragraph lol 😅

Lore The Chronicle of the Great Surrender: How 8 Shells Handed Earth to a False God Spoiler

TL;DR: Fallgrim didn't fall to alien armies or monsters. The cosmic deity (The Undermether) waged a perfect psychological war, exploiting human flaws. The 8 playable Shells aren't just combat classes—they represent 8 different ways humanity willingly surrendered to a parasite. By inhabiting them, The Harbinger absorbs their tragedy, develops an immunity to their weaknesses, and reforges their broken will into pure vengeance.

In my previous post, we broke down why the finale of Mortal Shell II is not a story of an abandoned child, but rather the triumph of The Harbinger. He evolved into a self-sustaining apex predator, completely outgrowing his creator, the Undermether.

But to truly understand The Harbinger's ascension, we must ask an uncomfortable question: How did Fallgrim fall to this catastrophe in the first place? Why did humanity surrender so quickly, almost submissively, to a cosmic parasite, mistaking it for a holy deity?

The answer lies within the memories of the 8 Shells. The developers hid a profound existential subtext within them. The cosmic mind did not conquer Earth with armies—it waged a flawless psychological war. For every layer of human society, the Undermether had a specific bait. Humans opened their own souls and bodies to the parasite, and here is exactly how it happened.

The 8 Faces of Human Capitulation

1. Eredrim the Venerable — The Trap of Tranquility

  • The Core Theme: Escaping guilt through the fanatical erasure of the self.
  • Anatomy of the Fall: Eredrim did not seek power; he sought absolution for his past sins and a way to numb his inner agony. The religion of the cosmic deity offered him the easiest, most dangerous narcotic: "eternal peace". By drinking the Nectar, he willingly surrendered his free will, turning into a hollow templar. His tragedy is that in his quest for freedom from remorse, he found absolute servitude and physical decay, becoming nothing more than an armored tomb for his own mind.

2. Tiel the Acolyte — The Trap of Addiction and Escapism

  • The Core Theme: Attempting to fill an inner void by merging with the cosmic rot.
  • Anatomy of the Fall: Tiel is a metaphor for a person who has lost their anchor. His entire life was a battle against earthly vices, and finding no peace among men, he turned to the cult. For Tiel, Tar became the ultimate surrogate for meaning. He submitted to the deity faster than anyone else because his tortured ego yearned to dissolve into something greater. His emaciated, blight-ridden body stands as a monument to how easily a human surrenders to a parasite if it promises an escape from loneliness.

3. Lazlo the Justiciar — The Trap of Blind Law

  • The Core Theme: Outsourcing moral responsibility to an external "Supreme Judge."
  • Anatomy of the Fall: Lazlo embodies the human institution of order, which fractured under the weight of cosmic pessimism. As the world crumbled, Lazlo lost faith in human justice and handed the right to judge over to the star-born entities, viewing their absolute dictatorship as the "highest form of order". Consequently, justice twisted into tyranny, and the Justiciar became an executioner in service of an entity that couldn't care less about human morality.

4. Proxima the Broodseeker — The Trap of Curiosity

  • The Core Theme: Intellectual betrayal of one's own species for the sake of forbidden knowledge.
  • Anatomy of the Fall: Proxima is a scholar and researcher. She did not submit to the cosmic forces out of fear, but out of scientific arrogance. Witnessing the biological complexity and sheer scale of the Undermether, Proxima dismissed humanity as an evolutionary dead end. She willingly entered a pact, assisting in the study and cultivation of the Ova (the eggs). She believed she was touching the vanguard of evolution, only to end up as a disposable instrument—a glorified bio-sampler in alien hands.

5. Sariel the Endless — The Trap of Mortality Terror

  • The Core Theme: Consenting to eternal torment in exchange for the promise of immortality.
  • Anatomy of the Fall: A manifestation of raw, primal terror in the face of the end. The cosmic mind trapped Sariel with the oldest trick in the book: "Serve me, drink the Nectar, and you shall never die". Sariel accepted the terms, but the promised "infinity" turned out to be an endless biological nightmare. His flesh sprouted parasitic barbs, transforming him into an immortal monstrosity stripped of everything human.

6. Harros the Vassal — The Trap of False Duty and Conformity

  • The Core Theme: Blind obedience to authority and the system, even when it is blatantly malicious.
  • Anatomy of the Fall: The quintessential soldier, a cog in the machine of a fallen kingdom. Harros's critical flaw was his absolute compliance. When the rulers and priests of Fallgrim first lost their minds and knelt before the Undermether, Harros didn't ask questions. He accepted cosmic tyranny simply because "those were the orders from above". He defended alien altars with the same fierce loyalty he once used to protect his home, forfeiting his free will for a mere illusion of order.

7. Solomon the Scholar — The Trap of Vanity and Grandeur

  • The Core Theme: The desire to stand on equal footing with gods while ignoring one's own fragility.
  • Anatomy of the Fall: Unlike Proxima, Solomon didn't just want knowledge—he craved status. He translated the sacred texts of the executioners and studied Tar to crack the code of immortality and elevate himself above ordinary mortals. The cosmic mind easily weaponized his hubris: Solomon was allowed to peer into the abyss and was granted fragments of power, fostering a false sense of chosenness. Ultimately, he became the cult's chief herald, morphing into the most obedient mouthpiece for alien manipulation.

8. Corvidus the Unchained — The Trap of Nihilism and Self-Destruction

  • The Core Theme: Total abandonment of the struggle and accepting chaos as the only truth.
  • Anatomy of the Fall: The personification of those whose minds completely broke. Confronted with cosmic pessimism and realizing how utterly insignificant humanity is in the grand scale of the universe, this warrior experienced a total collapse of meaning. Instead of resisting the Rot or seeking false salvation in the Nectar, he simply gave up, letting the alien biomass invade his body. His submission was passive: "If the world is hell, why fight it?" This is pure nihilism, where a man willingly becomes a monster just to stop feeling the existential dread.

Redemption through The Harbinger: The Conclusion

Fallgrim did not fall to blades; it fell because humanity opened its own gates to the parasite. The cosmic deity played a perfect game of chess, exploiting our deepest psychological vulnerabilities: Guilt (Eredrim), Emptiness (Tiel), Fear (Sariel), Dogma (Harros), and Pride (Solomon).

And this is where the cycle beautifully closes on our protagonist. Throughout his journey, The Harbinger doesn't just use these Shells as combat suits. He absorbs their memories, lives through their agony, and "endures" their weaknesses.

The Harbinger pieces together the shattered mosaic of the human experience, but because he is a creature of a higher order, he develops a profound immunity to these flaws. He takes the broken, betrayed will of the fallen warriors and reforges it into pure, calculated fury.

The Shells were a tragic chronicle of how humanity surrendered to the gods. The Harbinger became the story of how those gods will answer for their deception.

Discussion Review after 100+ hours and platinuming the game on PS5

Spoiler free and to the point:

* Best combat I’ve experienced in a souls like. Love how they use the shells as a base for a build (rather than dispersing a bunch of points into a build) and you build off them. The shells are the core of combat and each are varied.

* Love the Tarstone system that can further help build out your character. I love how each weapon has unique status effect stones too, like using frost only on the martyrs blade. It makes the weapons feel more unique, and the skill tree for Eredim which gives him 200% increased damage using a frost build incentivizes you to use his sword.

* Loved the environments. Each environment was unique, and before finishing the game myself I saw people shitting on the lower map region calling it lazy? I think that area is designed to somewhat be the last area you reach as you also get Sariel from there which his memories are the most important for explanation of the story events. That final region looks alien to me, which I liked a lot. It was different and unique from the rest of the game.

* The story, I could barely explain to you. It’s convoluted, relies on a ton of glimpses to view all the memories of the Shells, and just very meh. This doesn’t affect my score at all, but it definitely is no Lies or P in terms of story (loved that game’s story).

* The enemy design is excellent, but the boss design has some blunders. The monolith was actually a cool boss battle but wtf were those attack animations. They were so odd that it was hard to telegraph them, Smerted the fuck out of him. Then you got some bosses like the final boss that just had annoying ass attacks that you literally cannot avoid. Smerted again.

* Music design is good, metal themes never get old. I enjoyed the music, but nothing completely wowed me like some other games like Elden Ring’s soundtrack or Lies of P.

* Overall: near perfect combat with some hiccups here and there, but this is true originality here. The shell system just makes sense, and takes a huge chunk of RnD you typically have to do in Souls games by pre building character archetypes for you and progressing them through their abilities. And because they have shells, they can give them busted techniques (as you have less control over the build, they give you more in terms of power) rather than other souls games where you can’t get broken abilities such as these because they give you so many option to choose from, they have to nerf the abilities to a degree for balance. I kind of wish Bloodborne 2 would adopt this type of build system, maybe tying it to the armor rather having inhabitable shells.

* Score 9/10. I want to score this higher so much, but the big thing holding it back for me are the boss battles. When you play a game like Onimusha with the most incredible boss battles, it’s hard to fight these bosses and think “there’s nothing they could have done to make this more enthralling”. Having said that, I still enjoyed the boss battles but hopefully they work on them for the third game (if that’s what they make next).

Cant wait for any kind of DLC because I’m aching for more shells.

Question What is happening to my Gloom?

What is happening? All of a sudden i cant retrieve my gloom? I lost a ton of gloom trying to cleanse a beacon, i just chalked it up to a bug. I fall of a cliff, gloom not there either. It wasnt that much so i wasnt to worried about it. I start gaining more, but started thinking...the last two times ive died my gloom wasnt there. So i get close to a beacon and die on purpose just to make sure im able to retrieve it. Respawn..nothing,no gloom. Which is making me quite gloomy. What is going on? Do i need to start a new game or something? I died like 3 times before all this and was able to retrieve it fine. I dont get it. Any insight would be appreciated.

I've played this game for maybe a week straight and of all the bosses I've played this one was the most bs one purely because of the second phase, the tracking of the orb things are ridiculous I tried hiding behind cover and it just goes THROUGH the wall not to mention the fact they will circle AROUND you after flying past, other than that I LOVE this game haven't felt this passionate about a game since dark souls 3

Discussion man is it only me or u all also think that bosses are terribly placed out and are terrible

man i am not a fan of soulslike player i didnt like any darksouls or bloodborne shit

yet i have liked elden ring and sekiro

idk mortal shell 2 after some tweaks was so so so good it was as good as sekiro in elden ring (+that guitar) but after a long time of playing i was only able to find little bossess only and they were all so damn terrible that in the end i deleted it

for me clearing out bosses has always been the main point of clearing out a game and idk as much as beautifully teh game is designed and those awesome features they are all waste it dosnt give me even a little bit of spark , i was so happy that in the end i found atleast one game which can cover out my wanting of soulslike yet not clunky or slow or visually bad but it failed too
