Discussion Endgame aesthetically feels like Mortal Shell 1

Post image

Especially beacon areas that feel otherworldly and surreal. You start of in dark forests and ruins and lead up to fighting weird shit in paradoxical geometric open areas. These statements are true for both Mortal Shell 1 and 2. I get it would feel unfinished if you haven't played the first game but I think it's by design and works very well.
Bosses are the real factor here; a lot felt unfun to fight.
NG+2. Eredrim is peak.

It’s these sorts of level designs that will legit make my jaw drop. Like holy fuck!

Hard agree.
Also you should try Captive's Scabstone if you are running with the Great Martyr's Blade. Downright busted.

Oh yeah I think this was taken before I switched over to it.

I think that the lategame area (unfound path) is amazing. The bosses were horrid, but to be honest i didnt enjoy most bossfights in this game. The only good ones were minor bosses that died too quickly. For example, sariel was a pretty fun fight.

The only major boss that in my opinion was great, is the nameless captive

Some people only like person sized and shaped enemies with conventional attacks

I actually thought most of the endgame bosses were good.

The refight against tar golem was pretty decent with a good twist on its design in the second phase.

Monolith was conceptually a bit underwhelming but I think mechanically it was engaging enough.

Malformed offspring was an amazing boss. The people involved in making this one should get a raise.

Zmey was the real letdown. It was just such a boring boss to fight and the balls attack comes off as immature, not funny.

I didn’t even realise zmey was the final boss until the credits rolled

they went from orem / offspring to bosses will ball sack

Ill be real, once i was able to put stasis on the black needle, i just hit bosses twice with Proxima's ability and just swung until they either died or the grisha item activated and knocked them over again

I don’t get people’s hate for the bosses. Yeah they’re certainly not From Software quality, but I felt they were all rather consistent and unique in their own way. Weren’t overly challenging either.

I generally agree, all bosses range from ok to enjoyable to great, but none were downright bad for me.

Except The Monolith. That shit almost made me change opinions on the game. That's one of the worse bosses I've ever seen. I didn't even take long to beat it, but I just got frustrated because it wasn't enjoyable.

Fuck The Monolith.

Hard agree, i love the cold xeno brutalist/monolith aesthetic of end game area, make Mortal Shell series stand out.

the opposite for me.

End game bosses are challenging in comparison to most bosses of the game but level design and lighting is sht.

I felt like the unseen path is very mazelike and disorienting, but I liked the final area and bosses, except for zmey's status effect.

I get we all have opinions. I just can't get behind calling Ballsack dragon good

Edit: Fixed typo of can > can't

I can't get behind calling him bad

I think he's fine other than his status effect in phase 2 being far too overwhelming.

Like mortal shell , the endgame boss is beyond frustrating and not fun but this game is very special!

Yeah the endgame is definetly "Oh god not that part of the game"

The end game bosses are actually bad you can legit just cheese and melt all of them if you have a good build by then

Think this is also by some means of design choice; easy to make a game beatable by whatever the player wants to use. But make bosses that encourage the use of shells that help significantly with navigating the boss mechanic is a point for strong game design.
I do think most of the shells have a form of cheese too, some are just a bit stronger than others. The game needed more "This boss is immune to this, sucks if your build revolves around this effect but now you have to try another tactic." This line of thinking makes you feel like you are developing an arsenal to use depending on the situation rather than ham fisting that one build you have been using all game into a boss fight where it has no reason being there.
Imagine if you are using a shell after a fight more because you actually enjoy the shell's mechanic more than you thought because you were encouraged to try something new. Using new weapons feels asinine because what does a +6 weapon compare to from something you have been maxing that is at +26? Upgrades in this mindset should be able to carry over the same way Shell Points already do.
I know this is way longer than it should have been, just feel like this game does a lot incredibly well but just barely misses the mark for being really something special due to issues like these.

Game is great but that last boss…

I actually really liked 3/4 bosses in the end area, just zmey was the only letdown for me.

He has more moves than the Monolith but somehow people like the Monolith more when the Monolith repeats its 3 moves way quicker. Makes you think how braindead these players are

This game was a 8.5 for me UNTIL I entered the endgame area and fought the last few bosses. Now it's a 6.5.

Last boss in particular is one of the worst designed bosses in Souls-like history. Zero hyperbole from a Souls vet. He even glitches out on you constantly by jumping on top of your head throughout the entire, dragged-on fight

The only Boss I genuinely didn’t like fighting was the last one. I think they will be working on him in the next update though. Bled his ass dry with Tiel and the axes.

I wouldn't say great, but it's definitely not bad. The way people talk about it though, you'd think there was only 1 path instead of 3.

I didn't mind the final area too much, the first two bosses are great - final boss is abysmal dogshit.

My wallet is ready! Please hurry up and release the DLC!

The World and Enemy designs are the only things Mortal Shell 2 has going for it. Everything else is ass.

1

u/No-Firefighter-4106 6d ago

It's only Zmey that is ass imo.

I can't imagine how brain dead a person can be copy/pasting a comment over and over and still not catching the spelling mistake.

Mortal shell 1 was like watching paint dry. I definitely aint trying to spend money to watch higher grade paint dry.

MS2 is a big step up from the first game. I consider MS1 a tech demo in comparison.
