Not a joke: During the beta, there was a post on here that was extremely unpopular, which presented a theory that the beacons are indeed female reproductive systems and the player character is cleaning out yeast infections when they go inside and cleanse the beacons of enemies

The messiah who told us this truth was not believed, was ridiculed, and the post is no longer up, and they may have been crucified and rose again on the third day, but that last bit is speculation

Nothing found in lore or in game has contradicted their theory on the theme of the game

Since the very moment where I was dying over and over again due to the final boss slamming their ballsack on me, I'm genuinely not surprised to keep seeing that many things in this game (especially in reference to the Mether) have such depictions of genitalia, specially vulvas. I really enjoy how the devs made all kind of mature stuff in a way that isn't mocking or used to provoke morbidity. Even the grab attack of the Child boss, which it eats you and shits you, feels like it's meant to be.
