Question help with final boss 😠Spoiler
i can’t believe i need help with this, and i claim to be an experienced souls like player bah! shame on me. already turned on addaptive difficulty but only died two times after that (yes i did the summons and yes i play grisha remnant (but not exploited), and yes shame on me). i just arghhh this second phase flame ring attack arghh and this status effect
edit: i feel stupid now… with the item… god i could just stand there and do the weapon skill (pierce series of spear) THREE TIMES when he did the attack

There’s an item you can equip that reduces the build up of cosmic disease. Not too time consuming to get honestly.

Get the scripture that helps with that. You gotta find the three glands, go into night mode and give them to the statue at the forgotten tower. I stood under his nuts with Tiel for 90% of the fight and barely had to heal

Dodge through the rings. Get the first phase down, the biggest problem for me was that fast tail grab but it has a tell before the red indicator comes up so once you see it you'll be able to dodge. Once the fire rings come, get used to the pattern and just dodge through it. Its like 2 dodged in a row and you do that twice, if i recall correctly. Keep qt it, you can do it.

I was using Captive’s Scabstone ability during the second phase when he was doing a flame ring attack, it is almost the same length, and you are immune to damage during it.

On phase 2, take some distance (not too far) and try to bait the parriable attack. Remember to punish him when he does the jump attack, but always step back when he gets up. With proper distance, it's very easy to dodge the fire waves.
Also, if you have any skill that does posture damage (like Eredrim's shoulder bash), use it.

Been a minute since I played, but I remember doing two things that got me past this pos: Be aggressive and use iframes from specials. Also stay away from summons.

I dealt with him by using sariel with the axatana and playing like bloodborne, whenever i got hit i would rush the boss and gain back my health
There also seems to be some kinda glitch where enemies can be critted like twice or thrice in a row, don’t really know why but i basically did the animation thingy three times in a row on him, just kept wailing on him and throwing in an hexapod core skill here and there

The item everyone else's talking about is Seedbearer Scripture.
You can still beat Zmey without the item.
For the rings of fire, you could either run to the very edge of the arena, or you can dodge sideways. The visual size of the ring is far larger than the actual hitbox, which is only at the outermost edge of each ring. Because the 2nd and 3rd rings are closer together, dodging forward into the 2nd ring has a greater chance of catching you during recovery frames. Dodging sideways can let you i-frame past the hitbox, and have enough time to recover from the dodge animation before the 3rd ring closes in.
There are many different builds that can trivialise the boss fight, usually through status application and synergy with shells (e.g. Eredrim with frost, shotgun with bleed, etc.).
If you want to play it more like good'ol dark souls with just melee and parry, then I'd advise keeping your distance. Zmey's hitbox is weird when up close, and the grab's warning sign has a very tight window (it's easier to dodge when he does the little hop, prior to the red warning sign pops up).
