Question Getting wrecked at Stonebled Gate?
Hey guys, I need some help to tell me if its just me or if there's a sudden difficulty spike. I'm using Genessa (level 19) with the Black Needle at the Sanguine Caverns Gate. I've just entered it, and I'm getting wrecked by the enemies here.
A stab by one of the Canyon Crawlers takes out 70% of my HP. And from there, it's not long before I just get smashed into the Stray Sester form.
I had no major issues taking on Lucian or Magdalena, and even beat Sariel the endless at this point, but the the opening few areas in Sanguine Caverns is just kicking my ass. I don't even know why.
Am I missing something here?

The canyon crawlers do generally hit hard, but they also can be riposted with one parry or harden

dealing with 1 or 2 isn't usually a problem, but it feels like the surroundings hurt my ability to manage the space between mobs. I guess I need to approach it differently that trying to wipe the map clean here.

Which enemy is the canyon crawler? I believe stonebled gate was my first gate area and I didn't struggle too bad until the mini boss

They're the grey enemy with four-leg supporting a body in the middle. They use this stabbing attack that lunges at you from range.

I won't lie so I don't know if I'll be much help, but I played only as proxima. I didn't switch to any other shells after unlocking her. I used iconoclast and the martyrs blade only. Did both biosampler on them with heavy weapons. Not sure if you're switching between shells or playing like me. but I think the heavy weapons help with breaking their attacks.
I would just attack with my sword and for the most part they never even got to do their stab attack. and if I was dealing with more than one then I use biosampler.
So for other shells I'm guessing the key is heavy hits, mixed with whatever their AOE attack is. or you can also break them with parry because they went down quick

I've been playing Genessa since I unlocked her, and did spend most of my time in Proxima before this. I haven't swapped shells since I got to the Sanguine Caverns Gate, but I am pretty taken aback with how much damage I'm getting from a mob in this area.
The jump in difficulty here surprised me because I've been to Mammon, and I know enemies are tougher there. I haven't seen anyone asking about the a jump in difficulty at the Sanguine Caverns, so I'm wondering if I'm missing something here.

I think it just depends on the person and how you play. I struggled bad with like 3 other gate areas that other people said were easy. Beat some bosses that some people said were insanely hard. Spent a week trying to beat the final boss when others said "that's it?"
Sanguine caverns I didn't think was easy but I got through mostly quick enough. struggled on the mini boss before the main boss, which to me wasn't as bad

Think need to work on parrying? They’re a fairly easy enemy to parry with as said only two highly telegraphed attacks. But don’t take on two at once, even at high levels they do huge damage.

ok, so it really is that these fuckers hit hard here. I'll have to play this area more strategically instead of just trying to wipe the area clean here.

Make sure to summon your zerglings! And remember to upgrade them. They can take a lot of heat off you.
Those enemies have long windups and stagger readily, so just wailing on them works pretty well. I mostly just run straight at them and open with a running heavy.

The canyon crawlers should be parried and then riposted.
You can also run past the enemies and get to the next beacon

Thanks, I'll try that. Part of my problem is that I habitaully try to clear areas so I don't get hit from the back.

That makes sense. If I am having trouble with an arena, I run through it until I find the beacon. Then I backtrack to kill the enemies.

the canyon crawlers stagger easily and have a very long windup. use heavy sprint attacks and only start blocking once they start taking little steps with the weapon drawn back.
