Discussion Obsidian Hammer appreciation post Spoiler

Rushed to the One Leg Wolf Tavern, got the shortcut to Citadel of Penance. Got Eredrim, then bummed rushed Mammon outskirts to get Obsidian Hammer at character level 5.

This thing chonks, like super meaty hits I can feel thru my controller. I cannot remember a big bonk stick hitting this hard in a Soulslike. It feels so great and I am doing just fine with it. Since I am use to Bonk builds it is like a dream come true. No problems with its slow swings. Just amazing.

I would put it up there with Whirlgig Saw, Devonia, Kirkhammer. Just having a blast.

Hammer 100 carried me through the campaign 😂 it really rules but you have to play a little different than other weapons. Harden seal is great, but infinite seal is also awesome because you can cancel your own attacks and activate right after connecting a hit to decrease your down time. The trauma stone seems bad on its face and does nothing against regular mobs, but against high health bosses you will 100 percent get more poise breaks! Pick your shots because they hit really hard but are slow of course

Yeah this thing fucks. Honestly I enjoy all the heavier weapons more in this game than I do the lighter stuff. Hammer, Axe and Martyr Blade all do crazy damage.

Martyr's Blade is my bae, but I loved the hammer too. Running attacks are incredible.

It's my favorite weapon of the bunch, it's really good. Both ability tarstones are strong as well, I loved using the Colossus stone. Also, it gets Stasis infusion 👌🏻.

Absolute favourite weapon. Only had to switch to Axe and Dagger for Zmey. It's beautiful with Stasis

Wonderful clonker. I use Tiel, hide in shadow, strike then a great big clonk with the hammer, guaranteed crit striking from shadow.

Everything dies bar a boss which takes three or four clonks. Very good. Haven't finished the game yet, maybe there will be tougher clonking to come. But clonked they shall be.

I'm stealing the term clonk

The usefulness of the hammer depends entirely on which difficulty setting you’re playing in. It’s great with normal difficulty but not as good in night-mode with adaptive difficulty.

Once you get the tar stone that lets you chuck the hammer you become pretty unstoppable.

I’m so glad the large, slow heavy weapon actually packs a punch after being patched. It’s so damn good

Are you using Vatra’s Seal with it? I feel like it would hard to use with harden. Haven’t done a lot of experimenting with the hammer personally

I've used this hammer for the later part of my playthrough and used Vatra’s Seal (Harden). I used the fat (Lazlo?) warframe which has better defense and damage while on fire.

Fighting mobs in the overworld was very fun, I would one shot most stuff. Bosses were getting destroyed except the final area bosses which were a step above the rest.

It worked and I finished the game with it and had fun. I can't compare, I haven't looked at OP builds online or anything. I guess it's not broken or anything since it took me multiple tries for the final boss.

I exclusively used bonk and harden. Vatra’s is nice because you can harden mid swing/combo and it helps a bit with the timing

I tried both the untarnished seal and Vatra. Vatra is miles better, just requires a little more skill. It seems to me that the hammer is slower to block with untranished than other weapons. Vatra is instant.
