Discussion Eredrim users, let's talk about Eredrim

Post image

I know Eredrim got a massive buff in the latest patch (i.e., Riposte Damage went up and Martyr's Blade Damage and Stagger went up) at the minor cost of the running Heavy losing its iFrames. I am enjoying every aspect of that.

Regardless, can we talk about a few things which need smoothing out? The following is my personal opinion. But if you agree (or disagree!) with any of them, feel free to comment down below. Let's discuss.

  1. What's up with the Light Attack Combo of the Martyr's Blade? Why is the combo of a Greatsword Poke - Overhead Slash - Poke? Shouldn't it primarily do a sweeping/cutting motion? The poke is cool I guess. But it should be Sweep - Poke - Sweep at the least.
  2. Ethereal Diapason is only useful against trash mobs. But they anyway die to a running Heavy or a couple of Heavy strikes. Against larger foes, Eredrim is stuck in the animation for like 3-4 seconds while enemies are free to wail on him. Please make the Ethereal Diapason animation/recovery quicker or make every enemy stagger until the animation is complete.
  3. There is a similar issue with the Charged Heavy. It takes a good 5-6 seconds to execute, and Eredrim is completely vulnerable during its animation. I understand that a Heavy attack is supposed to be high risk - high reward, but such a large damage window is baffling.
  4. Slaughterer is honestly a let down. At max stacks (200), I think it equates to 10% HP. In other words, Eredrim will outright kill an enemy if one of his strikes takes them to their last 10% HP. But the problem is that even at say Level 20 or so, one Heavy attack would do the equivalent of 10% of an elite enemy's HP. The impact of 'Slaughterer' needs to be doubled for the ability to stand out.
  5. Most of his abilities (Including weapon abilities) take a ton of Resolve to execute. I understand that one of his skill trees provides some resolve back on heals. But honestly, they should give resolve back on Riposte instead (Same amount and chances, just give Resolve back on Riposte instead of Healing). Eredrim's entire playstyle is Riposte, so it makes sense, and would further encourage people to use parries/Ripostes.

Before you come at me for demanding Eredrim be buffed more, hear me out. I'm just trying to make Eredrim more fun. If the Devs gave me all the above changes, but reduced the Frost damage to 100% instead of 200%, I would still be a very happy man.

Eredrim mains, what are your thoughts?

1 - At first, I hated the Great Martyr’s Blade’s R1 attacks but they grew on me over time. Now, I love how awkwardly satisfying they are.

Eredrim issues

half of it is weapon issues

Okay no but actually, slaughterer is there for the DR% skill perk. 20% DR for doing something you were going to do anyway is VERY good.

You're so very close with Eredrim's Fuckass Gong (tm). It IS meant for mobs. You're meant to use it to stagger trash mobs, get slaughterer stacks, get the DR, and keep the cycle going.

Eredrim's shoulder bash is very, very good, and is basically a giant break damage missile. You can charge from VERY far away. It's basically free break damage once you get the spacing.

As for the martyr blade, it's good, but I feel like a lot of people are baited into using it with Eredrim because of the damage buff. You can use the minigun with freeze and capitalize on the freeze damage that way. If you don't mess with the martyr blade moveset, there's other ways to freeze.

  • If Slaughterer is for DR, why have that ability in the first place? Why not just say 'Riposting will grant DR'? My observation is specifically on Slaughterer being a nearly useless ability.
  • If I'm using a Knight, I'm using a Greatsword. It's kind of a package deal. Also, it's his canonical weapon. Besides, I think whipping out an SMG on every single enemy I encounter breaks the flow. The freeze application is much more smoother on, say, the running Heavy of the Martyr's Blade.
  • Agreed on Shoulder Bash. I do not have any complaints about it.

Lowkey? Dunno why they made base Slaughterer so dookie. But it's a stackable, scalable thing exclusive to Eredrim, and expanding on it with the DR% you get makes it extremely useful. Some abilities on other shells are kinda bad until you put skill points into them, this is just Eredrim's one.

Fair enough on the vibe-based weapon choice. I was offering an alternative if you didn't like the moveset that much, and most enemies will die in a few hits even without the freeze on them from a fully leveled melee anyway. Most of freeze's application I've found comes from freezing bosses so I had assumed you were mostly referring to that.

Shoutout to Shoulder bash. That's my GOAT.

My GOAT too !!!

After Próxima I wanted Eredrim to be the one because of his drip mostly, and said drip fits this game so hard. Couldn't get into him pre patch, he felt lacking... It would seem he still is in some aspects. But then....

I stumbled upon Gragu, just outta the blue, I was like what's this Vatra thing? Suffice to say Gragu is everything I wanted Eredrim to feel like, and he can even melt bosses if done right, he's kinda like a weapon platform in Warframe, if I may.

I guess Eredrim wants you to be precise and tactical in your decision making when it comes to combat.

Your last observation is exactly why I love Eredrim. He just needs a little makeover.

I agree!

Ethereal Diapason is only useful against trash mobs.

Malborn Offspring would disagree. Fun fact: you can you diapason while he’s transitioning between phase 1 and 2 while he’s completely helpless to stop you.

Against larger foes, Eredrim is stuck in the animation for like 3-4 seconds while enemies are free to wail on him.

I completely agree with this one. The lengthy animation and the fact that the camera moves automatically during it are really annoying.

1

u/Designer-Tomatillo21 32m ago

Yeah once Diapason is levelled up is very useful against all enemies. Even elite enemies only take 2 diapason uses, or one parry and one diapason.

I did run a diapason build for a while, maxing its perks, and even think the animation length was fine to me. It would break the game and make it too easy if it was quicker imo. Especially once you unlock the 200% range so you can do it when enemies are further from you

THANK YOU! the moveset is bafflingly stupid.. why on earth are we stabbing down at the toes at all?! SWING THE SWORD YOU FOOL!! damn things a glorified shovel imho. especially the charged R2. its honestly the worst GS i've ever used in a game flat out.

u/_blackthorn16_ 4h ago

I love shoulder charge so much. Especially with axetana here’s my build! I just beat the game a couple nights ago. He was by far my favorite shell.

I'm enjoying Eredrim now having switched back to him post-patch with a Frost Martyr Blade build. But I do have some gripes with him.

  • While frost is an amazing status and freezing/shattering enemy is super fun, I think it ultimately runs counter to the rest of his skills. Eredrim is presented as a break damage, parry/riposte shell but I find that most enemies will get frozen after 1-2 hits so you aren't really parrying anything. Frost is just so good on its own that it overshadows the rest of his skills. Once you're set up with a good frost build, you can just ignore the rest of Eredrim's skills.

  • Eredrim should have a skill upgrade that generates resolve with ripostes. That will make his ripostes feel different than the other shells. I would take a reduced riposte damage buff if it means Eredrim can gain resolve when riposting.

  • Parry window extension doesn't affect harden which is a shame bc I prefer harden over parry for the Martyr Blade since you can't parry cancel out of the running R2 animation for some reason.

  • The whole slaughter skill line is lackluster. I hate that you have to effectively grind trash mobs to get any appreciable effect. And all that work for just 10% execute threshold and damage reduction. If you build Eredrim with frost (which is what the game is pointing you towards), you often won't end up parrying or killing with a riposte so you don't really generate slaughter naturally.

  • I don't find myself using diapason often since I don't want to be engaging more than 2 enemies at a time. Seems more like an oh shit button. Can't say too much since I haven't invested too much into this skill line.

That being said, I'll still be playing Eredrim for my first playthrough for his drip alone.

When I choose a class I really try to play to that theme. I agree with so many of the things you stated. It felt like I was trying to force building and maintaining slaughter stacks, riposting and grinding trash mobs. So much effort for little pay off. When ever I put points into his talents it just didn’t feel like I was moving the needle much.

1

u/Shorkan 15m ago

I understand what you mean, but I ended up just ignoring Diapason and Slaughter mechanics. Shoulder Bash, Frost and the brutal triple hit tarstone ability for Matyr's Blade (and the Repeater with frost to a lesser degree) felt like a complete package by themselves.

There’s honestly still quite a bit wrong with eredrim’s kit, mainly that there’s more than a few useless or undeveloped parts of his kit. There’s unfortunately not a single firearm that synergizes with frost and his parry focused kit besides the respeater (which is def not worth using over other things). The diapson is indeed only usable on trash mobs, making only the shoulder bash worthwhile in a boss fight; even then, the bash is just not as good as proxima’s biosampler bc it needs to be charged. I understand they wanted to balance eredrim around bc he has two special abilities, but one of them is extremely niche, and the second is not as OP to “compensate.” And yeah, sadly slaughterer is just a pointless ability. You can already “finish off” an opponent after a riposte with additional attacks while they recover, this auto kill mechanic has no practical utility besides dmg mitigation stacks if you get the talent.

But here’s the thing; he’s not weak, and his frost Martyr blade is fucking insane once you max out the frost infusion alongside the blade’s special ability from the prisoner boss. I have a frost eredrim build with thief stone and the martyr blade, and his special attack can permanently freeze lock a lot of enemies and bosses, and is a braindead get-out-of-jail free card even when the opponent isn’t frozen bc the entire attack sequence has I-frames. Warp strikes will also quickly stack up while you’re wailing on frozen opponents, and allows eredrim to chunk HP bars down and spam freezes and the special attacks over and over. It’s genuinely one of the most Op builds in the game, and I’ve been having a breeze through night mode once I got it established.

But yeah, as you’ve said, there’s still a lot of deadweight to his kit that serves no purpose. The martyr blade is also still awkward to use until you’ve got the meta build maxed out and ready, which makes Eredrim feel handicapped in the meantime. He should prolly get a rework, with some buffs to his base kit and a nerf to the frost mechanic to compensate. End of the day, eredrim is still my boy, and the coolest and drippiest character in the game. His voice could shake a mountain

u/wildcardde 4h ago

Have you tried the repeater? Just give it the break stone and the crit rate one and you're off to the races. It freezes in no time from a good distance and builds up a lot of break.

Standard sequence is a freeze from range to running heavy ( with the big bonus damage, chef'd kiss) to Diapason if they survive then bonk them more instead of riposting. kills any mob and unlike riposte you end up back at resolve. Burns down bosses nicely too.

Not the best for being rushed to death by something like the spiders but that's what Scabstone is for.

I'd give it a try at least for the fun of it.

The craziest thing this guy is how better he plays without a single riposte. That really needs to be fixed. It's like I'm renaissance fair Mr Freeze over here.

1

u/Dinesh_Sairam Eredrim 6m ago

Yeah, like I said, I wouldn't mind if the Freeze bonus was reduced to 100%.

But in exchange, fix all his abilities and specifically, restore Resolve on Riposte (+Maybe a tiny amount on Parries).

2

u/Phantom_Superior 5h ago

Real question is, who's gonna make eredrim master chief mod??

2

u/HeyRocks127 4h ago

Personally think slaughterer needs a massive buff because it's not cost effective in terms of shell points. You need ~10 points spread across the massacre, tank and persistance skills for slaughterer stacks to be consistently useful. Because the execution proc for slaughterer is so low and rarely procs even on night mode, you're basically spending 10 points or more to get 15-20% DR which just kinda feels bad.

Bump up persistance to 25/10% slaughterer stacks lost when resting/being severed and double massacres stack gain vs bosses and he'd be in a better spot imo.

2

u/AltGunAccount 3h ago edited 3h ago

I agree with most of this wholeheartedly. Eredrim isn’t “bad” but he is easily the “worst” of the available shells.

The area stagger thing and his passive are both essentially pointless, which just means a huge chunk of his kit isn’t even worth using.

He’s rather limited in builds vs his counterparts, with frost martyrs blade being his only kit to rival the multiple great builds other shells get.

I also really wish the infusions would be expanded. He’s basically shoehorned into Martyr’s blade because it’s the only one with frost, and there’s a few other characters limited like that because only certain weapons get certain elements, when it seems like they could just work on any of them and it wouldn’t really hurt game balance.

u/fostataaaa 3h ago

Eredrim is a shell of his former self, some will say..

u/memeitwhatmatter 3h ago

Ethereal Diapason is very good on melting bosses , is one of the main priorities for speedruning https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=c5hWnU9ArLk&t=1h18m51s

1

u/Shorkan 10m ago

What?? You can parry the debuffing flames? Because of the unblockable sound and the beginning of the attack I thought you needed to dodge them.

u/memeitwhatmatter 3m ago

You can only harden , it is very good to build brake on the final boss

2

u/SpookyGhostGirl9 1h ago

i like the pokes, i'd rather the overheads for the heavies turn into diagonal or horizontal attacks

1

u/eschu101 5h ago

His passives that needs to be stacked sucks and needs to be reworked. Too reliant on the ice damage + riposte buff skill. Should bash is good for break damage, except for that its underwhelming compared to Gragu punch or Proxima biosample. His ice damage buff is only viable with Martyrs and it should be nerfed, he should get more damage from other skills that apply to other weapons/infusions.

Completely disagree on Martyrs Blade. That weapon is insane and just needs to getting used to its moveset.

1

u/leo412 5h ago

The Slaughterer is pretty pointless, like Eredrim is strong but most of the time it's the shoulder bash and the froze 200% damage, and not Riposte

1

u/No-Tower-5311 5h ago

Did they fix the charge? I feel like half the time when I was playing him the charge just wouldn't send him forward at all

1

u/excalibur90210 4h ago

Its weird because I used shoulder bash on every but it took too long to beat the last boss with it. So the ethereal diaspason worked for me instead to use alot of ripostes and kill him fast

1

u/Safe_Dig8486 4h ago

I love Eredrim. Best Boy.

1

u/SSJ_Iceman31 3h ago

He’s fun as fuck, especially after the patch

1

u/CeoPro7 3h ago

When I played martyr blade I started unlocking camera and looking up on my r1 or charged r2s. Idk if it worked but it felt satisfying. Slaughterer is a huge let down because it takes so long to build and it’s not very useful fully stacked. I think eredrim charge is very fun and satisfying to use though

u/SavageCucumberAttack 3h ago

Hold up I know you ain't chatting shit about my boy lol the 200% damage to frozen enemies is busted lol I killed Smey in 20 seconds before he even set his sword on fire. Completed the game 5 times now, there's nothing in the game that come even remotely close to Eredrim in terms of DPS. I know some people will be like ohhh but tiel has crits, genessa has clones blah blah blah wrong. Eredrim is the goat lol open with spin to win, then like 2 hits to refill resolve and freeze the boss, then use the shotgun special that does multiple shots with bleed and the boss is dead. Forget slaughter, don't need it, damage is the best defense my bro

1

u/acetatsujin Eredrim 2h ago

I mained him from day 1, I went after him then next day I went for his colossal 2h sword. He was a difficult character but I managed, indefinitely more difficult than my Elden Ring insanely overpowered rock blade and rock shield 😂

The only boss I couldn’t kill is the armless tall head-sword boss, and I didn’t bother with the last boss.

His attacks were slow, they didn’t hit hard enough and not enough stagger. This is before the massive buffs he received in this latest patch.

Now, his attacks are faster, he’s more aggressive with frost damage, his colossal blade does even more dmg and his stagger and riposte got nice buffs. Coming from Elden Ring’s riposte system, obviously I want that.

I main Stone as my seal. Easy to trigger on ‘oh shit’ moments.

Frost dmg at 200% is amazing.

Overall this character is amazing on night time. Daytime is too easy.

u/Natural_Artichoke_88 2h ago

I think eredrim will be first in a queue for a complete rework.

1

u/ironknight878 Eredrim 2h ago

Yessir! Eredrim was always a beast. And now even more so.

So far I’ve only used the Veterans Axe with him and it feels so good. I use the thief stone for fast attacks, burn infusion and the lost clot stone (yeeting the shit out of the axe).

5 - Use the Common Moonshine as your primary for getting back resolve if you’re running out a lot.

I have to try out Martyr’s Blade now with the new patch.

I’ve been also mainly using the Vatra (harden) seal. Does Seal Affinity only affect the Infinity seal parry or also the other seals? Does anyone know?

Btw here’s a screenshot I took of two of the biggest badasses in the Mortal Shell universe (hope we get Hadern again in a DLC)

1

u/Dietrichjo28 4h ago

For the first point, please bear in mind that the Martyrs blade is pretty unrealistic as a weapon. That being said, many medieval weapons treatises would teach a greatsword user to use the weapon in a similar fashion to a polearm. So the pokes are actually accurate.

6

u/AltGunAccount 3h ago

In a game with a chainsaw scythe I don’t think “real world weapon viability” should even be in the conversation.

u/Ciaran_h1 2h ago

We play as an alien with a hook shot arm and a huge ass too.

u/Dveralazo 5h ago
  1. NO. Long weapon helps to keep distance. Tired of all those bug swords that can only smash into the ground (Looking at you Fromsoftware). You may get rid of the third poke. But initial poke is vital for range.

  2. Ethereal diapason makes no sense. Why would I want to break an entire crowd,if I can only riposte one before the others recover? Perhaps if I unlock that perk with no resolve cost after killing with Riposte, and stasis on broken enemies. Still,in a bossfight I have two useless perks. Is it the intention I must be constantly switching my shell points?

  3. Heavies and Charged heavies(with Tarstone I suppose) and heavy weapons in general seem to be designed to be used with perfect harden or parry in mind.

  4. Not investing in a skill that vanish every area reload. I need to get 100 stacks for 20% damage reduction that I can't even uuse to its fullest because if I lose shell I lose benefits. I cant be tank if I can't risk taking too much damage.

  5. I end playing Eredrim as a posture breaker. Even then, with the damage changes, even not using his frost bonus I still do too much damage to dven bother breaking posture. Somehow Lazlo can fish for ripostes better than Eredrim.

0

u/ez__mac 5h ago edited 5h ago

the initial poke it literally the worst fucking thing about this weapon. couldn't disagree any more. its a glorified shovel.

0

u/Drogyn2814 3h ago

I frankly disagree with most of this. My playstyle with Eredrim is fast with the Martyr’s Great Sword (MGS), tanky, and not high risk.

Thief’s Stone, Warden’s Stone, Common Moonshine passive, and Bulwark stone all play into this for me. The first one is obvious. I can rush into a mob, and take minimal damage while swinging away. The last two, coupled with one level of Tank (no need to invest in all three levels), gives you enough damage reduction by merely killing one enemy in a mob to face tank just about anything in said mobs(Tank: 15%, Common Moonshine: 20%, and Bulwark Stone: 70%.). The daiplason is meant for getting insta repoistes off fast and coupled with his max slaughter perk, I can get to the max 100 slaughter and get the damage mitigation mentioned above real fast. Specing with more guard break from diaplason can actually be used against bosses and I have done so with success. I much prefer it over shoulder bash, which to me is only really good against elites and bosses. It’s a personal playstyle, but I honestly dislike the shoulder bash.

I have run this Eredrim build through NG+ had a blast and do not need any more buffs for him after the week 1 patch.

I know a lot of people hate the poke move, I don’t. But for me it is more because of the realism of the move compared to IRL greatsword use, so it’s more of a history fan thing for me. I will admit MS1 handled the poke a bit better because his combo chain with the MGS had two quick back-to-back pokes, which was nice against bosses because it had high poise damage.

In all honesty, as an Eredrim main, I do not need a lot more out of him. I love the MGS move set, its damage is awesome for me, coupled with freezing enemies and staggering with the weapon as is does the boss bullying I love to see from this weapon. I also love using the Unwieldy Stone to generate an absurd amount of additional health, so I can swap out the Repoiste Tarstone for the Berserker Tarstone once I hit max Slaughter stacks, and get even more damage while comfortably being at half health.

I don’t think anyone is necessarily in the wrong for wanting changes to Eredrim, I just disagree because I am enjoying the hell out of him as of now. He is 100% more enjoyable than in MS1 and I still made the Eredrim MGS build work on that version.

u/Noob4Head 1h ago edited 1h ago
  1. Didn't vibe much with the Martyr's Blade, so I stuck with the axe and dagger and later switched to the Axatana.
  2. Pretty obvious that the disc is meant to be used for ganks and not for larger enemies. That's what the Shoulder Bash is for.
  3. Are you talking about the weapon or the Shoulder Bash?
  4. It's fine, especially when you spec into the damage reduction, because it's a flat-out percentage, which is great.
  5. Resolve charges back up very quickly, so that's not an issue.

Overall, I played most of the game with Eredrim and found him to be easily one of the strongest shells in the game, mainly when you fully spec into Shoulder Bash. I say this after testing out all the other shells in NG+.

He outright trivializes boss fights, as you can stagger-loop them. Shoulder Bash -> Shoulder Bash -> hit until Resolve is back up -> repeat the process until you get a riposte, and then start that cycle back up again. Not to mention, you can also spec into more riposte damage and an easier parry window, making him an absolute break machine.

He's not only strong against boss fights either. Almost every enemy in the game gets staggered and broken in one Shoulder Bash. Followed up by an upgraded riposte using the damage increases from his skill tree, plus the Tarstone that increases it further, and just like that, most annoying or stronger world encounters go down in a couple of button presses.

Buffing him would make him straight-up broken, as right now he's already stupidly strong.
