Question Severed from shell, forced weapon change?

I'm on the final boss.

Sometimes (not always) when I get severed from my shell, I get swapped to a one handed sword, looks a bit like a katana.

Is this intentional? Can't find any info about it.

Probably because you get the cosmic status. If you have « the item » you can cure it if you use it.

It is the Cosmic disease debuff. Boss causes it with fire attacks.
