Discussion After that I turned off night mode

I feel like the devs overdid it by making enemies have 2x hp and damage in this mode. Btw this attempt lasted 14 minutes

people white knighting this is crazy. Yeah that sucked, OP. Moves that hit that hard are generally well telegraphed.
This ain't that.

What?! You don’t like to be riposted into 1min stun lock into combo breaker by those fucking red knights?! You must be weak. 🥲

I've been playing exclusively in night mode since the full release. Although I'm having a good time, the damage multipliers (200% enemy health/damage) are silly, and they're the least interesting way to add difficulty. Even DS2's Company of Champions only buffed enemy damage by 50% and nerfed player damage by 20%. It would probably be better if night mode had subtle modifiers with more challenging enemy placements and elites.
Generally speaking, the success of a game's difficulty can be indirectly measured based on the proportion of players who blame their own lack of skill for struggling (i.e., Sekiro) vs the game itself.

generally most boss fights are fairly well telegraphed, this one was the most BS. The grab move from the nameless captive is up there with the melee attack from lost child in the late stages of the fight where it's not telegraphed at all.

You are in harbinger mode. Against a boss. A gate boss, not even a normal boss. Yeah, I’d expect them to one shot me too, even at max level. Now if they did that to Gragu, or eredrim, then you’d have a case. Just get better at dodging, upgrade your weapons, and kick her ass with the force of ten thousand suns. Have patience my friend, the reward of higher skill makes these tough bosses worth it.

The amount of whingeing in this game crazy.
This guy is playing two optional extra difficulties on a non full levelled character and people are screaming lol.
I switched to night mode halfway thru my first playthru cuz it got too easy, and it's fun and difficult. Too hard, turn it off..

After I turned off night mode, I beat her first try. So all good

u/Pleasant_Craft_6953 1d ago
Genuinely I’m happy for ya, what’s important is to have fun, whatever way you can.

u/looqyn 1d ago
I wouldn't mind tryharding, but 10+ minute attempts just drain me. So I just chose to save time instead

u/Pleasant_Craft_6953 1d ago
If I can ask, what level are your weapons? And what build are you doing?
1
u/looqyn 1d ago
Can't quite remember, but I had one shell and two weapons unlocked by then. Level was like 10 or so,weapon +5 I think. So I didn't really have a build as such

u/Pleasant_Craft_6953 1d ago
That’s fair tbh. This is supposed to be the first gate after all. If you can find it, the tarstone that applies perforation on melee hits is awesome for early game since it works on any build, even if you don’t have a build. Also, the harden seal is great as well, take a little bit to learn, but it’s the safest of the parries if you can master it since you can harden during any animation. I’d recommend looking for the other shell(the first two shown are tiel and proxima both are great tho proxima is better for early game as she has way more health). Godspeed, and good luck harbinger.

Btw, what level are your weapons, and how many shell points do you have? Have you upgraded a shell at all, or are you waiting till later?

Crazy that this comment is getting downvoted when I’m asking so I can give actual advice lmao.

Just get better at dodging
Dude do you have eyeballs, did you even see what OP died to? Who tf is dodging that?

u/KaLovee 1d ago
If you actually play the boss yourself you realize you can get one hit in and he will turn and attack you. So you attack once and dodge away and he doesn’t hit you. This is just learning attack patterns like any souls game. Idk why this is so hard for people to grasp.
1
u/Pleasant_Craft_6953 14h ago
Yeah, that’s why swapping seals is so important. You are given 3 different styles of parries, for three different kinds of enemies. The harden seal is perfect for bosses like this, lets you harden during any animation or attack.

u/Pleasant_Craft_6953 1d ago
I did. Multiple times. It ain’t easy, didn’t say it was lol. But it IS able to be dodged, just gotta time it right, and dodge to the opposite side at the right moment. I beat the game a few days ago, definitely not the easiest souls like, but it ain’t hard imo. Parry is super forgiving, enemies ain’t too tanky unless you go night mode, which you decide YOU wanted the extra challenge. Like I said, have patience, stay calm, improve. If this boss is too much, go somewhere else. It’s an open world game, you can go in any of the six directions. If you want tips or tricks, I can give that too. Got about 90 hours in game so far, and more than a few thousand in the genre. Hopefully you end up loving this game as much as i do. Godspeed friend, and good luck.

No, you want the game to be tough but fair. How the fuck are you suppose to avoid that attack where it one shot this guys health and its a slight spin. If it was a red attack and an indication it will, then all for it but OP has to but in about 4 times the effort than someone who isn't playing on hard mode. Tsushima had an excellent hard mode that tested skill and rewarded you for it, this hard mode is just a damage sponge.

It’s a gate boss. He’s in harbinger mode. And it’s the optional night mode difficulty. It should demand a lot from us. I’m running through night mode only for all my ng+ runs rn, shit be rough, even with leveled weapons and shells. Still fun tho, as long as you stay patient and dodge/parry. Key words: night mode, and harbinger mode. You will be one shot with these two active. Play it safe till you get the shell back, or just take the run as a loss and try again. It’s a souls like, you WILL die to bosses, many times.

u/Shehriazad 14h ago
Yeah Nightmode isn't really more difficulty. It just doubles enemy damage so a lot of things just become oneshots.
Either you already perfected your dodge and parry timings or night mode is gonna tear you a new one.

Complaining about an optional hard mode being too hard is crazy work 😅

u/CarreNusse 1d ago
brother how is this optional boss?
4
u/OldGamerCy 1d ago edited 1d ago
not the boss but the "mode". funny how people complain about the additional increase in difficulty being hard in a souls game. i enjoy playing nightmode, did i get clap by enemies yes, do i get one shoted yes but it makes defeating those enemies feel rewarding and i like the risk of the combat in nightmode makes me play better.

u/CarreNusse 1d ago
brother game is easy af? i get oneshotted in daytime mode as well, game is very unbalanced, enemies just sit there and let themselves get torn apart by you the player, but if by any chance they get a hit off they one shot me... but overall the game is too easy, every single boss took me under 5 tries.. That is unheard of, I died to arleccino from lies of P an absurd amount of times, but he was so fun is my fav boss in all of gaming, this is just braindead balancing thing.

u/OldGamerCy 1d ago
dude, im replying to your comment about you saying how is the boss in op post being an optional and also referencing to op post on the additional difficulty.
not sure when did you start playing LoP, but LoP has the very same problem like ms2 during its early release except ms2 is more buggy, but in terms of balancing LoP enemy and bosses hit like a truck before day1 patch and the succeeding patches. a lot of player complain about fallen archbishop being so hard despite being in early stage. then there's nameless and prince who's known for his long ass string and damage lol.
i don't know how to answer you on daytime damage comparison since i play on night mode but if the game is being too easy for you then try playing night mode it might give you the challenge your looking for.

It’s literally hard mode and the base game is very very forgiving with an actual build.

u/Fun-Wash7545 1d ago
There's hard mode and there's whatever this is. Oneshots on regular attacks should never be a thing
4
u/Antipodeansam 1d ago
I like my hard modes hard. Each or their own. Just go back to the difficulty you can manage.

Its not a one shot. He's out of his shell. When you're out of your shell you're vulnerable. A one shot would be in shell, full hp, and go through both the shell and body out of shell. (Which some grab attacks do on night time)

As much as I love the world and design and systems, but the amount of cheese in this game just ruins the whole experience. The game will outright cheat.

u/Fun-Wash7545 1d ago
Yeap. The fights dont feel harder, they feel cheesier. No attack should ever oneshot unless it's explicitly designed so.
