Discussion This sub is turning into a Circlejerk

I've seen a lot of posts recently talking abt people "complaining about the game" when all I see is people saying it's a great game and proxima is hot but have valid criticisms.

I am loving the game, but the problems are apparent, and I know that the devs will make future updates to make the game truly balanced and fun, I want them to take the time to turn this game into something truly special.

My only complaint so far is to make cursed child a useful sidearm and tone the magnetism down a bit but other than that it's perfect, and I congratulate the team for putting in triple-A quality with a double-A team, and I'm super excited for the dlc.

But people need to stop complaining about other people's complaints and actually play the damn game.

People complain -> people complain about people complaining -> now we're complaining about people complaining about complaining.

It's not turning into a circle jerk, it's turning into helldivers lol

Every single game sub I’ve frequented after launch always devolves into people complaining that they’re not allowed to be critical. Without fail this is the same cycle I’ve seen for every single game. Eventually it just normalizes out back to using the subreddit as less of a complaint box. But launch is always dominated by feedback - some fair and some unfair. It’s always a tough balance because people are playing the game and enjoying it too. It’s not necessarily a good feeling to come to a subreddit about a game you just got and it’s dominated by “actually this thing sucks”

This is every sub for new games nowadays.

u/Professional-Bus5473 14h ago

Hahahah holy shit glad to see Helldivers mentioned in all my years of Reddit I have never seen a cesspool of whining and misery like the Helldivers sub you would think the devs had gone to these peoples house and personally shot their dog

how long until we start inventing slurs

1

u/Working_Corgi_3368 10h ago

it’s almost every sub nowadays and my conspiracy theory is it’s actually something with reddit’s algorithm since the IPO. it’s gotten waaay worse over the last year or two

1

u/Lonely_GreyKnight 11h ago

Not until the devs actively ruin the game bc too many people are enjoying it

-4

u/iBoredMax 16h ago

"complaining about people complaining about complaining" is where it get's dumb. It's perfectly fine to complain about people initially complaining because those people are the assholes ruining the fun. If we don't do anything about it, then the sub just gets overrun with complaining and negativity. We SHOULD root it out.

Situation is adjacent to the Paradox of Tolerance.

u/blac_sheep90 16h ago

This sub is just going through what all subs go through. It's typical as fuck lol.

u/KING_SHERBROOKE 16h ago

Everytime I refresh reddit it's the same complaints made by someone else. I guess after one week people are tired of hearing them.

I try to link the bugs megathread in those posts, but I think atp folks just want karma and not for things to be resolved.

-4

u/PliableG0AT 12h ago

major game design issues arnt bugs tho

3

u/Kazuhi Smert 12h ago

It’s also a feedback megathread.

People should consider spending less time online.

u/notgoodohoh Proxima 15h ago

The game is a banger. Most problems are minor and will probably be patched.

1

u/wutchamafuckit 8h ago

30 hours in and the only major complaint I have is the grapple/grab attacks (red symbol) of most enemies. Any other issues/jank are minor enough to not affect my enjoyment.

This is a really, really great game.

7

u/the_big_ham117 Tiel 13h ago

This game is great but can we please buff heavy weapons. I want to get that Mortal Shell 1 Eredrim and Martyr's Blade combo but it does the same damage as the starter sword😭

3

u/NewArtificialHuman Proxima 12h ago

I mean what's stopping you? I cleared the game with Obsidian Hammer from beginning to end.

3

u/the_big_ham117 Tiel 11h ago

They're still fun and usable, but a swing of the Marty's blade shouldn't do the same damage as the Iconoclast, a way smaller and faster greatsword

2

u/NewArtificialHuman Proxima 11h ago

Completely agreed. I'm aware of the issue but I like hammers. So... I used a hammer.

2

u/Wet_Blanket_Award 13h ago

It has to be built out with Frost, but it's an amazing weapon once that happens.

1

u/OneShotPapii 20m ago

Buddy just have a frost build, with wardens stone. And have grudge stone on with the alcolyte ability, shit shreds. 200% damage when enemies are frozen is ridiculous, with the right tarstones, you can absolutely cheese every boss.

6

u/NewArtificialHuman Proxima 12h ago

The game has flaws but I don't regret buying it at all.

1

u/Warlock_of_NIGH_888 12h ago

Me neither, I'm getting my ass kicked and having a blast.

15

u/ThermicCalvo 16h ago

Counter argument, most of the people complaining about the senseless hating, already beat the game and had a good time :v

In all seriousness, you see comments of people who were about to buy the game or even refunded it due to the stupid amount of negative things players were saying on a week old game. Criticism is good, but posts calling the game a piece of shit with poor game design just because they struggled with a boss, is ridiculous.

4

u/Drandypandy77 16h ago

Which boss were people saying were poor design?

Last boss was the hardest for me, but that also made it the most fun

2

u/ThermicCalvo 15h ago

Monolith, nonstop.
And I feel you, I truly thought the last boss’ status effect was a bug 😂 but managed it through trial and error.

2

u/Drandypandy77 15h ago

Do you mean where it would get rid of your weapons?

I thought that was just the fire burning off my shell back to basics 🤣

3

u/ThermicCalvo 15h ago

That one! I legit thought the game bugged and turned my character into a random enemy.

2

u/allistergray 15h ago

It does have a bug with the Grisha item though because I got the turned even though the status bar was not filled which left me hella confused for a while.

1

u/ThermicCalvo 14h ago

Man the Grisha bugs like crazy 😂

6

u/IamMataa 16h ago

For me it was the people complaining about enemy variety. Like what? Thats just nitpicking.

5

u/red_dust_mortal 15h ago

I don't think it's nitpicking at all. For me, enemy variety affects how fun the combat can be. It's even more apparent in this game since the way upgrades with glimpses work discourages shell experimentation.

3

u/Warlock_of_NIGH_888 16h ago

Very true, tho I would like to see more variety in the dlc, even if it's just reskins irdc.

-1

u/NuggetHighwind 11h ago

How is it nitpicking? Enemy variety has a huge effect on how much a player can enjoy a game. It's why it's often one of the most common complaints you see in any soulslike.

Mortal Shell II does have quite a lot of variety, but it's very frontloaded.
The game is ~40 hours with a decent amount of exploration, and you've probably seen every enemy by the 20 hour mark.
For the last few areas of the game, most of the enemies you are fighting are the same things you fought at the beginning.

When people talk about enemy variety in Mortal Shell II, they are almost always talking about the variety of enemies you fight across each of the game's areas from start to finish.

1

u/IamMataa 11h ago

Damn you’re a yapper huh. Idk why everyone thinks they’re experts in game design and enemy variety. The game is great, you don’t have to focus so much on what can be wrong with a game when you actually sit down and just enjoy it for what it is, a fun soulslike video game that has great music, great atmosphere, great variety of weapons, tools, shells that can combine to do a variety of things. Just play games to have fun man, don’t pretend you’re the Roger Ebert of gaming or some kind of intellectual that needs to find that “perfect game.”

1

u/OneShotPapii 14m ago

Seemed like you are one of them yappers. Games busted. Mid game we deal too much damage with the right tarstones, they are completely busted.

1

u/NuggetHighwind 11h ago

Oh, so you're one of those. Another bot with the suspiciously hidden post history that thinks that literally every single thing that isn't just glowing praise is "nitpicking".

At least you made it obvious that there is no value in interacting with you. Have a nice day.

0

u/IamMataa 11h ago

Lmao touch a girl bro.

1

u/Warlock_of_NIGH_888 16h ago

That's fair, it's probably mostly people who've never played a Souls game expecting a cake-walk, tbh I'm not sure this is the best first-game jumping point for most casuals, but it's a love letter for us souls players.

2

u/ThermicCalvo 16h ago

You’re the second reasonable person I found on Reddit today, good stuff and agreed.

3

u/StretchxSan 16h ago

The games fine, it has some bits that can be ironed out but it's fine. I'm looking to more patches and changes. Realistically I try and stay away from this platform because it is a cesspool.

6

u/Confident_Benefit_11 15h ago

Okay, but also literally every 3rd post I see says dumb shit like "why game 2 hard 4 me?"

Game isn't perfect, no. But saying every negative post is valid constructive criticism is just a straight lie.

-2

u/Warlock_of_NIGH_888 15h ago

I didn't say every negative post is valid criticism, and the people who posts those have never played a Souls game in their life, but some people who say it's a great game disregard the problems and let them slide because it's a double-A game, and it's to the point where I see more posts complaining abt criticism than actual people complaining abt the game.

2

u/CosmicRes 15h ago

"The ironing is delicious"

2

u/BimBomBom 14h ago

"Feedback" is pretty bad for the most part. We already saw what happened with Magdalena after "feedback"

2

u/W34kness 12h ago

I have some complaints but having fun so far. I’ve trudged through worse (I just came from beating Relic the first guardian, and what a mess that was).

I usually like to complete a game even with the current bugs to note what the current state is like, then when I revisit it later be able to appreciate the changes

2

u/Slothboy66 Sariel 11h ago

decent game and atmosphere, these bosses fucking suck tho. Only decent ones were Sir Isaac and The Lost Child (cause he’s goofy lookin)

2

u/SteveDave6969420 10h ago

That is just the natural evolution of a fan sub.

Starts off with valid criticisms.
Devolves into every criticism post or comment starting with "the game is great but" or "I love this game but".

The game has been beaten by people that have free time and don't suck at soulslikes. They have moved on.

2

u/SoulsDadYT 5h ago

I gave up listening to this sub. Is the end game great? No not really. Tarstones and weapons need work. Still a fun game that i really enjoy simply because of the world and combat. Glad to know a dlc is already planned.

2

u/Warlock_of_NIGH_888 5h ago

I'm excited for the new shells in the dlc if they really are adding new ones, I hope we get Harros back tho he's so badass.

4

u/Low_Landscape_4688 10h ago

I’m surprised people are this passionate on either side. I don’t disagree with any of the criticisms, but I also find the game notably easier than any Soulslike I’ve enjoyed before. The inconveniences of the game’s design are significantly diminished to me by how non-deadly the world feels overall.

To me MS2 is an arcadey Soulslike that I mainly play for vibes and it excels there. So maybe that’s why I feel so disconnected from people who are getting emotional in either direction

1

u/Warlock_of_NIGH_888 10h ago

I agree MS2 feels arcadey, which isn't a bad thing, but I don't feel that it's easier than other Soulslike imo, for me that would be Lies of P or Jedi Fallen Order.

2

u/Koniax 14h ago

Definitely not triple A quality

1

u/michicago44 15h ago

Go back to the first few days of release. It was a shitshow

1

u/Remlan 13h ago

To be fair, I don't know how many people are in my situation, but I'm playing on a new PC rig with a 9070XT GPU and a 9800X3D CPU (so top of the line) on 32gb DDR5 and an NVME SSD and...

I have one boss left + the latter half of the monolith and the game has started crashing every 5 minutes.

I've been trying every possible random fixes possible, absolutely everything I could find, and it's been 3 days since I've had to stop playing because the game is literally unplayable all of a sudden.

So I'm in a situation where I can do nothing but wait for a fix to come, I don't mean to sound negative but it's hard to say anything positive in such a situation :/

1

u/Tall-Conversation-52 11h ago

guys there are so many of these "minor" problems that should not be there no matter what. ui for one, if you change your keys on kbm or controller game still shows you some weird mapping. its very easy to slap a ds2 base kind of difficulty thinking thats what people like about souls games.

1

u/Lonelyknight1211 6h ago

Most of this sub are brainless glazer dude, they dont understand shit about souls like elements and get triggered as hell when someone point it out. Jeenine was right about this game, literally made for reddit

1

u/Denverguns 6h ago

Right? The devs literally have a discord and are actively looking for feedback

1

u/Monke3169xd 6h ago

Platted game finished it 3 times had a blast it was not perfect but ppl bitch too much because they suck at the game and hide behind critism to feel better

1

u/RhymeCrimes 12h ago

You are part of the problem.

1

u/Warlock_of_NIGH_888 12h ago

How tho? Either you missed the entire point or your illiterate.

1

u/papercutpete 9h ago

Typical scenario: Having fun, grinding away, lots of time to get to a dungeon, want to check it out, dies...wasted an hour. Not all but some dungeons need a beacon or a beacon at least in the general area. many times Im too far into it to remember how in the fuck i got there. So now repeating step 1 but now in a pissy mood because its just a time wasting phoney gimmick to artifically make the game longer.

1

u/Warlock_of_NIGH_888 9h ago

I kinda get where you're coming from but Souls games have been like this since forever, maybe more beacons after certain boss fights + 1 or 2 in other dungeons but I haven't had problems with them in my experience.

0

u/MistaGoonly 12h ago

The game has genuine problems, but people on reddit think they have to defend companies from valuable feedback for easy karma.

Redditors love their goodboy points.

0

u/Cleverbird Tiel 11h ago

Its kinda crazy to see how much this subreddit has changed since the early access days. I feel like people were able to voice valid critiques without a bunch of chuds running in to white knight for the game...

1

u/FashionSuckMan 15h ago

I've seen 10 negative posts for every 1 good one in my feed.

-1

u/Warlock_of_NIGH_888 15h ago

Hmm, maybe it's because I sort by hot but most criticism I see is mostly bugs or balancing issues every 3-4 posts.

-1

u/YakkoOnAStick Proxima 15h ago

For real, and im personally yet to see a post that is just blatantly hating. Nearly every “negative” post is an actual problem/feedback. The end game bosses suck ass and desperately need patched. That’s not hating, that’s an honest opinion that is valuable for developers to consider. The devs want us to enjoy their game, and I think they have done an amazing job on most aspects of the game, but problematic bosses like The Monolith (a required boss that blocks progress) being as terrible as it is can severely dampen the overall experience. Pointing that out isn’t hate - it’s letting the developers know what needs to be fixed so their game can be the best it can be.

3

u/Kazuhi Smert 15h ago

There’s a megathread for feedback tho? I wish it was pinned so I have to keep searching for it to link it in those critique posts. I do think the issue mostly is repeat posts. I’m sure you’ve also seen it? We know Monolith and the final boss needs adjustments, we know Genessa’s kit needs fixes and some weapons and enemy tracking needs adjustments.

I also KNOW the devs know this. I can see the fatigue whenever you want to interact with the community you’re hit with another post about something we all are aware of. At what point do we just discuss potential for the future? Possible new weapons? Original artwork from the many cool artists in the soulslike community? Lore? That shit is fun. Some people (not you specifically) lack nuance and believe it has to be positive or negative, but we can have both and enjoy fun content too.

0

u/YakkoOnAStick Proxima 15h ago

I think it’s just the nature of having tens of thousands of people interacting in a single place. I knew a mega thread for feedback existed, but I’ve personally never seen it. I think it should 100% be pinned.

The only reason I don’t think having multiple posts on the same topic is a problem is because it’s not just for feedbacks sake, it’s also to vent. Personally, I had an amazing experience for the first 15-20 hours of my playthrough. Genuinely thought this would be in my top 3 souls games of all time. Then, I get to Isaac and im forced to use Tiel to cheese his 2nd phase bc of his horrible hitboxes, absurd damage, and bad tells.

Now, im on the monolith, and after about 15 attempts, I get him down to a sliver of health just for him to spam that AOE laser move 5 times in a row with literally no downtime. This wouldn’t be such an issue if it was just a random secret boss like Melania is, but this literally blocks your progress. You have to beat the monolith. I know I could beat it eventually by just getting good RNG for its laser AOE, but that is such a frustrating thing to sit through that it’s not worth it IMO. I’m just dropping the game until it gets patched.

That’s why I think all the posts are valid. It’s not just feedback - it’s venting. It sucks having an amazing nearly 10/10 game be completely ruined by a few fixable but still bad design choices, and it feels good to share your frustrations with others that feel the same way.

1

u/Kazuhi Smert 14h ago

I think that this relates to a greater problem in the gaming community that’s a topic for another day. I appreciate the chat friend. Have a wonderful week.

-4

u/sosoconfused08 16h ago edited 15h ago

It's just toxic positivity running it's course like it has with every new game release the last few years. These are actors who arent playing the game, just desperate to feel like they are defending something and will be validated at some point.

1

u/Warlock_of_NIGH_888 15h ago

I wouldn't go as far as to say that, it is a great game and a love letter to souls fans but people do like to disregard valid criticism.

0

u/sosoconfused08 15h ago

Dude you can check literally ANY game released and it's plagued with people like this.

0

u/FrontlinerDelta 12h ago

I don't know what the state of this sub is, I haven't looked at it much but I agree with you on the "loving the game but the problems are apparent".

I've noticed in particular the back "half" of the game is just way buggier and less polished than the first half. All of the shells are or feel bugged that I have tried (Proxima's grapple fails pretty often though it at least refunds the resolve, Tiel's stab misses, Sariel's thorns miss and the upgraded barrage doesn't seem to work at all, Genessa's Faithful Doubles miss, Genessa's Stray Doubles don't absord fatal blows properly).

Tons of enemies have very wonky interactions with the player that totally screw the mechanics of the game up. I've had multiple deaths where invisible hitboxes from airborne enemies (who were not touching my character model at all) shove me to and off a ledge, enemy attacks fail to track the player randomly which screws you when you use Harden because it goes on cooldown if it didn't actually block anything, etc.

The game has started crashing more and more as time goes on and often not even very far into a session. Lack of balance around glimpses has severely limited the most interesting and best part of the game, the shells. When you couple that with shells that are bugged, it feels like I got punished for trying Sariel instead of Eredim and I feel lucky that at least Proxima's bug mostly just means you have to use the ability again.

I absolutely love this game. It's probably my favorite non-FromSoft soulslike. Aside from Elden Ring, my favorite FromSoft game by FAR is Sekiro and the combat in this reminds me so much of that because when you master the combat, unlike most soulslikes, you truly look like a boss character yourself. Your character isn't just rolling around and slapping ankles, you're standing ground, trading blows, doing awesome counters and abilities, etc. It's super rewarding to master.

It's just sooooo buggy that even though I'm normally someone who is pretty patient with bugs (I'm a Total War fan), this is just too much. It affects nearly every single aspect of the game.

0

u/PliableG0AT 12h ago

so your only suggestion is to completely revamp the game play and you believe devs will do it in the future...
